Hearts of Iron 4 is the easiest map painter if you wanted an intro. You only need to understand about 20% of the game mechanics to win WW2 as a major, you might even win your very first run since the AI sucks at templates. Helps that a campaign is usually around 5-10 hours instead of the 50 hour beasts you can get out of the other games like EU4.

I know this is bait but there's a centuries old paper trail of laws and documents referencing a class of professional warriors who had special restrictions and privileges. To even make it somewhat believable you'd need to say it was a myth constructed in the Tokugawa Bakufu, which is still retarded but at least there's some caveats to that one. How exactly do trade companies work? I have found out that I can create one with release nation. I assume they will just trade on their own and send me money, but I also unlocked some buildings along that research. I could only find the trade company HQ in the buildings list but when I try to build it, it just says I need to research it, which I have. I'm not the only one with that problem

You CAN loanmax and it is required early for certain countries like Byzantium. In fact, it is entirely allowed to max your loans, use them to build up your economy and RGOs, debase the shit out of your currency to pay off the loans, then lay back and lower inflation.
Blobbing, not so much, because of the control mechanic. You actually need to build up the land you conquer, integrate it, build buildings to connect it with the capital (roads, ports, protect maritime routes, bailiffs, temples etc.) to actually extract taxes from it. If you blob without integrating you'll lose money trying to hold that new land.

Yeah OPM vassals are unbalanced. The scaling for vassal power compared to overlord is too low and conversion too fast, and they don't eat enough diplo maintenance to matter.

Yeah that's a big issue of mine, the Hordes should be very powerful early game but gradually be whittled down via internal instability and then be quickly overwhelmed. They figured it out in EUIV, EUV seems like the Hordes are just broken as a result of the Eastern European AI not being aggressive enough yet. It really irks me still seeing the Golden Horde in nearly all late game screenshots.

In your games, has Funchal, the small island inbetween Portugal and the Canary Islands been colonized? If so, is it a stable province?
I've had several test games in Portugal and Castile to get ideas down, and everytime in the process I do a side test with exploration and colonization, and while the Canaries and the Azores are colonized with no issue, Funchal is colonized and immediately starves to death.
My assumption is it's an issue being so far from a market and being a one location province, but even making it a new market center hasn't seemed to solve the food issue.
Mainly want to know if it's the same situation say by like 1550 or later

I can not get into vanilla paradox games. The historical setting is just so boring and uninteresting. I don't want to roleplay and fufil my power fantasy about some 1500s euro kingdom. EU5 is definitely the deep end of the paradox pool, maybe try eu4 or ck2/3 first? Vicky2 was my first so pop management may be difficult if you go into EU5 blind.

I've got my complaints but I'm still a little surprised at how much I've not hated it. I'm at 1543 now and colonization seems to go pretty hard but the AI are fucking retarded. Spain and portugal have spent the whole time building up some big dogshit failed blobs in west africa while no one has touched brazil. France is only just now starting to despite being whole for awhile now. And a few med and minors tags have gotten some clay. Meanwhile I snagged the entire north american coast in no time just sitting on it until i can afford to fuck with it more. Also of all the feelgood changes from eu4 to 5 the best so far has to be the tech tree, the Ui for it is fucking awful but having actual branches and not just waiting on the next tech is nice.
