Think about what a pile of shit Windows is, now imagine it interfacing with a peripheral that needs absolutely stable and reliable performance. For real, go read UploadVR's article on this thing, the guy who did Valve's demo talks about how it fucked up and started randomly dropping frames and Valve said it was because of Windows. This mirrors my experience exactly.

I sold my index and bought a quest 3, best decision I ever made. It's a worse product in every respect but Microsoft doesn't have a say in whether it fucks up so it's at least reliable and works every time I use it.

That said I'll still buy this, I just have no confidence in it as a VR platform.

Static foveated rendering does work great on it with its ginormous fresnel lenses. The problem with it for its entire lifespan is the way you have to interact with software. It’s different with nearly every application you launch. Some guy did launch open source drivers for it recently that apparently fixes that and improves performance across the board.
