I've met two of my neighbors, the Palanhoth (blue) and the Earon (pink). The Palanhoth are the most advanced empire, coming into power after trading with the rest of the galaxy. The Earon are the oldest power here, with a fuckton of starships and owning the minefield I ran face-first into.
>>525598175Space mines are no joke. Any jump fleet trying to go past them instantly gets stuck in that tile and takes massive casualties. The slower ships that only move one tile aren't affected, but they'll take forever to go the distance.

I've discovered the last power, Freberon (yellow), in the opposite corner of the galaxy from me. Their tech level's only a little bit ahead of mine, but they have an Industrial Complex. Those are big ol' special constructs dedicated to nothing but shitting out warships, and the longer the game goes on the more and more it'll be a pain in my ass.
With Pink in my way and Yellow too distant my only option is to advance in Blue's direction. Even after losing half their strength my jumpfleet should be able to take all their worlds, minus the capital. That said I expect to see worlds flip back and forth, since I won't be able to ferry in enough Legions to hold the planets from Blue's counterattacks. Still, better for war to be on his doorstep than on mine.
My slower ships will take the cluster of four worlds east of Pink, and essentially wait for an opening in their defenses. Their minefields and base planet Wanxian guard their core, but with enough luck I'll be able to slide in with my slow ships when they redeploy their fleets.
With enough time I'll be able to get supply lines going and optimizing my war effort, but right now I need more clay and population.
>>525600869One day if I make it to retirement I'll finally clear my backlog of all the games I buy on sale but never make time to actually play. Some day I want to take the time to properly sink into Aurora, Alpha Centauri, etc.

where the fuck is the crisis
>>525640716there it is
don't think I'll bother with it though
My campaign in the Northwest is going pretty smoothly. On turn 5 I captured Blue's military base Delta Volantis One (now renamed /ksg/), and then spent a few turns intercepting their expeditionary fleets intended on conquering their weaker neighbors. This left their capital Palanhoth relatively undefended, and after linking up with significant reinforcements from my core worlds I was able to capture their home. Unfortunately this has come at the cost of significant losses to my jumpfleet, which means a decent period of rebuilding and reinforcing before sending them down towards Yellow.
Yellow and Pink are expanding as well, and I think I'll really see the science gap come into play during the next stretch of this scenario. I don't have the Starship-class unlocked yet, and after losing over half of my starting jumpfleets it'll take much longer to assemble significant amounts of smaller ships. I don't even have the techs needed to make my own Industrial Complex, so my only move now is to consolidate my holdings and try to set up supply chains to maximize efficiency. At least I can use the starting Starships I was given, plus the ones I captured from Blue, to start clearing Pink's minefields.
On another note my priority is Yellow over Pink, even though they have a larger fleet size and Pink's on my doorstep. Until I clear the minefields I can't safely utilize my jumpfleets on them, and Yellow's Industrial Complex means they have stronger snowballing potential. I want to attack them now, while we're still at similar tech levels.
new to civ 6. is it not better to harvest stone and build a mine on it in every single case, except for flat stone that's next to an industrial zone?

How is the nile scenario even remotely balanced?
Cleopatra starts with a whole city up and running already, in the good part of the Nile and gets the Mandingo chariots. Also starts with about 6 city states feeding her capital production.
Nubia spawns in desert abyss, 3 techs behind and is unable to put up a defense against the 8 movement chariots.

How do individualistic machines compare to normal bio empires?
>>525737504they were busted as hell when machine age released, I'm pretty sure they're still better
>>525737504>no need for food upkeep>set up planet for good growth by just settling enough pops to work an assemblythat's pretty good. no psi though. they still don't make any sense from an RP perspective. I'd prefer a general machine intelligence ascension that lets your empire become individualistic
>>525741871>no psi thoughDoesnโt psionic ascension kind of suck tho?
>>525741871>they still don't make any sense from an RP perspective. I'd prefer a general machine intelligence ascension that lets your empire become individualisticWhy would that matter? You can just say the original creators were a FE and they splintered off or some shit like that. Or they're digital constructs of a formerly bio species. No reason they need to start as a hive mind.
Blue has been relegated to a single planet. The north is my playground, with Palanoth and /kspg/ in the west being a good nucleus. Their production and ships looted from Blue in that region has been key in the campaign in that region.
Geography continues to be a bitch. I'm not ready to commit my jumpfleets to attack Yellow, I still need their strength to completely elminate Blue. Purple's being a big ol' pain in the dick and has stolen /l/, my favorite farm world, with a surprise jumpfleet attack. They're also been using Hunter Killers (stealth jumpdrive ships) to raid my supply lines. Now that I have the tech work is underway to build deep radar outposts, which will nullify stealth in a five-tile radius.
Yellow's starting to snowball and currently has a higher industry score than I do. With Pink being aggressive and literally in my way I'm going to need to take them out first. With any luck I'll unlock the tech to build my own Industrial Complexes soon and so I can prep for the final phase of this scenario.
As an aside, the southeast is too irrelevant to care about right now. Gildros could be an okay regional base, but by the time it's developed enough I should have access to Industrial Complexes. At that point I'll probably park one right by Oiial and Mirur and use their resources to fuel the late-game campaign against Yellow.
>>525747818Kill them all.
>>525743230Idk I remember the psi job being OP not sure if that's still the case. Didn't play them in new patch.
>>525743565>individualist machine empiresYeah but then you go through the "WOW THERE'S ALIEN LIFE OUT THERE?" in-game events and that throws me off. Like no shit you're a fucking machine surrounded by biological life. If you figured out FTL you must have already figured out shit like evolution and how it's impossible that your creation can't be traced back to sapient biological life. I like my flavor too much.
I don't know I guess you can kinda come up with something like being a remnant of a stranded society that had a history so long they forgot where they came from and had debates through history about their origin (supernatural vs biological creators). Anything else, and I start wondering why a race of sentient robots (literal AGI individuals) that knows how to reproduce through assembly needs to research what's far below the level of knowledge needed. If you're going the "digital constructs" route either a) somebody else did that to you so you should be aware that you're not alone out there so the early game exploration events make no sense, b) you did that to yourself and if you have the knowledge for personality digitalization, you shouldn't need to research better ship combat computers because you probably understand the hardware well enough already.
TL;DR I'm always bothered by this and it's probably because I lack imagination, but also because the flavor text in in-game events if you're playing one don't make sense.
>>525751064psi was never OP. spy gameplay is ass, crime is easy to fix, and other ascension traditions can provide better modifiers to resource

