Hes not playing an engine. Hes playing some rando who was only freshly made a gm. Theres plenty of tricks available and theres only 1 hour left. If there were 2 hours then sure magnus might have a hard time but with only an hour left, that black guy hes playing against aint leaving with a win. This is a draw with perfect play.

Magnus is probably not very happy. Winning tournaments is simply not enough these days. He won all tournaments a billion times. He's considered the GOAT by many, including the world's best players. It's only winning by a wide a margin that matters these days, and it wasn't the case during this tournament.

He never won the candidates, so he can't really say that. He was always stopped by other players along the way to the world championship. Hell, he only made it ONE time to the candidates pre 2020s. He was also ranked nr 2 for a VERY brief period. It's only recently that he skyrocketed again to the 2800s and nr 2, and he's old and at the end of his career, so he probably won't capitalize on it. Players like Caruana, Nepo, or Aronian (despite Aronian not winning the candidates) could claim that, not Hikaru.
>>526440976
He won a small handful of speed chess events that magnus played in, with Carlsen winning everything else. When you look at the amount of world rapid and blitz championships, Carlsen has a shit ton. Hikaru has none. Their "rivalry" is played up by chesscom and chess youtubers to build hype, but they aren't at all competitive.

Tourist /pol/cels aside

Rankings might paint a different picture but Gukesh came close to winning the whole thing in one of the toughest tournaments in a while.

What he should take away from this is - he is more than capable of beating any of the top players and he needs to work on his opening preparation. With more preparation he would have won many games outright instead of showing his class in time troubles. Magnus and Fabiano were not worthy opponents for him and yet it appears as if Gukesh was lucky against them. In fact their opening preparation could only take them so far

So by that logic no current top player's opinion matters on who the GOAT is, because you can't discount the possibility that they just want to make themselves feel better, if they choose Carlsen. Similarly, no top chess player of the past active during Kasparov's reign can claim that Kasparov is the GOAT for similar reasons. I think that's retarded. The guys who understand the game the best still are the most qualified to speak on it, even if there's a possibility of a bias. I'll take Hikaru's word over the word of a random IM.

FWIW there was a tournament recently where they went around asking people who the GOAT is. The only people saying Magnus were his friends and associates like Jordan van Foreest and Dubov. Everyone else said either Kasparov or Fischer. The fact is that outside Magnus’s friends it’s not a common opinion that he’s the GOAT, but he is often promoted as such due to recency bias to casuals

Link it. Were those the top players or some randoms? Judging by the fact that they were asking van Foreest and Dubov, I'll hazard a guess that those weren't the top players. Also, if you want to go just by objective strength, then it's clearly Magnus who's the GOAT, simply because he lives in the times of extremely strong chess engines and more globalized competition. I'd say that even today's top players not on Carlsen's level would smoke prime Garry or Fisher. And that's not really a controversial opinion. It's just that objective strength isn't the only things that's taken into account in the GOAT discussion.

You have no understanding of how chess works. To be at the top today, you have to know all the things people like Kasparov of Fisher demonstrated during their games. If you tried to play just using ideas like theirs today, when people use engines to prepare extremely deep opening ideas, you'd be fucked in today's top competitions. That shit simply doesn't work anymore. And the talent pool today is much much greater, because chess is much more popular, so all the people at the top are insanely talented. It's not like back in the day, when only the Soviets played the game seriously. The field was simply much weaker due to that fact alone.

