Steam controller will be most popular, followed by the frame and steam machine competing. In fact if the Steam Machine goes for $400 it'll bury the frame. A mid Quest 3 clone has less appeal to normies than a good budget prebuilt that isn't ugly as shit.

Retards just dont understand that valve doesnt depend on hardware sales for their main source of income like Sony and Nintendo do since the steam store makes them more than enough to experiment and can take a loss without actually losing profit.

I think the whole end game of Valve is to make people comfortable using Steam everywhere and Linux.
I think Deck was a success, and Steam cube, if the price is right, will replace Xbox in console wars.
I never expected Deck to compete with the current console market because the average console fag is too retarded to operate a linux based system, but 4 millies is more than enough. I expected Deck to sell 1 mill units at best due to its niche nature, and join Valve's hardware graveyard

>Steam controller will be most popular
It does not look very ergonomic but maybe it's more comfortable than it appears. It really depends on the price. The old steam controller was "popular" but only after they were selling them off at bargain bin prices.
The reason I say the Frame is the most relevant is because it's the only one offering a new solution to VR that hasn't been achieved yet (assuming they've done a good job, and (((insiders))) claim they have); yeah, VR is a niche market overall but they could dominate that niche pretty easily if the rumors about the Frame/Deckard being as good as it sounds are true and they're able to price it low enough.

I do not believe the new Steam Machine will be a hit at all. People interested in the mini PC market will either already have one or would consider one over the Machine, especially since its specs honestly aren't that great and it apparently does not even include a controller(?) (Valve are yet to confirm whether it does, which is a little odd); I can't see many people buying it.

The Deck and the Frame will be their pillar products, calling it now.

It's a budget pc. They aren't marketing it to people who specifically want mini-pcs. They're marketing it as a budget gaming focused prebuilt, the size is an afterthought. It's also being marketed as a living room setup, a companion system. They're hitting two broad markets, not a smaller niche market.
>You can buy prebuilt mini PCs and most of them are inexpensive with decent spec for the money
Yes but will they outperform this one for the same price? Will they be specifically optimized for thanks to Valve devkits? Will they be plug and play?

You're comparing apples to oranges like tendies (the most autistic fanbase, worse than snoys and xbots) do, I like the Vita, but it was intended to sell more than the its competitor 3DS, it failed to do so, it also sold way less than its predecessor PSP.

The Steam Deck is the best handheld of all times, with a library far superior than the likes of the Switch (like half or more of the best games are rehashes, usually full-price Wii U ports and uninspired direct sequels), if the Switch is a Volkswagen Golf, the Deck is a Ferrari 296. >Why do you care if a fucking toy sold more than another?
Have computers become toys now?
The Steam Deck is literally a computer. So are other consoles (Switch, Playstation), but the difference is that their operating systems are closed, so you can't install your own software, program things, etc., which is quite curious, by the way. Imagine if Microsoft decided that everyone using Windows from today onwards could no longer program on their computers, install programs, or even change any hardware component that Windows could detect... people would find that unacceptable, but they consume consoles all the time, which are computers that work exactly like that...

But back to the subject, if you think computers are toys, then I don't know what you're doing on a video game discussion board.

Yeah, Microsoft started requiring CPUs with a certain type of technology, supposedly for security reasons, but few believe that. Microsoft's move caused outrage among enthusiast groups, but as usual, normalfags didn't give a fuck.
This is all bad, but it's still light years away from what Sony and Nintendo do. Any modification to your own hardware that is identified will render your computer largely inoperable.
But that's another issue. The point is that computers, both open and closed, are not toys.

This is the reason why I don't think the gabe box can dethrone the consoles, or even make a meaningful hit.

Valve doesn't have the money and capacity to fabricate enough units.

They'd need to make dozens of millions of gabe boxes - which they will be selling at a loss, mind you.

They could barely handle a couple million steam decks, and let's not get into the embarrassment that was the steam controller. Valve literally can't even produce CONTROLLERS to meet the demand.

not that anon, but my theory is they dont care if their devices flop, its not what makes them money. im pretty convinced the steamdeck exists for one reason only
to convince chinese companies to pour tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars into building better handhelds and better portable devices that completely stomp the floor. same with the steamcube. they WANT other companies to make better, faster, stronger linux based consoles. and same with the steam vr headset. they WANT china to pump out better, faster, cheaper vr headsets based on linux.

because at the end of the day you put steam on them. a direct line to their store and a way to throw money at valve. what does the Lenovo Legion Go S advertise its compatible with. steam. what does the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X support? steam. MSI Claw 8 AI+? steam. Ayaneo Flip DS? steam. Ayaneo Kun? steam.

the point is that once the steamdeck existed, it was fucking stupid for anyone making a handheld portable device to not try to make sure it could run steam and thus, have 20,000 games and your entire steam library ready to play on it, day 1. the console and vr headset is the same thing. once they exist, every console and vr headset maker is going to have to decide "well, if we dont put steam on this, itll eat into our sales of the hardware".

its win win for valve.

