What is even the point of multiple 100% playthroughs when you already know where everything is? It was fun to hunt down those horseshoes and graffiti for the first time ever. And stunts. I fucking loved doing all stunts in all GTA games.

Main problem SA has is most of the tasks are kinda boring and the rewards are in no way proportional to the effort. The smaller scope of III and VC means finding all the hidden packages for example has a meaningful impact. Collecting 100 tags in los santos takes so long even with a guide just by playing casually you'd be able to arm yourself far exceeding the free weapons. Even more so if doing the other tasks which give big payouts.

I loved the 90s setting of San Andreas and arguably GTA3 (2001).

The most disappointing thing about the future of the franchise is that every new title will be set in "current day" which is soulless. I think the 90s is the best time period for these games to be set, it isn't really believable going late into the 00s without jumping the shark.

I used to spend time in Vice City's buildings and pretend to be apart of the scene. Because coming from GTA 3 it blew my mind that we had things like the pole position and Malibu Club to enter, or the Mall. A big part of my childhood then was being amazed at what I could do in the game prior to San Andreas. The map is so small yet it felt massive to me back at the time because you could go inside the buildings. I spent unusually long amounts of time marvelling at the interiors. I didn't even get to the other islands before spending a lot of time just doing random things in the first one, and that's also why I got so attached to ocean view and wanted to hang out in the room all the time. I swear there was some sort of joy that can't be experienced again regarding the start of open world games. Small felt big. San Andreas had the most content in its world, but I was more attached to both GTA 3 and Vice City's cities. Because back then that's when open world opened (in a way that mattered) up for the first time that wasn't an RPG. Sure there were prior games like Driver. But GTA was just more fun to play.

For III as I know the game more and it is much simpler and shorter i'll also sometimes play with my "street thug™" rules for the immersion.

Main goal is to get an experience where there is uncertainty and risk to combat and using existing map knowledge to equip claude. I mostly do this to keep it fresh and offset 20+ years of playthroughs so it feels that bit closer to the first time again. Plus it fits in with the theme of claude just being some literal who street scumbag he gets treated as.

I wouldn't do it with VC as the setting doesn't promote such a ruleset and while SA does the scope of the game makes it a bit unfun outside of los santos.

keep track of which activities you've already done with friends throughout the game in a blank notepad file. idk if this is true, but when they're the ones calling you, they seem to always be offering to go out on a task you haven't done before.

if you don't have time to do the activity or just don't want to fucking do it, accept anyway. call them back immediately and cancel. your relationship level won't go down that way.

also do note that a lot of "100% completion guides" on the internet have that "do each activity with each friend" part wrong. they like, copy pasted the activities for each friend. little jacob won't go bowling, packie won't go out eating, etc.

there's no simple way to collect all the pigeons. it's going to take hours of fucking around on foot and running away from cops. the game also likes to crash while you're collecting them for some reason, so save very often, not like after every single one but like 7-15. there's a "pigeon locator" tool that reads your save file which will be useful if you ever lose track of them. i almost always do.

all of the other tasks are pretty self explanatory. oh and one last big pro tip, when it comes to doing the races and you don't wanna start in last, reverse into someone at the starting grid, as damaging other cars starts the race immediately.

IV's 100% is also the worst in the entire series because your reward is WOW it's fucking nothing.

well in the older games you're heavily incentivized by the rewards. every 10 hidden packages gives you free weapon pickups and you can manually respawn them with garages which is pretty OP. or like, doing the firefighter missions makes you invulnerable to fire, so if you do it really early in SA, you no longer have any problem with fire for the rest of the game. the required for 100% activities are also not particularly challenging if you're not a total sperg.

the problem with IV is they did a complete 180 on this and give you absolute dogshit rewards. they are there, but they don't feel like rewards. i personally wouldn't have put 200 pigeons into the game but they were really just trying to get you to look at the environment, i guess. the statue of liberty has fucking five of them on it, and you need a sniper rifle to get them.

i typically keep maps open in photoshop. i'll just blend all the collectibles into one map and cross them off as i collect them, usually during missions or when i'm already around an area, i'll just clear out the collectibles real quick and move on. it's faster that way, rather than returning to each island last, or forcing it by clearing entire islands at once. i can see how that can get a little exhausting.

I really feel grove street and the surrounding area - which are the most crime riddled parts of los santos - should've had more weapon pickups to make early game exploration more rewarding AND a way to re-arm yourself after dying (which you will playing for the first time). Would also make it feel more like you are uncovering hidden caches other gangbangers have left to avoid them being confiscated by the police so they can continue their little gang war.

this r3 mission was just "fly this slow, boring, fragile helicopter around the map with no radio for over an hour"
and i mean it when i say fragile, it's seriously like 2 hits and it's smoking. this is also the only mission i recall that specifically introduces weather effects to fuck you up. plus if you fail it, you have to start completely over.

having this mission to do made me ragequit my last VCS 100%. it's just not fun.

Just a retail 1.0 with Widescreen Fix, SilentPatch, replaced timecyc.dat with timecycp.dat in the same data folder (it's very subtle but actually makes the game look a bit better), and portable plugin so that saves would go into game folder and not shit up the user folder. Sure but a major point of GSF being nobodies when CJ rolls up is the cops took all their guns (leading to nine's and AK's and robbing uncle sam) and it logically follows the cops would've done the same to the gangs in the surrounding neighbourhoods to keep the little gang wars down to a manageable level. In fact that is the entire spiel tenpenny gives you as the intro to a mission.

So we have a story justification and the increased number of pickups would be fun mechanically as well.