He was busted for half of it. It was nowhere near an "all-time". His best game during this tournament was his first one against Gukesh. They both played perfectly right until the end, where Gukesh made one mistake allowing Carlsen to win in a very beautiful fashion. The beauty of that game got overshadowed by Carlsen's uncharacteristic throw during their second encounter.

aerdna dropped his lichess username in the thread. (You can verify this with the archive, aerdna69)
The lichess account can be linked to both his reddit account with the same username (where he is a r/chess regular) and his chesscom account (don't remember how.)
He's italian, and the fide rating he put in his lichess profile is one point away from the rating of an italian player named Andrea Nerla, whose age also matches aerdna's revealed age on reddit.
aerdna is the name Andrea spelled backward.
The reddit account also gives numerous details of his life and his location, pictures of his apartment, etc.
I believe there are more connections, but I wasn't the doxing anon and I'm just explaining very basic facts off the top of my head

That's what gets me about it. I assumed it was because I was getting old and "new=bad", but I don't care anywhere near as much about super GM tournament chess like I once did. As soon as Naka/Carlsen/Caruana retire, I doubt I'll keep up with it at all.

There are quite a few GMs who did 2500 rating, obtained the norms and title then never did anything of note again. I'd call those the resume GMs. Their norms (performance criteria for the title) were obtained in questionable tournaments where money is known to have changed hands in exchange for favorable outcomes. That's not a conspiracy mind you, it's fact. There are legitimate GMs who have been caught and banned for cheating in OTB tournaments as well.

d4 players want to suck their thumb and rotate knights around the board for 65 moves. Play the grunfeld and make the game a mess for everyone. Its like being the passenger in a car driven at 80+mph by a blind guy. d4 cucks do not want that

Yes, 5k isn't a lot even by chess standards, but he's done it quite a few times now, and some of those matches had some production value behind them, which also costs money. Very chuddy, but the Lasker specifically is the chuddiest QGD imo. Semi-slav is also quite chuddy.
Overall I'd say against d4 you're approaching chuddy territory if you're not in a rush to play c5 or e5. Feld is chaddy, not chuddy.

Can't force a QGD. If you immediately go 1.d5 you get Londoned, if you try to go for the Nimzo and transpose to QGD after 3.Nf3 you get forced into a Catalan after g3.
If you really want to make d4 players mald play 1.e6. If 2.e4 just go for the French, if 2.c4 play d5 and you're in QGD without any faggy transpositional tricks so you can pick your line. If they play random shit like 2.Nf3 or 2.Bf4 just play c5 and since you've alreafy played e6 they can't go for the Benoni with d5.

They also won't refund your points if your rating is higher than it was before you played the cheater.
Their argument is that your rating will go back up to what it was before anyways because you'll be facing generally weaker opponents.

Not exactly in that it doesn't appear to be based on time elapsed. From what I understand, lichess' point refund system depends on how your rating has changed since the loss to the cheater took place. I think. This is why sometimes it gives you a partial refund or no refund at all when you get the rare 'a person you reported was banned' message. And I know it's a cheat when I get that message as I don't report other players for any other reason.

Not even a week. 5 days

>When am I eligible for the automatic rating refund from cheaters?

One minute after a player is marked, their 40 latest rated games in the last 5 days are taken. If you were their opponent in one of those games, you lost rating (because of a loss or a draw), and your rating was not provisional, you get a rating refund. The refund is capped based on your peak rating and your rating progress after the game. (For example, if your rating greatly increased after that game, you might get no refund or only a partial refund.) A refund will never exceed 150 points.

Those are regular games. Just because they aren't the mainlines of the mainlines doesn't mean they aren't legitimate openings that you can just steamroll over.
Swallow your pride, learn a little two knights and wayward queen theory and pay attention to where you blundered tactics.

It's just a rite of passage on the learning curve. Don't worry so much about when exactly it will go away. Just learn how to use the tempi they're giving you to get a development lead. This is not auto win for you. These openings are more or less sound. If you're playing in to the actual two knights defense and allowing Ng5, review the options available to you in this move order. It's not required that you allow this at all. After 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 you have Be7 or d6 or Bc5 or f5!! or g6 etc. All of these have theory.

Unironically it kinda is. Once you get past a certain rating you start seeing mostly established theoretical openings.
But you have to earn the right to face them. The good news is that you have chess principles on your side against those bad openings. Learn the principles and learn the specific bad openings you face until you stop losing to them. Then you can move on to more regular games.

