I love glitching out of maps, so many games throw invisible walls everywhere now or do that stupid 'return to the battle field you have 10 seconds before we blow you up'. No I don't want to follow your tasteless linear path by force to trigger a scripted event.
Or playing RPGs and enemies don't drop what they're equipped with when they're dead.
Or shooting games that make ammo very rare on harder difficulties when you're expected to pull a Mile High Club-tier achievement every time.

Shit like this is why I respect games that let you brute force locked doors with things like explosives or other weapons. I think there needs to be a good reason why you can’t go through certain doors. Even if that reason is them somehow being barricaded from the other side.

SMT V has these in its dungeons. You can even see on the map that there's nothing there because treasure is marked. It's like they were trying to emulate older SMT design but forgot that they removed random encounters so these little detours do nothing. They don't even work aesthetically they're just dead ends in hallways.

That was mostly just a 7th gen shooter thing. Usually games put contextualised boundaries in place. The only exception is in open world games where they’ll put an invisible wall at the map boundaries because the game has to end somewhere.

One is immersion breaking and the other isn’t. The latter is the more popular solution because its more stylised and keeps you in the game.
I think the only solution more elegant than that is games that are broken up into areas with room transitions, but that isn’t suitable for certain types of games.

We no longer have 2 minutes long loading screens though, and the tight space gimmick is relatively modern, abused mostly by modern videogames running on high speed SSDs.

I honestly don't remember nothing that was that overt, but it was never something that really bothered me, as long as it well comunicated to the player that you may not pass. It's onnly a problem insofar as you're wondering if you're doing something wrong and you think you might be able to pass through it.
I understand that indeed it is stupid, and it's preferable if they should find something that looks like a believable barrier, but I'm mostly concerned with game logic and not too autistic about having something not look realistic, it never really mattered to me, maybe because my first games on the 80s were all pretty abstract looking to bein with and the barriers were just amorphous color blocks or something.
>Please wait a while before making a post
Man this is getting really irritating, when will moot fix this retarded posting system. Is this shit even random or what? Somedays I even get 10m timeouts before I am able to start posting. not to mention the fucking captchas that are getting more ridiculous, probably to fight a single autistic poster.

An area in my town had one of these, I think it was a mission (basically a century+ year old Spanish outpost), and I "snuck" over it by simply climbing the uncovered steps behind it, then ran to the top. It was the most my heart had ever beat in my life at that point, as though my juvenile brain saw immediate, effortless dopamine by breaking the rules. Like seeing $5 on a counter and no one is around, because there was 0 challenge in getting around the barrier and yet so much reward.