...did...did you read the post. all those devices put valves actual money maker on their consoles and portables, steam. what games do lenovo, msi, ayaneo sell. they fucking dont, you put steam on them and you buy games from steam and they take a 30% cut.

So Gaben is funding Epic Store?

I like interesting tech but I don't really see any situation where you'd want to use a steam deck. Its too big to carry without a bag. You might as well just bring your laptop and a controller, you'd have a bigger screen as well.

to some extent, sure. steam gets about twice the monthly users, and has about 3 times the total accounts, so its mostly more towards valve, but yeah. i dont think valves that worried because epic makes sure their crossplay games works with steam games. its a requirement on their store, otherwise no one would use epic games for games sold on steam.

i mean, why would you buy gta 5, or 6, on epic games if you only got to play with half, or less of the users?

heres the epic games store page about how crossplay must work. youll see that steam is mentioned 48 times. its really important to them.

sure. but riot games only sells something like, 8 games, and every single one of them is free-to-play. valves business model is taking 30% from game sales. they dont compete with eachother. infact, valorant is on epic games. infact, league of legends, valorant, i think all of riots games are on epic games except the mobile game. hell, league of legends was even sold on steam for a bit, they dont care, it was riot games that pulled it from the steam store. valve would love to have them on their service. more users, more people buying the other games on their storefront, more 30% cut.

so do epic game store users. heres something to consider. in 2022, epic games had 6 billion in revenue. in 2023, steam had 5 billion in revenue.
but epic games only has about 4000 games on its store, steam has about 118,000 games.

epic games doesnt sell games, man. they sell skins. fortnites revenue in 2022? 5.55 billion. remember how much i said epic games revenue was in 2022? 6 billion. 92% of epic games revenue comes from a free to play game. 1, single, game. thats why they sink so much money into different games, thats why they pay for exclusive games, to keep them off steam, because if fortnite goes out, they go bankrupt. if valve loses tf2, or counter strike, or arc raiders, or call of duty 7, or battlefield 6, its a small dent in their overall storefront. because valve sells games. not "game".

>>725752416
you know you can just put windows on a steam deck. valve even released drivers for it and have a page showing you how to do it. they dont care. doesnt hurt their business model, your gonna install windows on your steamdeck and.......put steam on it.

Indeed, it turned out that despite their refusal to support GNU/Linux based OSes, Valve has more paying users running Steam on GNU/Linux, than the Epic Store has paying customers total.

eh, i dont really care. i think the whole valve vs egs thing is just interesting in general. its interesting to think about how "gabe is the one who introduced skins/gabes the monster for charging 30% per game sale", when tim sweeney is literally richer then gabe newell and did it not even selling games but selling skins to children.
and yet somehow sweeney is the underdog? its just funny how general population perceives things and how this things come to be.

its kinda like how denuvo got villified for "frying ssd's" for like a decade. theres a shitload of reasons to hate denuvo, the invasive data collection, it failing and giving false postives for piracy, it blocking modding your games, so on, so fourth, but no one used to bring that up. they said it fried ssd's. i spent a good long time trying to verify that and it came down to one single persons reddit post claiming it did, who deleted it because he said he got the maths wrong. when i bring this up people will claim furiously they knew a guy, or saw a post, or someone confirmed this to be the truth, but no one has ever actually shown anything. its just, "trust me bro". and this entire time actually testing this would take, an hour, you can use any denuvo game thats had it removed (lords of the fallen was the one example i use) to check the maths. i crunched the numbers based on lords of the fallen users on steam, average playtime, the steam stats hardware survey and estimated something like 110,000 ssd's should of been fried based on that post, but nope, couldnt find a single post online about it.

shit on denuvo for being a piece of shit software, but chose an actual real reason, ya know? people just parroted what they heard. a reddit post.

Vita was a flop because it was its own discrete ecosystem and had no games.

The same can be said of Switch except that it actually has games. If it didn't sell tens of millions of units it would be a catastrophic flop because that single device is the entire ecosystem.

Deck is a PC. PC exists whether Deck exists or not. Selling 4 million PCs of a given configuration would give any prebuilt gaming PC company CEO an hour-long orgasm.
