It doesn't seem necessary. There's no shortage of people willing to draw for a game. For games in EA, plenty of fans would probably happily draw something for free to have it on the wall in the game.
I get AI is quick and cheap for background images that most people will never stop and look at, but like all things it will spread. They won't be able to resist the urge to start generating other assets like models and characters.

I don't even know why you need to get into the philosophy of what is and isn't art. The simple reality is if you're too lazy to actually make a game then you don't deserve to be paid as a game dev.

The damage control is that it's their own fault, but in reality someone deliberate fucked up their training data on purpose to the point it's going to keep getting yellower and yellower unless they basically start over from zero.

Art is expression. It’s getting whats inside of your brain outside of your brain onto a canvas, or a CD, or stitched into a quilt or whatever it may be.
Computers don’t have brains. They don’t have emotions. And they don’t have a compulsive desire to express those emotions. This they cannot create art.

The medium doesn’t convey expression, only intent, so it isn’t art. There’s no meaning to the individual brushstrokes, or the decision to place a certain chord in a certain part of the song. The AI just populates a product through random procedural generation based on an initial set of instructions created by the user.
The user cedes his total control and discretion when using AI over using a different tool like a pencil or paintbrush, and so the end product will necessarily fail to fully capture the AI user’s artistic expression

>The medium doesn’t convey expression
I don't know the word for the kind of argument you're making but it's stupid and baseless on at least two levels.
1.) Your idea of what the artist is expressing is completely arbitrary and subjective, it's just a guess.
2.) Why can't it convey expression? Who are you to decide this? If I make something with AI and feel like I've expressed myself then I have expressed myself.

>There’s no meaning to the individual brushstrokes
There is meaning to whatever steps you took to create the art you wanted to create. There are an infinite amount of things you can do with AI to express yourself just like you can with a guitar or a brush.
Anonymous No.725831436 [Report] >>725831542 >>725837051
>>725831119
>Why can't it convey expression?
Because the things it produces are, on the whole, the product of random noise. It starts with an initial set of loose instructions and then populates some form of product with random noise, using the initial instructions as a loose set of criteria.
When a painter paints a portrait, he paints it from beginning to end with the goal of expressing and evoking a particular feeling. Every droplet of paint on the canvas is directed towards that one goal. The AI user does not have one one-millionth of the control over his canvas unless he is editing his AI images in photoshop in which case they become art again

If you had total control over every inch of the AI image, then it would just be a digital painting made by yourself in an extremely convoluted way by telling the computer what lines to draw, what colors to use, the different shades to use, etc., instead of just doing it yourself by hand.
But that’s not what you’re doing. It’s called generative AI because the AI is itself generating material to fill in the gaps left by your incomplete instructions.

The most general reason is enshittification. Like how search engines are now almost completely unusable thanks to all the useless slop they return. There's also objections to it being built on theft and used pretty much exclusively by bitter, talentless third worlders who resent the people that were stolen from. That sort of thing puts a bad taste in an actual human's mouth. But specifically in the case of vidya, no one wants to pay money for something the "developer" didn't even make.

They use automated systems to trawl the internet for training data (ie steal art/photography) and after the Ghibli meme blew up there was so much AI art with a yellow filter being postee on the sites that they stole art from that it ended up poisoning their training data.
AI need colossal amounts of stolen art to work, were talking hundreds of millions. They can't go through it manually, but no algorithm can differentiate between AI and real pictures so over time AI models are just being fed more AI slop back at them, and the successive generations of regurgitated slop are slowly destroying their ability to create passable output.

Not every model is constantly pushing out new versions that use fresh training data. If you're just refining the training process or the model's underlying code, you can reuse the same training data over and over for a while at least. Over time the yellowing, or other similar artifacts, will crop up in every up to date model, but for the time being it primarily affects OpenAI, who are most affected because they actively update their training data regularly.

yes. it is good. Because it's one more step in tech tree of energy management. Newton's laws, faggot.
Besides, you, like any other delusional mong on this fucking rock, in a stunning display of the arrogant obvious self-bias, believe that human life means anything is worth anything. It fucking is not. It fucking does not. That is the simple truth of the universe. You either accept it and embrace the science, engineering, and technology as the things that matter, or you remain stupid and ignorant. Nothing more to it.
>you cannot talk bad about my invention since its technology.
that is correct. The management of energy and being able to harness power to use it for both "good" and "bad" is a never ending quest the humans, and the science has.
>i am going to detonate it in 10 minutes.

because I have goals. It is indeed possible to acknowledge the reality and choose to exist in it, moving forward, and to value the things you do in it, when you're an intelligent being. A truly intelligent being. Not some college educated stupid pretentious cocksucker.
>save more resources for the people
I don't give a single fuck about other people. I am the main character of the universe. Other humans are a means to an end. I might choose to cooperate with them and even pretend to care whenever it serves me and my existence. Whenever it helps me advance and come closer to my goals. AI does help me get closer to all and any of my goals, past, current, and future, because it removes the need to cooperate with lots of clinical retards IRL.

Using AI to generate assets isn't a problem in itself.
The problem is that human made assets were inherently deliberate, there was a reason to look into them and try to think on what they mean.
Unless the guy generating the images is autistic about what they want out of the AI, the image could be generic and meaningless.
That said, I'm not going to pretend every blade of grass in a game is part of the artistic vision, using AI isn't necessarily bad.