>>525748683>Pink starts sending large fleets to reinforce and capture other worlds>capital is left shockingly undefended>finally had some starships open up a gap in their minefieldFuck it, I'll finish off Blue later. This chance isn't going to come again.
Ended up moving my entire jumpfleet from the northwest, rendesvousing them with all my other jumpships, and sending it all at Pink's capital Earon. Still lost ~1/7th of my Hunter-Killers and ~1/5th of my Jumpships, but now I'm in their back lines and I don't think they have the ground forces to take back their capital from the garrison forces I placed down.
>>525762032Five turns later Pink's failure cascading pretty hard. After losing their Capital two of their worlds immediately rebelled and declared independence. A few more rebelled after that while I tried to intercept some of their warfleets.
I just took the next world they declared their "fall back" capital and I expect to see even more rebellions next turn. Their empire's down to only 5 worlds from a peak of 14, only two of which I stole. The other 7 they lost because of rebellion.
While my jumpfleet has been facilitating and exploiting Pink's death spiral my slow ships have been making it's way towards Blue's final world, with intent to link up with local slow ship forces for the final siege. Pink's remnants should be thoroughly fucked up by then where I can spend a few turns redirecting my jumpfleet to finish off Blue before moving back to the map center. After that it's time to fight Yellow.
Speaking of Yellow it looks like they're running into fuel problems. In Anacreon all worlds have space oil reserves, but because an Industrial Complex is artificial it doesn't have any natural supplies, needing everything to be shipped to it. It might also be due to just running low on space oil, I've seen that same problem trip up the AI in different scenarios. But regardless anything that makes them weaker is a boon in my book.

