Let's assume this cost 399 plus tip. Can /v/ even make a pc cheaper than a $400 prebuilt?

They could get it to $400 and still be profitable, no problem at all. Prebuilts have someone at every step of the supply chain making money, this is a sweetheart deal for salvaged defective entry-level parts directly from AMD, assembled into a PCB smaller than Steam Deck's.

AMD saw how important Steam Deck was in launching a new market, they're going to be happy to give Valve a good price hoping they'll repeat that success.

I'm going to say $450 for the 500GB model, $600 for the 2TB model - UNLESS ram prices keep going up.

closest i could make with partpicker

similar Zen 4 cpu (newegg price)
similar rdna3 28CU gpu
cheapest itx motherboard
cheapest memory
cheapest 2tb nvme ssd with cache
cheapest sff psu
cheap but effective fan
cheap case

but like >>725715541
is suggesting, if Steam makes deals with manufacturers they could lower the price significant by a few hundred.

with pc parts being all over the place, this could dominate the entry level pc market.