Thanks. Typically against the fianchetto’d black kingside you do want to pawn storm when the opportunity presents itself, black was hasty to castle and should have maintained flexibility while he improved his position and started trying to undermine white first. When he castled in that particular position there’s nothing else happening on the board so I can start pressuring his king immediately and he has nowhere to go. I misplayed it after, (taking the bishop with Nxe6) I should have continued pawn storming and he would have been fucked. Black is supposed to be more cagey and slippery in these positions, instead he planted his feet in a worse position and I could just hammer him. I hope that makes sense.

I had my first over the board tournament last weekend, ended up going 0-6 in the amateur section, provisional rating of 600 something USCF. I had a few close games, but it seems like as soon as things get complicated I can't seem to make a plan or know what to do outside fairly straightforward threats. Since I'm just a 600 its obvious that everything needs to improve, but what would you guys recommend for learning/improving? Are there certain books I should read, or practice schedule I should do? I don't exactly know how far I want to go with this, mindset right now is just 'get as good as I can with the time I have' since I work and a newborn son.

So far I've picked up Chess Fundamentals, How to Reassess your Chess, and a book of Paul Morphy's games, but haven't really dug my heels into them.

The book of Paul Morphy's games is good, but Chess Fundamentals and Reassess your Chess is more for intermediates.
Try more beginner books like Yasser's Winning Chess series or the Soviet Chess Primer.
Work through Polgar's giant chess puzzle book.
Read Logical Chess Move by Move or Simple Chess by Michael Stean for a guide to plans.

Focus on the Morphy book. Play caveman chess. When you’re feeling more confident, play through Capablanca’s games and try to emulate his middle game strategies in your own games

At your level, spam tactics on Chesstempo. Solve hundreds of them. I get where you’re coming from. I am a working parent too with little time to study. I competed in my first tournament since 2019 earlier this year and I went 3-2 in the under 1600 section

Simple Chess is a great book too

Nigger you're way too shit to even get anything from actual books. Literally just play some games and focus on having everything defended at all times. Zero calculation, zero tactics, zero tricks, just make sure your shit is defended(even if the defence fails because of tactics). This is enough to get you to 1000 if not higher.
Then and only then are you ready to even start doing tactics.

No, for two reasons.
He legitimately no longer wants to put in the work in Classical chess in general, let alone the sort of work required for a World Championship. He regards Classical Chess at the highest level as OVER, he thinks it's too drawish and it makes him feel sleepy.
The other reason is that he knows there's a good chance he wouldn't win, he barely won it the first time. He's not a super dominant player like Kasparov or Fischer, when the pressure is really on (in a Candidates or World Championship match) and it's not a random tournament he's not exceptional. It would be devastating to his precarious GOAT status, which is entirely due to recency bias, if he couldn't win Candidates and reclaim his crown.

Please note that both reasons are due to him not being as good as people think and getting tired of not being able to live up to expectations. His World Championship against Ian was the first he won in a dominant fashion, which is why he promptly went "so there" and called it quits. That's how he wants to leave it, and any mid results he gets in Classical going forward he can chalk up to "not caring anymore."

>Will magnus stay at the top of the classical ratings for a long time since he's playing less classical games?
Yes. As long as he's still an active player (there is FIDE criteria for that, which he is easily meeting) and hovering roughly around his usual range, it's just on the other players to try to catch up. It's hard in the 2800s as the point gain is so small and the loss even against 2600s is relatively large. That is the same reason Magnus' half ass goal of 2900 classical is not taken seriously by chess community or Magnus himself anymore.
>Does he have the record for being number 1 rating the longest yet at least?
I don't think... actually I'm not sure about this record. Probably Kasparov still holds it? I don't know.