>b-but I spawned next to militarists/xenophobes/aggressives That's the best test if you can play xenophiles properly. They're the best at controlling relations. Your extra opinion and envoys help a lot. Between improving relations, and giving away resources you don't need, you can make friends with empires of opposing ethics the way other empires can't. If you're xenophile, you can make it so you don't have to go to war if you don't want to. If you combo it with something like Diplomatic Corps, you're even better at this.
>>525864525He made xer mad enough to report him.
I like the idea of a Civ game with culture shifting like in Humankind or Civ 7 but I'm afraid it will never be implemented in a way that isn't cancerous.
>>525876293I think the best way to implement it is instead of switching civs completely, you just take a trait/bonus of that civ when you age up. and each civ would have a different bonus for each age, so taking romans in the medieval era would be different than taking them in the modern era
and your civ's name is either custom or just whatever your first civ was
>>525876667Even more fundamentally, I think naming civs/bonuses after real world civs is the biggest barrier to that. You either end up with shit like transitioning from Romans (ancient era) -> Chinese (medieval era) because those might be the two closest real life civs to what you're doing in game. Secondly, you get the inverse problem where you need to boil cultures down to get a unique or memorable trait. The Vikings? Coastal raiders. The Dutch? Traders. If you already have the Spanish in your game, how do you differentiate the Portuguese from them without them being redundant?
>>525879419>You either end up with shit like transitioning from Romans (ancient era) -> Chinese (medieval era) because those might be the two closest real life civs to what you're doing in game.I think that's fine, it's not that big a deal
>Secondly, you get the inverse problem where you need to boil cultures down to get a unique or memorable trait. The Vikings? Coastal raiders. The Dutch? Traders. If you already have the Spanish in your game, how do you differentiate the Portuguese from them without them being redundant?you can say this about civ games already. they're honestly so gamey that I don't even consider them history games as much as history flavoured
>>525879419>transitioning from Romans (ancient era) -> Chinese (medieval era)I never understood why this in particular bothered people, but building the Coliseum next to the Great Wall is completely fine.
>>525884778Immersion and roleplay. Romans could have built a great wall. It doesn't make sense that the romans would suddenly become chinese.
>>525876293>people really hated this mechanic in that other 4x game>yeah lets try doing that againWhat were they thinking?
>>525888942>Romans could have built a great wall. It doesn't make sense that the romans would suddenly become chinese. Not just a great wall, the Great Wall of China. You can have Mayans fighting Sweden despite being in different continents and centuries, Native Americans building the Great Lighthouse despite never sailing that much, or Ghandi nuking the world because devs thought a bug was funny. And you could have those all in the same game, even. Rome taking on Chinese values or attributes doesn't seem that much more implausible.
the only way a culture shift system could work is it was passive based on actions you did with no historical cultures, or getting creative in how cultures could be different
like if Remus convinced Romulus to build his city and you had a more merchant based Latin Culture
each historical civ diverging in set in stone decisions with variable ones depending on start location, climate, and actions taken/received to and from others civs and the world around your civ
>>525888942Name one instance of Romans building walls.
>>525891442People go in to a civ game knowing it's not a historically reenactment. People are fine with playing the US and bashing the french with clubs. People are not fine going in as the US bashing the french with clubs and suddenly turning in to the chinese shooting the spanish. It breaks the continuity of the narrative they've been building in their head.
>>525892387>People are not fine going in as the US bashing the frenchYet this is what they do online, forgetting that without French help, they'd still pay the tithe to the Crown.
>>525892217Hadrian's Wall, Aurelian expansion of the walls of Rome, Walls of Constantinople
all more effective than china's "great wall"
>>525893230>hadrian's wall
>>525892387>People go in to a civ game knowing it's not a historically reenactmentI agree, which is why I'm confused by the general dislike of this particular mechanic
>People are not fine going in as the US bashing the french with clubs and suddenly turning in to the chinese shooting the spanish. It breaks the continuity of the narrative they've been building in their head. And I feel like that's small minded of them. If it was the Aztec bashing the Spanish with clubs and then it turned into Mexicans shooting the Spanish, would that be less narrative breaking?
>>525895725There are 2 types of people that play civ games. The ones who play it like a sandbox for emergent storytelling and some roleplaying and the ones that just chase victory conditions. You are clearly the latter.
>>525896363>The ones who play it like a sandbox for emergent storytelling and some roleplayingI wouldn't consider myself particularly tryhard or competitive, I've absolutely roleplayed some 4x games. I see no reason why nations changing and cultures shifting over time isn't emergent storytelling, if anything it adds to the experience. It seems a lot of people view the individual cultures as core identities, whereas imo they're just a snapshot of a specific place and time. Like roleplaying as a wizard vs roleplaying as someone who becomes a wizard, then maybe later becomes a fighter.
>>525897053Because the way it works is like trying to give a character development by just swapping to a different character to carry on the story. If it was just picking new traits as you progress that gradually shifted the civs playstyle most people would be fin with it.
I've taken Pink's THIRD capital and I'm confident to say they've been all but destroyed. Their population is less than 10% it was at their peak, their remaining military is only barely stronger than Blue's (solely due to their huge starship fleet), and their industry is crippled beyond repair. So much for the oldest of empires.
Blue remains a rogue state, slow fleets are slow and won't arrive for five more turns. Ironically my war against them lasted longer than my blitz against Pink. Sure Blue's final world will fall before I finish exterminating Pink, but Pink is literally just a corpse empire right now.
Finally Yellow has given me a massive opening. Forces stationed on their Industrial Complex are "relatively" weak. With my solid foothold in the center of the map and the clearing of Pink's minefields, I'm now able to amass jumpdrive warships from all my territories to surprise capture the massive shipyard and its surrounding worlds. These attacks will probably cost half my jumpfleet, but the gains massively outweigh the cost. In six or less turns I can have a solid foothold on the opposite side of the galactic map and steal a major source of Yellow's industry and use it for my own. It won't be quite the decisive blow like surprising Pink's capital was (most of Yellow's fleet is concentrated on their capital), but it'll be an amazing beachhead.
>>525897374Pink's done for.
>>525897359It seems we simply have different perspectives on what cultures are. For me, they're not different characters, more like a phase of my character's life. Someone might have an emo phase, an academic phase, a hipster phase, and so on. And so there might be a Roman phase, a Chinese phase, an Australian phase, etc. As for picking new traits as you progress that gradually shifted the civ's playstyle, that's literally what you do (at least for Humankind, haven't played civ 7). I don't view picking Romans and then China as "I'm the Roman empire and now suddenly everyone in my nation became Chinese", it's "I'm some made up culture that has Roman aspects, and now I've integrated some Chinese aspects".
>>525898345That is a level of abstraction most people just wont do. If you tell someone they are playing as romans most people will think you are playing as romans. Not a culture that is like the romans.
>>525898553I get that, I'm just rambling about personal opinion at this point. Obviously people can abstract enough to not care about how their Romans are making machine guns and airplanes, I hope they can learn to take it another step further.
>>525898896Honestly it just comes off as trying to justify a bad decision on the devs part because you know its weird and giving them an extreme degree of charity by going to that level of abstraction. If they dont mean rome when they say rome why not just say a militaristic expansionist?
>>525899368>If they dont mean rome when they say rome why not just say a militaristic expansionist?Because that's less flavorful and evocative? Plus there's a fair number of different militaristic expansionists, are they going to just get numbered or get increasingly convoluted names?
>>525899763>Because that's less flavorful and evocative?So?
>Plus there's a fair number of different militaristic expansionists, are they going to just get numbered or get increasingly convoluted names? Why would they need to? If militaristic expansionist covers a lot of different civs you can just call call yourself whichever you want. Rome? Zulu? Doesn't matter both are covered.
Paradox keeps descriptions vague in stellaris and people love its empire creator.
>lost 5,413 Hunter Killers (~40% of the fleet)>lost 14,854 Jumpships (~60% of the fleet)Mission accomplished but god damn. I did guess I'd lose half my forces, but fuck it still stings. Although it turns out that the Industrial Complex was like 90% of Yellow's industry, and the damn thing makes over ~2k Hunter Killers and ~4.5k Jumpships per turn. If I can keep it running at good efficiency I'll have replaced my losses in three turns.
>>525897485Turns out one of their fleets managed to take back one of their worlds, but during that same turn two of them revolted. Still a net win for them because they gained a pretty valuable and developed planet, but they're still running on borrowed time.
>>525901450Their only hope is another frontline forcing you to move.
>>525900087>So?I thought roleplaying and storytelling mattered. Stellaris gets to be vague with names because we know of zero spacefaring empires in history. All of them come from fictional media, and the game sure as hell has tons of references to those, it just doesn't use proprietary names. Pretty much every 4x (and gsg) draws on tropes to provide evocative imagery, because like you said a lot of players enjoy the type of story it can help provide. Civ and others like it use historic cultures specifically for that, and those come with free names.

