Dpad was an actual thumb destroyer it was so raised and sharp with terrible diagonal registration

Face buttons were tiny and spaced way too far apart

Memory card being a separate little handheld thing was sub-Nintendo levels of gimmicky bullshit

Cord out the bottom because of bullshit gimmick

About the only thing I can praise it for is the actual shape was pretty good to hold and the analog triggers were good

But man I loved the actual system and games, it was fucking awesome.

Dreamcast was extremely overrated.
People are just nostalgic because it was the first online game and it had Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, and a memory card that reminded you of a Game Boy. And lets be honest Sonic Adventure was only fun when you played as sonic and not the other stupid characters.

Playstation was pumping out far better titles and thats just the truth. Sure Sega had a few special games like Phantasy Star Online and Power Stone 2 but thats not enough.

Fun, yes, though it's arguable. You had to be into what DC had on offer.
Most variety? Oh fuck no. One of dreamcast's biggest problems was the lack of variety. For many genres, for the console's entire lifetime, you had one entry that was good. One that wasn't but was at least trying. And if you had any more entries at all, they were shovelware-tier.
Not being the most popular does indeed have a not-insignifigant impact on that, because it meant a lot of publishers/developers wouldn't even release on it. That quite obviously lowers the amount of games, amount of variety, and the overall amount of games that are actually fun.