Yeah, I got a strong impression that Fabi thinks that that guy is very suspicious. But that's par for the course. Top players accuse themselves of cheating behind closed doors all the time. It turns into a scandal, if they go public. Usually when Fabi is suspicious of someone, he will only publicly allude to them potentially cheating without stating it outright. As do other players like Giri and Nepo. Regarding Kramnik, that dude has no credibility left when it comes to accusing people of cheating, so him doing it could potentially inadvertently make the case appear weaker to the general public.

I think Kramnik "works" in the sense of saying uncomfortable things that nobody else has the balls to say, so I think he is useful. On the other hand, weren't those experts like noobs at chess or completely clueless about the game and tried to explain certain anomalys with retardation? Like you have to play chess and have experience to feel that something is wrong, time usage, etc... Many have that "feeling" and knowledge/suspicions (sometimes right or sometimes wrong) to catch cheaters. Look up "Borislav Ivanov " and how FIDE and others tried to defend this obvious cheater, and people kept putting pressure until they took action

A lot of Kramink's accusations are based solely on the results that certain players have had (which he claims are anomalous and a clear indication of cheating), not on the moves that they play (he also makes those, but it's more rare). And you can verify the veracity of such claims without knowing anything about even the rules of chess, just about what results are expected based on players' ratings.

That guy constantly flip flops. One time he says that something is a clear indication, other times he will strongly insinuate it via shit like his "interesting" shtick, then he get mad when people treat what he's doing as flinging accusations. He's as big of a faggot as it gets.
>accuracy is based on the moves they play and he's always talking about accuracy
No, there are players like Hikaru who he accused solely on the basis of his winning streak on chesscom. Prompting a whole study being released by a professor of statistics saying that he was full of shit. But Kramink isn't having any of that, because how can anybody know better than him, so he continues to tarnish his image further and further.

This is the best take from all of it. You got that faggot Lupo who was playing a meme tournament and is already rich af cheating. But someone like Hikaru or Danya would never, even when they earn millions from being "online blitz/bullet experts". He had zero compelling evidence against him. It was utterly pathetic to witness. Like all other Kramnik accusations (it's probably easier to count the people he hasn't accused). That guy's brain rotted to the core. But I get that it might appeal to conspiracy schizos like yourself. Is there cheating in chess? Yes. Have high rated players been caught cheating? Yes. Is it prevalent at the top level? There's not good reason to believe that. And even at lower levels, you need actual evidence, if you're going to accuse someone, and Kramnik doesn't understand what would constitute good evidence from the statistical point of view.

That's cool, but nobody is saying that, so I don't know why you're even bringing it up. Do you think players at top level events aren't checked for e.g. electronic devices? The best players are probably the most rigorously verified, especially after players like Carlsen made a massive stink about it. It's at the lower levels where the anti-cheating measures are lacking.

Okay, I'll give you that Kramnik was right about that one. Naroditsky thought the game was already over, and was waiting for the guy to resign, so he brought an engine up to show analysis of the game to his stream. He shouldn't have done that, even if he wasn't using it to get moves (the clip is online, you can go watch it), he should have still waiter until the game officially concluded. If that was all Kramink had to say, then I would be fully on board. But that wasn't Kramink's point. Kramnik's point was that Naroditsky is a notorious online cheater. And the evidence simply doesn't match the claim.

Nta but I was watching a Naroditsky stream recently and he was getting fucking run over by some random no-name. After every game he would slam his mouse and say something like “Ok fun’s over, it’s time to get serious now” and then he would lose again. He was just out of his league. Only like 30 mins into his stream at that point, he announces he’s going to end it early so he can “focus”. I checked the games they played after and Naroditsky started winning almost all of them

That incident is not at all similar. The guy is consistently looking in one direction over and over again away from the screen, and then proceeds to play top engine lines. When it comes to simply not looking at the board, then that's something Hikaru also does as well when he plays. Not only online but over the board. There was even that meme that he had stockfish on his ceiling. It's simply what people do when they focus. They might want to analyze something in their head, they might want to recall a line, etc. Doesn't constitute compelling evidence of engine assistance by itself, especially when Naroditsky then goes on to lose many of those games.