>>525901935Can you explain what difference it makes to roleplaying and storytelling if you create a civ that you think matches rome and play it as rome versus picking a premade civ that is named rome? It's weird you can do some insane abstraction but in this regard you need things directly told to you in order to roleplay.
>>525857083I thought necrophages are kinda fun, enslaving everyone around them to turn into undead, but I cant really figure out how to build them properly.
Blue is no more. I first attacked them on turn 5 and after 37 turns the northern war is finally, truly, finished.
Pink still exists, hanging on through sheer momentum. Their fleets at the start of our war have bought them a few turns of life they wouldn't have had otherwise, and next turn they'll be able to reclaim Halir which had previously declared independence from them. I'm still wary of their sizable Starship fleet, but they're no longer a threat.
Yellow still has all of my attention. It'll take dozens of turns for all my slow fleets to coalesce in their space, but I'm pretty sure that I can have this war ended by the time my own Starships make it over there. After a lot of fierce fighting my Jumpfleet was reduced to 1/5th of what it was when I first attacked Yellow, but my shipyards plus the stolen Industrial Complex have built enough replacements and then some. Once they're all assembled at the Industrial Complex I'll launch a decapitation strike at their capital. Pink's sending fleets away from their homeworld to bolster defenses on their other worlds, which has made it very vulnerable. The fleet that'll take their homeworld will be slightly bigger than the one I used to steal the Industrial Complex, and will also meet far weaker resistance.
As an aside I think I found a quirk in the AI's behavior. I think if you're not "at war" with an AI then they'll generally keep their military centralized to their capital, with the exception of sporadic expeditionary fleets to capture new worlds and occasional stealth raiding fleets. As soon as you're in active "war" with them and steal one of their planets it seems like they create a bunch of fleets to strengthen their other worlds' defenses, basically dividing their strength evenly across their other worlds... Besides their capital, strangely enough.
It's not always true (sometimes the AI sends fleets to reinforce some owned planets when not "in war"), but I think that's what I've noticed throughout this scenario.
>>525908323Just come up with a concept and build an empire that that closely matches it. Stellaris isn't a game for minmax tisms unless you are playing multiplayer.
>>525908323>I want to play necrophages and raise deadYou're mistaking Necrophage (origin) with Reanimators (civic).
Necrophages eat souls of/lay eggs in other species to reproduce. Reanimators are necromancers.
>I don't know how to buildStellaris is an excel game, and it's played like any other excel game. It's about flavor. Make your empire. Press buttons.
If you want to play slaver necromancers, you're not actually looking for the Necrophage origin, even though you CAN do both. From what I can tell, your empire is pretty much authoritarian/xenophobe + maybe militarist with the reanimators and slaver guilds civics.
The point of the game is that you are supposed to want to make "your guys" and the game gives you a lot of options to make that possible. How successful it is varies.
>>525915435Oh yeah, I tried slaver guilds, and for some fucking reason my main pop ends up enslaved.
>>525916086Also, cant figure out how to enslave pre-ftl races. Do you just go at war with them and then just raidbomb them?

>>525916203You should be able to just invade their world with armies.
>>525916086Because Slaver Guilds always demand a percentage of your pop to be slaves, doesn't matter who. It's not complete shit though, a percentage of your pop guaranteed to not matter in the big picture is great.
>>525916086yes that's the point of slaver guilds
>>525916426I looked through those, and didnt see any "never enslave" option.
So I do have to go to war with them. One of them didnt have an option to expose though, maybe because they are in stone age?
>>525916649>>525917619Got it, guess I better play megacorp if I want better slavery, lol.
>>525917816I'm the anon who suggested slaver guilds. Since I never played them, I didn't know about the 35% slave minimum req. If you want to enslave just aliens, you can just play with the xenophobe ethic.

i'm not a speed 5 kind of guy, so i don't care if speed 5 gets laggy
i just care if speed 3 crashes the game
also worth noting is, i haven't played stellaris since before they introduced ships that crack/destroy planets, so it's been over 7 years now
so, is stellaris 4.0 fixed yet? or is it shit?
>>525921576Crashes are mostly fixed. It'll probably be months before bugs and performance are dealt with.

>>525922669I prefer the new mechanics even with the current wonkiness of pops. Since you're probably pirating it anyways I'd say the game is much better than it was in 2017 with all dlcs.
>>525922669>rogue servitor anon hereThe new job system is subjectively better but tends to break. If you play an empire that's pretty vanilla in how pops operate you should be fine in 4.0. >>525923696>Also, Stellaris just has too much DLC at this point.ah okay

Pink is gone. 22 turns after sneak attacking their Capital their final holdouts have been exterminated. The central war is at an and, and it feels good to avenge all my losses when I welped my jumpfleet into one of their minefields way back on turn 2.
While Pink ate shit faster than Blue Yellow's on track to go down even quicker. My high-intensity campaign to steal their Industrial Complex and its supporting worlds resulted in a lot of dissent. While I conquered 5 of their planets, 7 of them had revolutions and became independent.
Best case scenario I mop up Yellow's remnants in roughly four more turns, three if I get lucky and one of their worlds rebels away from them. All said and done the southern war should be have lasted no longer than 20 turns.
And there goes Yellow. 14 turns after tossing half my Jumpfleet into a meatgrinder to capture their Industrial Complex, that same Jumpfleet bolstered by reinforcements made from that stolen Complex conquer their final world. Only non-aligned worlds still stand, most of which were once subjects of the empires I vanquished. The southern war is over, along with all wars among The Four Princes.
Well, there's that scenario done with /civ4xg/. That's 6/18 scenarios done, maybe I'll be able to finish the other 12 some time before the end of this decade.

