I'm playing Fallout 4 for the first time in my life and I'm enjoying so far. It's doesn't have the same charm as as the classics Fallouts but it's a fun game still.

I don't think that e.g the lighting problems are a limitation of the engine, but probably, of the current development team's lacking talent.
to make fo4 look good you need to switch off TAA and use 2.5x the resolution.

And of course 4 turns the crashes into a gameplay meta; if you find a great legendary on survival it's a race to save before the game eats it
Disclosure: I didn't play 76 at launch when apparently it was the worst shitheap of all, but the number one priority must have been getting it running ironclad (even at the expense of everything else) because nobody wants a multiplayer game to crash

I'm reading a alot about divining the position of the reel before you start the reeling process and this leads me to believe we could actually get a nice mod to straight up forecast where we need to move our starting position before engaging, thereby dabbing on those fucking teleporting fish.
I've already looked at the interfaces code and know it sends the current position only so its pretty much a matter of reading that and the current phase 'bobbing' to display an on screen hint.
The next step after that would be transmitting joystick/mouse input to match where it is automatically but thats a semi-automatic mod as opposed to a forecast.
Someone mod fishing into FO4 instead. I really like fishing mini-games and Fantasy Life has a nice sandbox system that encourages you to learn different lifeskills that mesh well with each other. I hope FO5 is 12 times as big as FO76's map size with lots of things to fish. Different breeds of fish with different types of aquariums as well...hmmm...fishing...

I'm sorry if this starts a shitshow or if the question is stupid, but I'm at a bit at the crossroads on this: do you think that people like current Fallout for it being Fallout or for the type of sandbox experience it provides? I finally decided to give 4 a shot and, while so far nothing has particularly caught my attention in any significant way, be it plot-wise or even just the setting itself, I mostly see its merits boil down to it being a big sandpit where you can kinda just go wherever you want and do whatever you like, which is kind of what Bethesda's strength and main focus is currently. But everything else? It feels like a bit of an afterthought. I think they kind of did well in distancing themselves from heavy RPG mechanics and focusing more on the action too because I'm starting to think they wouldn't do those any justice. I dearly miss the sheer stupidity and diversity of things you can do in Morrowind, but I don't know if they'd be able to pull such a charming game off ever again. Sorry for turning this into a rant, but it feels like I'm either missing something or I'm overthinking things. What do (You) think?

Most seem to use feral mode for the melee damage and thats about it.
its critical flaw is that its spent too easily and charged too slowly, if you aren't chugging toxic water/goo you're just topping yourself off with cannibalism, theres a perk to reclaim some from attacking with melee but not enough you can sustain using it for damage.
In a nuke zone though you're basically immortal, but passive rad intake is shit even with perks, which loops back into the problem of keeping it up.

Honestly that whole stretch of road is just one giant clusterfuck for people heading from the Mojave outpost
First you have scorpions and ants, then Powder Gangers past Primm, and then at the split at Jean you get to pick between Cazadores on one road past Goodsprings, and then on the other you get to choose between Super Mutants (Tabitha and co) and Deathclaws.
They're kind of forced to go on the other route, and THEN they have to deal with the Legion, who by the events of the game have things pretty well in hand. Nipton is razed and Searchlight is nonfunctional, giving Legion raiding parties pretty much free reign.

That whole stretch of road to the west up to the Mojave outpost (iirc NPC Legion raiders will literally spawn and attack NCR traders there) and to the North up to Novac (Boone and Manny sniping). The NCR Ranger outpost out there provides some resistance, but iirc it gets wiped out in game.

glow can be a bit of a bitch to manage and right now funnels you towards chugging sewerage and using Gamma gun which feels bad (the direct hit damage is fine but the AoE just seems to desync from server and not do shit to enemies + no mag mods).
melee/feral is... fine. but now you're waiting out a timer (1-2 hours?) for your character to be enabled, can't touch chems, and guns are basically unusable.
i like the fantasy, but gameplay is kind of a chore with barely worth it upsides.

the problem is the good stuff that is "worth" grinding for is obscured behind lists of nondescript [Plans] with no details in game. and most of the best stuff is even further hidden behind Rep. you'd have to accidentally grind to full rep and accidentally spend thousands of bullion to discover something that you love and makes the grind all worth it - without pouring over out of game resources.