Again, none of that constitutes compelling evidence. Everything he's doing has perfectly normal explanations.
>the 20 second thing
I don't know that one, you'll have to show it to me.
>the eye movement being physically impossible to be looking at the other monitor,
I don't know what this even mean. If it was impossible to be looking at the other monitor, then how is it evidence of him cheating? Unless you're referring to some specific claim that Naroditsky made in his own defense that I'm not aware of. But even if that's the case, that's not proving anything, so again, I don't know why bring it up.
>the bishop c8 thing
Perfectly findable for a strong grand master. Hikaru looked at that and said that it's easily the natural move in the position.
>his absurd and preformative reaction with the 5 webcams that still didn't show his entire setup etc
That's not evidence of anything, so I don't know why you're even bringing it up.

I'm sorry, but this is nothing. It's all just a bunch of "isn't it interesting". And the "interesting" things are inconclusive. Actual schizophrenia.

look at his eyemovent from here to the rest of the game and tell me,regardless if you think it's evidence of cheating or not, that he isn't doing the same exact tying as fake petrosian
>the 20 second thing
when he supposedly opened the engine in the speed run video(which I think on his own would be a nothing burger) there is a quite convenient 20 second cut during which he supposedly opened chassbase and inputed the moves, the alternative would be he has a program feeding his live games to chessbase which would be quite damning, kramnik challenged him to replicate this live on levitov and he wasn't capable of doing it(took 24 seconds... yes 20% more is a lot don't go "oh 4 seconds is le little time")
>the eye movement being physically impossible to be looking at the other monitor,
basically as you can see in the video in this post and the other one vs So he was looking at the top right more or less int he same spot every move, many tried to hand wave it as "he was looking at chat/opponent's clock/stream labs/whatever" except narodistky showed both his setups and in both cases his webcam is above the monitors which are also lower than his head so it would be impossible for him to look up-right and still be looking at either of his monitors
>Perfectly findable for a strong grand master
nepo giri and other GM disagree
>That's not evidence of anything
sure but it is suspicious and adds on top of everthing else
again I also don't think any of this is conclusive but pretending that kramnik had nothing at all is just false

>that he isn't doing the same exact tying as fake petrosian
Absolutely not. Petrosian is looking so far down that you can't even see his eyes because his eyelids are covering them. While you could explain what Naroditsky is doing as e.g. having a normal-sized monitor and looking at different parts of the board. I'm actually shocked that you think those are similar.
>when he supposedly opened the engine in the speed run video (...)
I don't think it really says much. The pressure is very different in those two scenarios. And there's so much that can impact how fast you can do things on a given day, that it's really inconclusive. Anyway, if you think that it's a nothingburger by itself, then what are the dependent events that together with this one constitute a compelling piece of evidence? It's not reinforcing any independent events (like instances far removed in time).
>basically as you can see in the video in this post and the other one vs So he was looking at the top right more or less int he same spot every move
You could also explain it as him simply looking at different parts of the board. You may not find it compelling, but that real possibility makes it inconclusive. It's not comparable to Petrosian.
>nepo giri and other GM disagree
Ah, yes. Nepo. The guy who accused every guy in the top 100 of cheating. That guy surely knows his stuff. I'll give you Giri, but again, Hikaru disagrees. Not exactly conclusive.
>sure but it is suspicious and adds on top of everthing else
See, this is conspiratorial thinking. No, it doesn't "add on top of everthing else". A bunch of "isn't it interesting" that can have multiple compelling explanations without ANY smoking gun isn't compelling evidence.
>again I also don't think any of this is conclusive but pretending that kramnik had nothing at all is just false
The things you told me are why I'm saying he had nothing. This is not compelling evidence. This is waving your hands around without anything concrete.