Guys help me out please.
I'm looking for a turn based 4X strategy game I played around 2002-2004. Kinda similar to Civilization but set in the not so far future (21st or 22nd century) and instead of countries you led one of the opposing economical blocs (south-american, european, asian etc.) Had 2D graphics and pre-rendered cutscenes which played during gameplay (in a window IIRC) and documented stuff happening in the game (one of them I remember depicting rioters destroying and looting Lenin's mausoleum in Russia). I recall it being more economy/admin focused than warfare and one of the game's units was a space shuttle/space plane. Soundtrack featured music I would classify as... Blues (I guess?) and also Folk(?) among others. Was fully localised in polish language.
I tried scouring through the entire internet but to no avail. Wikipedia's list does not have it included oddly enough. Asking ChatGPT, Grok etc. also proved fruitless.
Yes, I am 100% sure I actually played it and it wasn't no fever dream or something of that sort. Don't happen to have any screenshots sadly.

like in Age of Empires 3 you select a new colonial governor for a bonus, but instead it changes the passives, units, buildings, and diplomacy for AI
and if you choose certain leaders you branch into a new culture
like to play as Americans requires to be the english first which requires to be the celts first
and depending on how far back you want you have can have starting "civs" that don't have a named leader (maybe a pseudo historical if wanted) but are the base of each cultural tree
but that would require effort and accepting that humans are more different than is culturally accepted to admit
>>526126589I fully agree that a more "historical" shifting mechanic would be interesting to see, yeah. Though like you said, it'd probably take way more effort since each line would basically be an individual civ so you're whittling down the number of choices instead of adding to them. Having connective aspects like having leaders/governors in order to pick certain cultures would be neat too, I'm not opposed to more interactivity.
How can we make slavery good again?
I'm fucking done, I've been in a decades long war that I just barely can't win because their subject isn't fully occupied by me, because they're occupied by another empire, and they can't end the their war because of my occupation
>inward perfection police state
>find two criminal syndicates
>both of them focus on me even though they barely manage like 3% crime on my capital even with 4 holdings and constantly establish and close down holdings on every other planet
Getting real fucking tired of this bullshit
Surely there's a mod to turn off criminal heritage

>>526137058What anon said. If you can't achieve war goals, just keep stalling the war and claiming. Settle status quo later to cash out. Sometimes you can do century long wars because you're farming influence.
Why do my fleets do this thing where, instead of fighting the enemy fleets in a neat formation according to their computer settings, they charge towards the center of the system, turn around and only then engage the enemy? It's costing me ships.

>>526159631If there was someone genetically Chinese who was adopted as a baby and grew up in Rome with Roman parents who brought them up with Roman culture, are they not Roman? you clearly missed some planets. just bring a bunch of transports and put it on aggressive and it will tag along with your main fleet and automatically invade worlds
>>526271628Does the enemy automatically surrender if you occupy all their planets and systems?
>>526271732just planets is enough, I think. IIRC if you claimed all their planets, just invading all of them is enough to destroy their empire and all of the systems that you didn't claim will turn into unclaimed systems
>>526271628>It only forces status quo.>its irrelevant>this mechanic that can force status quo on player despite massive fucking advantage and success in crushing your enemies>irrelevantI dont think you know what that word means, bro..
>>526271732Yes. Tributary and vassalization assumes you can 100 to 0 them so if you're going for those, then you should be able to occupy everything in the first place and not having problems with WE. Otherwise, just spam status quo.
>>526271994>massive fucking advantage and success in crushing your enemies>can't occupy all their planets>in the extremely long period of time for the WE to tick upskill issue, check your ego buddy
>>526272185So you dont know what it means.
>>526271994If you aren't occupying them then you aren't in a massive advantage. If you are occupying them then there's no problem. User error.
>>526270540Conquer all their planets. That'll work. Not like they can fight back since they're at 100% exhaustion.
>>526272350No amount of user blaming will make it a good mechanic that empire rolling over everything with near zero losses is at the same WE as the one getting utterly and completely curbstomped.
Its just a bad mechanic that really needs rework but then again what in Shitlaris isnt..
>>526272257it's only relevant if you and your enemy are equally matched and it's a tug-of-war to get a definite winner. if you have such "massive advantage" like you claim, just shit out a bunch of transport and put it on aggressive.
you're clearly just seething about your lack of skill buddy, take an ego check and look in the mirror for once
>>526272546>curbstompedclearly not since their planets are all intact.
>>526272546If you aren't occupying them then you just aren't curbstomping them. Space is literally empty and without value.
>>526273267>Space is literally emptyCitation needed.
>>526272801Not really. I had situations where, as i mentioned, i won every battle with near zero losses, occupied 95% of their planets and still had almost the same WE as them.
Its a bad mechanic, deal with it.
>>526273514You don't heal from "war exhaustion" just by beating them or even if you made a comeback, a loss is a loss. If it was really a curbstomp, you wouldn't be having the same WE as them.
What if occupying planets made the war exhaustion increase faster? Like owning 50% of their planets would mean the attrition gets a 150% speed modifier.
Would that be a good change?
>>526273872>made the war exhaustion increase fasterIt already has a better implementation of that, retard. Occupying planets lets you achieve war goals faster. Don't even have to bother with WE at that point.
>stellaris fags defending broken mechanicsTypical, no wonder that game is such a mess.
>>526273872It needs either complexive overhaul to account for multiple factors - the relative size of the losses vs size of the empire, the amount of assets left, capability of said assets etc which wont work becasue nuParadox will never be capable of programming shit like that and make it work.
So they need to go the HOI3 route - just slap 0.0001% increase per day you are at war with some penalties to everything when it reaches certain thresholds.
>refuse to engage in game mechanic

