Honestly this director nailed it. In every other souls dodging was always the best method to avoid damage. But Guardians active blocking and Executors variation of parrying are peak and so well designed. This is the first time I've actually enjoyed parrying especially since it works against everything.

Especially once I got these three together, never need to leave cursed sword mode.

The full game plus dlc is your regular $60usd. Real good deal. You won't complete it in 5 hours. It's fairly linear and straight forward though, but there's multiple endings and extras for NG+, and NG+2 (maybe NG+3, but I haven't checked/don't remember)

Well, I've managed to run it with DSfix w/o crashing outright, but now I have to fix the game running in small window in the upper right corner of the screen while UI is rendered in proper 1080p resolution. Also, good God, this is probably the laziest console port I ever saw.

Mangohud can limit FPS by setting a variable "MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=X" when running a game. Had to use it on idTech 4 engine games (like Quake 4 and Prey), because in those game speed is directly tied to FPS, and it was intended to be 62.5 (while on modern hardware you can easily push 400+, which makes you essentially teleport when you move).

It's closer to Wo Long than Nioh. You can do pretty good damage, but it's lower than the kind of damage you can do in Nioh because they want you parrying more. So most fights are usually just you reacting to attacks and perfect blocking.

I found it pretty boring though because it's all based on historical events and because of that, there is almost no variety in enemy encounters. They tried to mix it up by making each boss have their own unique moveset, which you yourself can usually get a variant of (to a lesser degree), but outside of bosses, every enemy is a basic human with a few different weapons. And the world feels very much like a Ubisoft title. Lots of things to collect. They mix it up so it's not just collect 10 points of interest, each one usually being it's own mini game, like there are say, 5 Bandit Camps you need to clear, find 10 cats, take 10 pictures of specific locations, go to 8 points of interest, pray at 10 shrines etc. etc. But it's still pretty bland and gets old fast.
I mostly enjoyed it for the weapons and combat because at the end of the day, if you like Nioh or Team Ninjas other games, it still feels like that and a lot of the weapons and combos feel really nice. So you might like it based on that alone.
But that only goes so far imo.

Just finished watching these vids to wet my appetite before I hop back into my playthrough. If you like exploring an interesting world and seeing weird stuff I'd say you'll get some satisfaction playing Lies of P. It's not as robust as Dark Souls's seamless level interconnectivity (the game is extremely linear), but the city of Krat has an amazing atmosphere to get lost in. The main story is easy to follow and the game gives you easy hints to discover all the various character side quests. If you're looking for an interesting world to explore with weird stuff to see, you can't go wrong with Lies of P

Unfortunately not really liking Nioh 3 so far, which is funny since I remember thinking we dodged a bullet when Yasuda said that after Team Ninja scrapped their co-op NG-esque version of Nioh and went back to the drawing board, they were considering making it a "contemporary" open world game. Rise of the Ronin has the same problem - for everything right it does, it's gimped by following the same generic boring Ubisoft template we've seen dozens of times. Plus Rise of the Ronin had very patchy performance and that was even with Sony XDEV doing a lot of the grunt work. Nioh 3 runs like crap and they don't have Sony codemonkeys on board this time.

sword is kinda the jack of all trades.
it's good for breaking horns, and the kick and ki explosion thing do very good stamina damage but that's about it.
it's great against human enemies because of sheathe+iai and the timed block that knocks enemies to the ground where you can get iai followups

kusarigama shits out regular damage with high stance light attack and reaper

personally i've always leaned more on odachi tonfas and later on fists but there's no true silver bullet.

no reason to limit yourself to any one weapon type

It might be your build, sometimes it can feel like a build takes a while before truly coming online. If you're using the stun baton you're not really "pure" strength. That's more of an arcane/advance weapon with its status effect proc. Start using the wrench or slap that wrench head on a handle you like and get bigger numbers that way. Also don't forget to upgrade your weapon. That's where a lot of your damage can come from

i'm basically doing 0 dex 0 arcane, and then the other stats a somewhat even spread, and the baton has been serving me well.

Elemental damage type is goated against its respective enemy type. If the stun baton is working for you I say stick with it. You could probably have the elements proc more often if you level up your advance a bit, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you like the shock stick head you might be able to put it on a longer handle

You have more concentrated enemy placement compared to Basegame, as in the same tight groups but with more damage/health on par/exceeding the usual goons at the Archeabbey. You can absolutely be two or three shot especially if you enter it right after Chapter 9 instead of after finishing the game. It feels like the sections between Stargazers/shortcuts are a bit longer now so this DLC is overall fairly difficult in comparison to basegame. I like it, the new weapons make up the difference very feasibly.

Beyond that you have minor camera problems with the 1st and 3rd boss (moreso the 3rd due to his size) and some people are bitching about a Stalker fight because he heals once (they cannot envision that without it they'd just have given him more health)

I managed to reduce the latency by a little bit doing tweaks like forcing V-Sync off, and it's made a difference between dying to a boss 50 times to beating it in a few tries.

If you have the master key you can just take the elevator down and fight Quelaag right after arriving at Firelink. But assuming I'm not playing on an older console where the frame rate is a disaster, it’s an area that I adore. I generally don’t do this. Nor do I recommend that shortcut to new players(not saying you are one). It’s best to experience Blighttown as intended before deciding whether or not they hate it (they probably will, but it’s a good thing)

I hear a lot of bad things about Nioh 1, is it recommended to start with that or Nioh 2?

The combination of playing Nightreign and Code Vein 2 announcement put me in the mood to play the original again and all I can say is, holy shit I forgot how slow this game can be. Just going from point a to point b feels like walking through molasses and healing is agonizing even out of combat.
Doesn't help I also just did a playthrough of Sekiro though.
