huh? I'd say shitting up your computer with meaningless noise isn't great. to be fair, Windows brought this on itself because event viewer is some bizarre XML logging facility that's painful to use with their APIs.
On UNIX systems you always have syslog to just throw random dogshit to and with systemd, /dev/stdout ends up being sent to journald/syslog for you.

I wish people knew how Windows worked in general.

Windows itself is whatever. the problem is nonfree 3rd party software like AMD's that shits it up. I recommend everyone use WHQL only drivers that Windows Update would ship, but that comes with some "performance" issues. This is one of the reasons I went with Linux in the first place, because I can just patch out or isolate bad software.

I just checked becuase I have a 7800X3D too, and I do have it despite using Nvidia GPUs since AMD GPUs were still ATI branded

Did you ever install the AMD Adrenalin package? Because I did (despite it only ever giving me one important update in the last 2 years) so maybe that's the culprit?

It's both in the case that you have an AMD CPU with an iGPU and you haven't shut it off in the UEFI. In that case you get into the situation where Windows installs drivers for it as part of the AMD chipset drivers and then you get the AMD external events utility onto your system to fuck with you.

Anonymous No.725754984 [Report]
While it's not exactly ideal that it does that the amount of written data is very low.
Your other drivers do similar things.

On a related note: know that windows itself writes a LOT more data on the OS disk/partition even when "idle" because it's a piece of shit.

HDDs and SSDs are not for long term storage, they are for files being accessed and modified frequently. If you want to store stuff long term, get yourself either a DVD burner and a stack of archival-grade gold DVDs, or an industrial tape backup deck and some of those multi-TB tapes. Either one will out-live even the best taken care of HDD/SSD. Properly stored, the archival-grade gold DVDs will out-live you. I've been burning all the cartoons, anime, movies, tv shows, music, and videogames I want to keep to archival-grade gold DVDs myself. After all, who knows if it will be this easy to download all the stuff I want in the future?