>>526274524to be fair, land warfare is a pretty shitty mechanic and needs a revamp to make it more engaging

All right, did my first skirmish of Tempest Rising.
...it's tough. The AI is good.
The interesting part is that you get a lot of non-combat vehicles and some units are really unique. Like the GDF's drone operator, who is a guy with a long-ranged rifle and a very heavily armored drone.
The AI loves to make 20-30 of these.
The Dynasty (the good guys) main battle tank is the boar.
It looks like a WWII tank. Packs a mean wallop, resist the not-tiberium's debuffs, but is very fragile. Like everything in this game honestly.
After ten minutes of not knowing how to progress, I notice this little button that's needed to reach the second half of the tech tree.
One of my many attacks.
What I'l not realizing is that while I'm blockading two third of the enemy's base, he's building outside.
The dynasty have the MLRS. The best artillery I have seen in a while: they passively charge missiles over time, and then shoot them all at once. Kinda like archers in Warriors Kings who shoots arrows and slowly recover them.
Sadly, my MLRS later die to a mistake: the deployed little MCV you see is actually a salvage/repair deployable building, and I set it to salvage mode, thinking it would get money from nearby destroyed vehicles.
It didn't. Instead, it damages all vehicles in range.
After a few pokes and attacks, I manage to FINALLY destroy the enemy construction yard, thinking the game won already.
Then I realize that while I pushed in, the AI pushed south through my weak blockade, and started to build all over the map out of spite.
What followed was a lot of running after it.
Finally, the last production building is destroyed.
I lose control and the camera moves to it.
45 minutes to kill the Easy AI. On the bright side, I never ran into any money issues, and there are few buildings, so I assume you're meant to make 2-3 vehicles plants instead of just one.
I didn't check it ingame, but I suppose these are the campaign's upgrades, except available in skirmish?
Fuck me, I missed something big then, these are big upgrades.

Stellaris question.
Now that habitats can spam double archive and all three research specialisation buff buildings in main district, is there any point in research deposits (beyond one for +3 building slots) or are bigger systems just better?

>>526532305Or produce both science and unity on one habitat.
iirc unity planet designation will even make it overall more resource efficient (at less total combined output) than research designation. But I might be thinking about old designations.
>>526532640I just looked it up and yes, archives gives you more researcher jobs than the research districts, assuming you have both specializations
>>526532617Doesn't Distant Worlds do a good job at that?
>>526532850nope I'm wrong, the research district can also be specialized, it's more efficient
Holy cow.
They incorporated Supreme Commander's adjacency bonus, with a twist.
Also, Tempest Rising's engineer can repair buildings for free, so... it's not an issue.
>>526532992The beta specialisation converted all researches into one type
The release specialisation merely adds 100 researches of selected type and does not affect jobs in lab buildings
And the specialisation buff buildings can be used simultaneously (at the cost of 3 building slots)
So if you have to choose between MORE generic archive+archive districts or LESS but specialised science districts archives seem to be a better option
>>526535121habitat research districts have the research enclave specialization

So you get 130+30+30 jobs on specialised research district.
Or 40+40+40+80 on double archives. That's 10 more jobs total per habitat size, if you don't disable unity jobs.

Does anyone have experience with the ck2 mod for game of thrones? Got a question about when magic leaves the world.
Basically I did a dance of the dragons start and for some reason I thought "hey if the blacks win crazy fast maybe the dragons will stay around" and for a while they did. The war was over in like a year with minor casualties on my side and my kids kept getting dragons hatched. But now 30 years in no eggs are hatching, is it just set for magic to go at this time? If so when does it come back? Do i just have to wait for the time of the main series (so 150 years in game time roughly) and just hope an egg will hatch? Is there an event I can proc to bring magic back BEFORE all my dragons die out?
you would think they would learn after a while

>>526723267every insight tech gives half an envoy
>>526723267Huh, sounds like a reference to the old Thrawn Trilogy from Star Wars EU (Legends, not Disney). Part of Thrawn's intellectual-ness is analyzing a species' art to obtain a thorough understanding of their psyche, and from there he's able to form overwhelming successful strategies and tactics against his enemies based on how their specific species would react.
The Thrawn Trilogy is touted as one of the peaks of the old EU, but never forget that Star Wars and sci-fi can be super retarded.
>>526724367How much stellaris do I have to play to gain +10% damage against swedes?
>>526723267It's a star wars reference, like anon said. As for half an envoy, yeah you need to get more techs to use that. It's meant to encourage you to stay consistent and get multiple of those techs, you're meant to stack them and it's fairly easy to do so if you're doing it with intent.
Can we discuss xcom here or is there another thread for games like that? I checked so idk if i'm retarded.

