At this point it's obvious that the new story, maps and metas are made by an intern during coffee break while everyone else is playing 4.0 so the big question is whether whatever new feature they introduce is worth the $25 price tag.
I think housing makes JW easily worth its price if you're into that stuff but, if you're not, buying the latest expac still means you get a welfare legendary gen 1 weapon kit every quarter.

While the 'story' explanation for the contracts is that you have npcs farming in the contract zones for you, all the contracts really do is send you some resources by mail once a day. A literal lootbox. It's not like in ESO where you actually got correspondence from an npc telling about his adventures.

Two years ago, for $5 more we got twice the content. Now we're getting a Gyala every third month with delays and missing voice acting on top of that.
People are too quick to forget that, during the LS4, more than half of ANet had been diverted to mobile projects, the staff developing GW2 were a skeleton crew and we were still getting more and better content than what we're getting now.
If we actually got something comparable to a LS3/4 release every three months I'd say the price tag is more than reasonable, but that's most definitely not the case.

Just started the story for Absolutionโฆ Checking all the items and reading the diaries at the White Base camp made me wish I played that story rather than the garbage we got.
It would have been pretty easy to accomplish, too, since we have the scrying pool: they make it to Syntri in chapter 1, then try to access Bava Nisos in chapter 2 and finally get trapped and die out in chapter 3.
I wish the story had the titan fusing with the city be a reveal that we discover rather than just stated outright.

You see, the business model of GW2 is a hybrid between the classic buy-to-play model and the freemium model. The point of a freemium game is that you can play it for free, but the game finds a lot of ways to inconvenience you, and then offers you ways to spend real money to reduce the inconvenience. In GW2's case, that's inventory management. The game buries you under countless different types of items and resources that you need to hoard somewhere for various reasons and this issue is deliberately compounded as with every instalment, they add additional resources, special unlock items to hold onto (like gobblers or teleport scrolls), kill proofs and who knows what else.
The convoluted mess that your inventory becomes is part of the design, to incentivise swiping to make more room. It is part of the business model, it's how they milk the whales.
The fact that they are taking active steps to remove the inconvenience with the wizard's tome, wizard's gobbler and turning essences into currencies, tells me that GW2's role for their company is changing. They're shifting gears from GW2 being the main cash cow, to GW2 being a quasi-museum like GW1, a fun old game to go back to, either out of nostalgia or for new players to learn things about guild wars lore that GW3 doesn't explain. The reason they don't want to inconvenience people on purpose anymore, is because they're planning to herd the whales to the next game, so they don't need to do that in GW2.

Housing is so disappointing in this game.
There's no way to change the theme of the map, remove the wooden house, move around the tool shed and the mounts stable or interact with your other characters other than having them follow you. You can't even tell them to do some emote or equip their weapons, and their back items don't show up at all.
Decorations aren't anything special, either, since you have to get creative using makeshift stairs, walls and doors if you want to make your own custom building, and by the end of JW you still have no access to all of the Lowland Kodan assets.
What's even dumber is that everything is reset when you exit your homestead, meaning all the characters you placed around the map are reset to their default positions, and you can't even set the skybox to a consistent time of day because it will likely change next time you enter (no idea if the gem store northern lights have to be changed every time, too).
Some players have been very creative despite everything but the feature itself hasn't been as good as it should.
