microsoft has been playing catch-up with sony in the home console market and failed for three generations in a row (to be fair the xbox 360 surely riled up those cocky nips and they had to fight tooth and nail for customers) and now even they are giving up on home consoles are the next xbox is rumored to be essentially a prebuilt pc with console-like UI/OS
what I'm trying to say is.... where is the steamcube trying to position itself? it doesn't appeal to console gamers since people on ps/xbox/switch already got their libraries there, it doesn't appeal necessarely to pc gamers since they have alle the emulators in the world, the freedom of the desktop experience (both the advantages and the disadvantages) and so on, not to mention that behind playstation/nintendo there are companies with decades of experience in the console business
I just don't see a use case for it or any reason for it to exist
I'm not saying it's another Stadia, surely it will get some people interested to try it just like steam deck

This is a small PC that runs steam OS out of the box. Nothing more, nothing less. It will not compete with Playstation, and it's not even going near the Switch's yard. This appeals to people who want to tinker with the shiny new gizmo Steam released despite having a PC already that's probably comparable if not flat out better then the thing, just like that was the main market for steam deck buyers, and without massive mainstream marketing and selling it front and center in every bumfuck Walmart there is (which they will never do) it's not going to do any better than the steam deck did, a fine 5 millionish units sold after a few years