never played aurora 4x but i can imagine that this is what lies right next to it
that or dwarf fortress when it was at its most original form and only used ascii (never played that either so feel free to correct me and call me a moron for suggesting it)
in stellaris, do ai empires ALWAYS end up getting their signal picked up on my contacts list, allowing me to decipher their language and coming into diplomatic contect with them BEFORE my science ships venture close to them, or can some ai empires simply stealth their way into not being picked up at all (not becoming "psi menace", "gamma menace", "epsilon menace", etc.) until i finally run my science ships near their borders?
>>526934428I believe you have to detect them (and vice-versa) to start a first contact procedure, so you could hypothetically have a cloaked science ship scouting them
>>526935161oh, alright

i wouldn't call it 'deeper', i'd just call it 'more fun' because it hits enough of the right spots (mount and blade in space + lots of other cool stuff because of mods) that it makes stellaris look like a well-crafted but tiny home, an irrelevant affair
unfortunately a heavily modded game like starsector comes with its defects, in that it stands like a house of cards and chugs with a bunch of gigs of memory depending on how many mods you glue to it

is there a way to shift my empire's "fanatic xenophobe" ethic to its "non-fanatic" variant? without using console commands or seeking special events, i mean
just, you know, manipulating enough pops into abandoning the specific ethic that the game has listed my empire as being fanatic of
is this possible?

do i have to boot them out to make sure it happens?
>>526982425Intended way is by promoting/suppressing factions

>you need to reduce your empire's xenophobe attraction so that when you shift ethics, you shift out of f. xenophobe and not out of whatever your second ethic is.>embracing your second ethic is the easiest way to do thisi currently have my spirituality faction embraced, and all other factions suppressed, in this screenshot
percentages are still in the process of changing i guess, it's not like i've been waiting 30 in-game years since i made a shroudwalker teacher/psionic/spiritualist become my core sector's governor
i also have 4 other spiritualists in administration (2 of them which are governing my other 2 sectors and the other 2 spiritualists which are governing planets directly)
however there is a certain xenophobe paragon running one of my 3 most populated planets, not sure if i should remove him temporarily and take a further hit on the economy

all of my "banner of triumph" faction are militarists and i need them to convert to a purely supremacist party
same with "true democracy center", but the 6 pops in that are insignificant to me as far as their unhappiness penalty is concerned
"committee of united scientists" is in the process of becoming just as minor as the TDC
the "PPB" seems like the only major thing i need to focus on stripping most of the issues to red so most of their bloc disperses
i could redden one of the CoUS/materialist issues, but the other one has to remain because my current ruler (who is an immortal) will only be dismissable if i force election or wait until mandatory election in year 2280

>>526988948>and you'll be f. spiritualist/xenophobei actually don't want this

Someone needs to play Sacrifice and tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Does the X series belong in here (x3, x4 etc)? Was looking through the catalogue and couldn't find any posts relating to X4 foundations.
>>527038215Is it strategy? Might be more /indie/ otherwise
>>527038629It's spehs sim with focus on base building, resource gathering, and fleet command. It's a pretty established franchise so I was surpised that there wasn't a /vg/ thread dedicated to it. Technically it does hit the four x's (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate), even if it isn't officially labeled as a 4x.
>>527019831>Someone needs to play Sacrifice and tell me what I'm doing wrong. What is it you think you're doing wrong? It's fairly straightforward: spawn minions, kill, gather souls, spawn more minions.
>>527038215>Does the X series belong in here (x3, x4 etc)?Yes.
>>527039720I tried that, and what happens is that I lose every engagement. The AI runs into me with superior numbers, seem to kill my creatures instantly while mine struggle to make a dent, and while I can recover souls, the enemy gets experience and outtech me.
>>527042592If the ai starts off with more numbers it's best to bait him close to one of your manaliths. Set a couple of minions on defens at the manalith and take a couple of fast unit towards the enemy group. Agro them back to the manalith and take a stand there.
Also take note of the unit he's using; if he has mostly melee units, build more flyers. If he's using mostly flyers, focus on misile. If he's mostly misile, focus melee. It's all about trying to counter what the enemy ai is focusing on.
>>527043716It's skirmish mode, so I assume he's just quicker at converting souls. But from the sound of it, I should prepare my army based on his.
I need to go home and try again.
Do you suggest using the guardian spell, the manual suggested to avoid relying on it...
It would be nice if the AI didn't blatantly give itself gold to fund its wars.
>>527054197Can't think of any 4x where the AI doesn't cheat, it's expected at this point.
>>527044585As a rule of thumb I always push out a couple of melee units as meatshields, and then try to match or counter what the AI is pushing out 1:1, so lets say that he pushes with 2 flyers and 3 melee I'd match with 2 missile and 3 flyers (missile targeting his flyers and my flyers targeting his melee). Alternatively if you can push out more numbers than the AI you can match his unit types and let your melee attack his melee etc. The key is just to not let your units be attacked by whatever type it is the most weak to.
Concerning spells they are generally best reserved for when you need to turn the tide of a skirmish. Mana is fickle because you have to rely on your manalings, which each take up one soul that could be used elsewhere. Think of spells like your ult in Leuge of Legends; it's pivotal in specific moments but it's not spamable.
>>527065447>manalingsMeant Manahoars, those starter minions that gives your summoner mana.
>>527019831I mean you could say who you're playing with and against what. Also play the campaign you french weirdo if you need a tutorial.
>>527056667AI wars is pretty fair if only because the AI doesn't need to cheat. Imperialism series by SSI is also pretty fair, what's more it's perfectly viable to expand so fast the AI starves trying to trade you for scraps.
>>527065447I see. Sounds like learning to assign different groups is not optional after all.
>>527056667IMO more modern games (ES2, SOASE 2, even Stellaris) hide AI cheats a bit better. Far as I can tell, Civ V AI just adds a big integer to its gold stockpile to keep itself in the black, which means that it never really feels like the AI feels the pain of overstretched their unit caps and GPT deficits.
>>527076219>Stellaris>hide AI cheatsAI does not "cheat" as in maphack or similar, but the game difficulty slider is simply a multiplier to AI economic and combat stats.
AI is already too dumb to live on x1 difficulty, and the default setting is giving bonuses to player, not to AI.