My point is that it's inconclusive. You come up with any number of probable explanations that aren't in any way damning. Thinking that a bunch of "interesting" non-conclusive things taken in aggregate constitute compelling evidence is low IQ conspiratard thinking, so don't give me that shit, faggot. Also, what is also "interesting" is that you thought the kind of glancing Naroditsky was doing was in any way similar to Petrosian looking so far down that you can't even see his eyes. Very objective assessment on your part, and definitely not indicative of brain rot.

VERY likely cheating. His level OTB is nowhere close to his level in TT. OTB he’s equal to/slightly worse than Dubov, who is Magnus’s pet. Online he magically mogs Magnus and Hikaru. He also has a history of cheating online. It’s POSSIBLE that he’s just a legend of TT specifically, but again, VERY unlikely.

It's blitz. Every 2700+ can have his day and win a couple of games against the top of the field. Hans is of course very strong, but pit him in a multi-game match against Carlsen or Nakamura, and you get shit like that speed chess championship in Paris.

It looks like Anish slightly touched the knight and moved the bishop, which most players wouldn't be undignified enough to make a scene about but his opponent was an ogre seething at being lost. By the law of the letter he was probably in the right there, it does more like Anish touched it than he didn't and arbiter should have ruled that. But Anish's opponent is a dweeb.

Faustino is genuinely a prodigy with a ton of potential, he's not at the level yet to consistently compete with top GMs but beating Nihal is a great sign. We'll see over the next few years what his progress looks like but he's widely anticipated to potentially be the next Magnus. Also important to keep in mind that it's just Rapid, not that it isn't still impressive

his opponents were shitters but white was most likely cheating in those games, the time usage is that same for every move and it's almost all first and second engine moves(the few that aren't are still strong and were probably first or second for older versions of stockfish or whatever chess engine he was using 9 years ago)
Imagine if my previous post was wrong and this is catmixers origin lmao

During opening play in FischerRandom, if you get a starting position where you have to make a tradeoff, is it more important to develop your pieces or control the center?
Or do RegularChess opening principles simply not matter?

he seems to have some sort of mental illness that has been degenerating through the years
I find his current arc more funny than sad though, the guy who doxed the pbt was like:
>well he imported a game on lichess from a .com account that used his real name, I googled it and all the information matched what he posted on reddit, basically he doxed himself
and for some reason his reaction was
>hahahahahaha zoomers are pretending to be hackers saying they backtracked his ip through cyber space in the matrix
and he's still seething at wanna be hackers that only exist in his head weeks later

My current schizo theory is that Larpov, Pbt, Catmixer, Carla are all multiple personalities of the same guy. Maybe even BearyPink. The /vg/ and /tg/ split is just 2 of his personalities managing two generals and whenever he wants engagement in one of the threads he pulls out one of his personalities: Karla, pbt, that guy that defends Naroditsky, that guy that thinks gms are all super high iq and spergs when you mention Nakas iq test, etc.

some schizo from /x/, he had a meltdown thinking anyone of his opponents that didn't blunder in the first 5 moves was cheating, everyone laughed at him then he became a troll always trying to stir up shit in the general, I don't remember him being the shogifag too but it wouldn't surprise me
this was the post that started it all
https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/90427222/#90434196
and this the account in question, it actually quite funny if you want to give it a look

I was there. Basically he had an opening book he was copying moves from while playing rated games. He told them he was suicidal and promised not to do it again so they reopened his account. I'm sure he still does it but he hides it better.

First of all, you aren't gonna get everywhere by using exclusionary language like that. Say namefriend instead. And your schtick could be using the name Elizabeth as everyone's middle name. Like Magnus Elizabeth Calrsen. Then everyone would know you as the guy who does that.

Start posting challenges from your preferred namefag name. Each time you post, throw in some unnecessary details about the weather and your dating life. Consistently show up to weekend tournaments. This is the fastest way.
