After the siege Hans tells Jitka’s uncle he totally can’t be married until the king is free, Bohemia is at peace, and preferably never at all, but Hanush in secret effectively threatens him that he can kiss his inheritance goodbye if he tries to refuse. Hans plans to take Henry to his sex den anyway, hopefully for months, and says they’re gonna figure it out how to make their relationship work despite him being forcibly sold into marriage.

You just get told the whole thing by Zizka in a single moment in between actually important story beats, as if the writers just had no idea when would it be an appropiate moment to reveal it so they just shoved it in there towards the end. I get that she herself isn't the type to talk about past traumas but I dunno, I think something else could have come out of it, as it is her romance feels more like Henry and her having a fling to deal with the stress and fear than a genuine relationship, even though they could have very easily bonded over having essentially the same backstory.

That's not how it works, anon. Sequels tend to be front-loaded because more people preorder them knowing what to expect. After the initial launch window, the sales curve goes down and from then onwards the sales spikes happen only during deep discounts. The Warhorse CEO said they're still high above the expected curve, meaning they're still selling far more than they had thought they would. It's a huge success by any reasonable metric, especially given its significantly older target audience.

According to multiple devs and even the Warhorse CEO, they just wanted a game about Czech history with no magic or dragons. That was the sticking point and the reason why publishers kept rejecting them. Even Vavra, when he was retelling the story recently, said that every publisher pitch was basically “yeah, looks interesting, but why don’t you add magic there to make it fun”, which they didn’t want to for obvious reasons. The kickstarter was designed as a way to show the moneyed sponsors and publishers that there’s a general interest in this “history game with no magic” concept and the game won’t be an automatic mega bomb as the publishers feared. It worked and kickstarter gave them about 1 million euro. With this they managed to attract the interest of Czech financier and investor Zdeněk Bakala, who bought Warhorse and gave them most of the remaining 20 million euro to complete the project.
In 2019, shortly after the KCD1 release, Bakala sold Warhorse to the Austrian Koch Media group (Deep Silver) for 42 million euro while making a nice profit, and the rest is history.
The project was never, at any point, “pitched to attract chuds” or whatever other fantasy they tell themselves to feel relevant. They started to imagine KCD1 as some saviour of the trad white christfags after the terminally online Vavra got into a hissy fight with a few American gaming journos over the possibility of racial minorities existing in rural Bohemia in 1403, but the sheer retardation of their whining today (“you desecrated a Christian game!”, “sex with Hans is pedophilia!”) shows abundantly clear they have never bought KCD1 despite allegedly being its fans, let alone played it.

Summer Game Fest just showed it among the top selling games for the year currently. Warhorse made their development cost back not even a week after release. They announced they're opening another office and currently working on two projects at the same time. Suffice to say KCD2 was a success.

Longswords are absolutely the best weapon class in KCD2. Everything else is still viable, but it's clear the combat was designed around longswords above all else. Combat balance in KCD1 is better overall. Combat in general is probably better overall in the first game (I'm currently replaying it after finishing KCD2 several times). Shortsword and shield is very strong in KCD2 too though, because you can still master strike. Assuming you're proficient at, and decently leveled at, combat in either game, every weapon is always viable. The gap between longswords and everything else is much greater in KCD2 though. Play what feels good and is fun to you. Nothing is "unusable" in either game, unless you completely neglect leveling it until late game.

Early game fights are lethal in general. I'm replaying it after finishing 2 several times and I'm being reminded just how steep the combat curve is. It's pretty beautiful though. I can understand from a narrative, thematic (avoiding combat is usually the best choice), and accessibility perspective why the combat in KCD2 is different (easier) but "gitting gud" at KCD1 combat is incredibly satisfying. The fact that even a 2v1 against low level bandits can be incredibly difficult for the first 10-20 hours of the game ramps the immersion up hard. Henry is a blacksmith's apprentice who struggles to chop a stick in half cleanly at the beginning of the game. He has to actually work at this even if he clearly has natural talent.

Understand that quest related combat interactions are meant to be very difficult in the first act of the game. Random road encounters are often even more difficult at that stage. If you’re Catholic or a lukewarm Hussite and you’re faced with the choice of either accepting Sigismund or declaring a war against the Catholic Europe and fighting alongside these guys, then Sigismund can easily be viewed as the lesser evil. Plus there were suspicions of behind the scenes pressure/blackmail from his neighbours, as other posters have suggested.

The ledetchko revenant mission is funny but it's also probably more out of character for henry to do some of the stuff in there, like poisoning the well with rotten eggs in particular is kind of wild when an entire 'plague' happened in the main quest due to the bandits dropping a corpse in a well

In terms of a feudal power structure, Hans is higher up than Hanush, but there are a bunch of people above him in the totem pole until you reach the king and to disobey your liege lord means harsh punishments and possibly death. Hans also had a son not long after the events of the game, who irl is called "Hynce Ptáček", which is roughly the equivalent of the name Henry lol
Real hans signed a declaration in support of the hussites shortly after his own conflict with them, so it's entirely possible that he fought one or two battles and switched sides like happens a few times in the game, when things got a little safer
Hynce was technically a sigismund supporter, but he was notable for complaining about him, and doing things like, when sent to a siege, requesting sigismund give him more money and soldiers to avoid participating in the siege, despite his forces having heavy artillery available the whole time that could've instantly flattened the castle, and only actually attacking when sigismund sent a hungarian knightly force to 'assist'. Hynce is most notable for leading a political group, where when he passed, his successor, George, became the leader, and then only a short while later George became king of bohemia

How do you deal with the "difficulty" spike in KCD2 when you get to the second region?
my stats are nearly maxed out, but two vs one fights in Opatowitz are nearly impossible. its just constant and infinite block & counter. henry's attacks seem a bit to slow to reliably master strike. the enemies in this region just tank everything. ive clear the place out once before by stabbing everyone in the back, and going through a lot of poisoned arrows. They are both nobles, both orphans, both grew up in a world of pretence and superiority, but where Istvan decided to embrace nihilism and see the worst in the world, Hans is caring and idealistic, and the hardship he endured in KCD2 only made him a better person.

You know for a game with so much christfaggotry, I don't remember encountering a single nun in either game. If they wanted to write a prominent female character, the easiest way to do it was by making one that was a religious figure. The games joke that joining a nunnery was a sort of punishment for women, but nuns were really the "get out of jail free card" for women in the middle ages. Nuns didn't have to deal with arranged marriage or childbirth, were educated, and people treated them with respect. Guess the devs couldn't deal with a female character with significant screentime if Henry absolutely can't have sex with her.

i think while i still like kcd1 a lot, kcd2 has made its shortcomings a bit clearer, in just how much things do start to fall apart near the end. it's not a huge deal since, hey, they were doing what they could with what they had and it's not unusual for a big rpg to fall apart near the end, the fact that kcd2 simply has such a kino final stretch just makes it go beyond in a major way
here's hoping kcd3 is just as much of a step up though obviously if it's just as good then it'll still be one of the best rpgs ever

kcd1 is purely about who henry is and his origin story, the bigger politics are set up for sequel. The epilogue was like an elaborate post credit scene to make you go 'wait theres more??' I personally like it, it makes sense, it makes henrys story more cohesive and contained, and he is relaxed enough for new missions andn info dump. But yeah agree with pryb, in the end its just a self contained DLC
