It's a truly terrible RPG though. The combat would be passable if it wasn't literally the same from moment 1 to the end of the game. There's like 4 standard enemy types across all factions and maybe 6 unique boss varieties. The writing is atrocious. The companions are generally utterly insufferable, with the only two I wound up nto utterly hating being gray warden blackman and the excessively theatrical lich, and I only warmed to the lich when I could make him kill his fucking meme skeleton. Exploration is terrible. Every optional challenge is a big fucking dragon that all fight the same.

The only way to fix Dragon Age is to retcon everything past Awakenings and then redo the series from there. I already have a model on how the games will go and what story they would follow. It would go by region and be a series of conflicts that affect that region with larger things brewing in the background which would culminate in a major conflict for an ultimate multi-region spanning game à la
Inquisition. 2 would be similar to how it is now being set in the Free Marches and have Hawke only it would be all of the Free Marches and not just Kirkwall and Hawke would just be one of multiple origins for the player character. You would start out as a refugee fleeing from the blight but you depending on what you choose you would have a different starter companion. Human is more or less the same with Bethany/Carver and Avelline, Dalish would get Merrill, City Elf would get Fenris, Surface Dwarf would get Varric, Mages would get Anders and the prologue would be how they managed to get to Kirkwall. That would be followed by them making it big and becoming the champion which is normally the halfway but but in this version it opens up the Free Marches. You become an agent of the Viscount to deal with various issues across the region and help deal with any threats to both the Kirkwall and the region as a whole. The Qunari would still be there but the big issue is a mix of Orlais trying to subtly compromise the regions autonomy and of course the mage-templar tension. It ends more or less the same with Anders blowing up the Chantry of Kirkwall but its revealed that he was being backed by an Orlesian Noble who was secretly being supported by Gaspard to acquire the region in order to strengthen his claim on the Orlesian throne and oust Celene. But Anders was never actually supposed to blow up the Chantry and that leads to a shitstorm in the city. Cont

The thing is that ultimately this is probably the easiest given that most of the work is already done and its just a matter of picking elements from the previous games that were retconned and choosing what to keep and what to discard. Most of DA stuff games, books, animation, comics, etc can be described as wasted potential. If its the Mortalitasi/Nobles then the situation is handled more quietly with only the general info about an attempted coup being revealed, but if its the military/seekers then everything gets revealed and greater tension grows with mages.

Sten didn't have horns because they couldn't give him a helm with them. Helms were part of the whole armor set system they had going for them back in DA:O, and without a helm, Sten would be nerfed compared to every other companion, because he wouldn't be able to equip a full set. So they made him hornless and since he was the only Qunari in the game, you had no one else to show that the others had horns. Which felt like a retcon in DA2, because in DA:O there wasn't even a line alluding to it. Some fans were obviously upset, especially since DA2 fucked up everything.

I feel liek there a quite a couple of small things to make Kirckwall more interesting considering you're stuck there for the entire game. For instance every act plays in a different season, some house building in act on that gets finished in act 3 and opens a new area, character textures agins or at least a different hairstyle.