>>527134135Who knows?
There was some talk from the dev team that their Russian bosses didn't pay them during later few months of the development, before everyone just walked out.
Pic related was the last person they hired to their team few months before it all went down, their community manager.
>>527134925Bet you this bitch stole the money and ran.
>>527135271>>527134925Fucking hell that beak..
Early Life for sure.
>>527139662One if these dei who steals money but it's okay, it's to support minorities (ximself).
>>527143916Ha, I see. The sons of David..
>>527065447>Think of spells like your ult in Leuge of Legends; it's pivotal in specific moments but it's not spamable.Wait, you blokes do mean Mandalore's game, right? You can't spam magic in it?
>find a blog about Sacrifice >check >"bla bla charnel's melee units take 6x damage from fliers instead of 4x as anyone else"Oh for fuck's sake, they're hard counters, like in AoE2!
>>527151379Yes. I assumed you'd just get more spells as you level up, but I was wrong.
>>527166317El Presidente!
New game from Frostunk creators is launching tomorrow.

https://www.metacritic.com/game/the-alters/
>It blends elements of survival, adventure, and base-building, focusing on the player's need to clone themselves to survive on a hostile planet and build a base to escape. The game centers around the narrative of Jan Dolski, a sole survivor of an ill-fated space expedition, and his "alter" versions, each with their own skills and personalities
>>527166317Good standing with the communists and the capitalists at the same time? I really liked the different ages in tropico 5 but they should have stopped at the cold war era. In that multipolar world small states could have a bigger role because they could try to play both sides. Other powers can only really invade you if you really screw things up but they don't have other means to really cause trouble for you which is also a bit of a letdown.
>>527170303>and his "alter" versionsEh, clones. Even in sci fi people are boring and all they do is clones or robots or AI.
Never proper transhumanism.
>>527170303>Horatio?Also
>everything thing is personal here>let them fulfill some personal needs>life isn't all about workThe game spans only 3 days. Wouldn't you be able to set some things aside for 3 days if it's about survival?
>>527182726Its old screenshot but iirc i just tried to appease them both, mostly running with bit of social services and strong industry..
>>527182726Yeah i wish they expanded on Cold War, the very essence of Banana Republic vibe. Modern times are kinda meh.
>>527184614>Modern times are kinda meh.Yeah I think so too. It was already kinda meh in 4 and 5 brought nothing new to the era's specifically. Colonial era could also be more interesting too, caribbean islands were economic powerhouses in the 17th and 18th century. The game starts off in a 19th century themed colonial era. I think the vibe in 4, 5 and 6 is a bit too much the silly jokes and the game would be better if you had some more limitations arround a couple of playstyles. It's too easy to keep everyone happy.
>>527185346Yeah. Instead of adding modern and WW2 periods they should really expand HEAVY on both colonial and Cold Era ones.
And fix the atrocious combat.
>>527184614>>527185346>>527185591what I dislike the most about 5 and 6 is that they focused too much on modern, nice stuff. I want to make an impoverished caribbean shithole, not some technocratic island paradise
>>527188254Yeha. I kinda wish they would make it a bit more serious and detailed too. I know the caricature with El Presidente and whacky events is part of the charm but a good, deep realistic sim of running Banana Republic with guerillas, KGB/CIA fucking around, detailed economy and warfare would be cool.
>>527158919>Oh for fuck's sake, they're hard counters, like in AoE2!AoE2 lives in your soul.
>click red death on the menu
>get put in a game for the pirates shit instead
come on civ 6 work with me here
I think I restarted Anno 1800 like 8 times. And I don't discard a 9th.
>>527190671The things I would do to Nahida.
>>527197518She's only for spanks.
How do we bring soul back into the civ/4x genre?
>>527209009By spending less on e-competition and more on... Music, voice acting, writing.
>>527039478>>527039075 x4 has come a long way from x2
>lithoid hive mind
>life seeded
>every planet other than my home has 50% habitability which is bearable until I unlock mutagenic habitability from genetic ascension and can get 100% habitability on any planet
Should be a decent build, right?
>>527237217Sounds like Stellaris isn't balanced for multiplayer if you can do shit like this.
give it up for day 14, day 14 everyone!
>>527237513>Sounds like Stellaris isn't balanced
>>527241582it's true though.
>>527251809>>527266035all civilizations eventually collapse
>>526491264>>526491914>>526502347Nta but as the models have gotten better I find it harder and harder to distinguish slop from real art. At the very least many pron models have gotten to the point where it's starting to impact many commission artist's bottom line. I can't wait to see how the animators will sperg now that video generation is becoming a thing.
>>527272939it's sad but also funny at the same time
>>527273946not enough fingers, where's my seven finger abominations?
Fucking hell Tempest Rising is fun. I keep noticing new buttons I did spot earlier.
Buggies aren't like the GLA's buggies, but they're still extremely good. Just fragile.
Also autosage, someone who isn't obsessed with my butt please make the new thread.
Man, missiles in this game just... look sad. Against, they look more like bolts out of a Warhammer 400000 bolter than a missile.
>missiles troopers get one veterancy
>no more HP
...?
What do veterancy do? Just deal more damooge?
