Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.
Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.
>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Any game that makes you write spread sheets that aren't Factorio or Eve Online?

>>526690556This is why I always have a gun on me.
See if you can solve this to complete both objectives and take no grid damage. Took me a full 20 minutes but I got there. Will post the solution a bit later already fucked up the run and lost it on the next island.
The Highlighted (right) mech shoots a shell that pierces and pushes the first enemy, then does the same +3 damage to the next thing it hits.
The middle mech can swap the positions of any two units on the battlefield other than itself, but it has to be laterally next to one of them to do it. Three tile move range.
The left mech fires a remote controlled bomb unit to the selected tile that you can then move around and detonate, dealing 1 damage to all units laterally. Both three tile move range.
Lowest enemy has 1hp, the wasps have 2 each, top enemy has 3hp. They each deal 1 damage. The wasps have 1 attack range, the other two have infinite range in a straight line.
So what does /indie/ think about the OFF prologue?

>Lobber to D4, fires a bomb down to D6>Swapper to D3, swaps the Lobber with the right hand Wasp>Penetrator to B4, shoots the first Wasp into the second Wasp that hits the frozen building, leaving the first Wasp on 1hp>Bomb moves between the two 1hp enemies, blows them up>Swapper bodyblocks the shot from the top enemy>>526702220Any damage. Enemies also take damage from being shoved into inanimate objects or each other, it's worth noting.

Been playing Monster Train 2. It feels like such a perfect sequel in many ways, I actually worry a little for StS2 since this raised the bar and I don't think spires sequel is going to live up to it. Deployment phase fixes almost every problem with MT1. The fact that all the old clans and exiled champs just show up out of nowhere is the cherry on top.

Anyway I never played Warband and I was having a lot of fun with Bannerlord until I reached clan tier 3 in 9 years and realized there was nothing left to do other than a rinse of repeat of map painting and boring inventory management. Sons take way too fucking long to grow up leaving you with the same 5 companions for the whole playthrough.
Also I have the impression that the devs actively hate their fanbase. Starting from the useless patches completely killing the thriving modding community to a DLC that adds fucking boats instead of improving the core gameplay.

Pilots.
I want the last instance of any given pilot I chose to save, to actually stay saved. That's it.
What I mean by that is I want to be able to switch my Kai Miller or Mafan or whoever else for Gana or another pilot, without losing the saved moveset of the previous pilot if I want to keep them. Getting the right two skills on a pilot takes half an hour if I'm lucky and it just really discourages me from trying different pilot combos or new things, because I don't want to lose the guy I put a bunch of work into getting the right skills for. >>526958285system shock had a remake that's 95% accurate to the original dos version in terms of how it plays, mechanics, and so on. I played through the original system shock "enhanced' (basically just making it play on modern systems) and you can pull the strategy guides from like 1995-1996 for everything from map layout to item locations to weapon stats. The stuff the remake added was positive- a better inventory (cell based as opposed to this weird list), weapon mods, item recycling for money (pick up trash items to sell basically), and some minor map changes to better suit the fact 3d room over room stuff is actually much more viable. Even added a thing where if items fall out of the map from wonky physics, there's a lost and found I think on the maintenance deck that'll house it because maintenance drones found it weird it was floating outside.
Sonar Shock is like a straight rip of the mechanics from system shock 95, but modern. Give that a look too.

The communist are actually fascist (so he joined them), he did not like that the game made fun of fascist with gary (he's the only fascist he met), the moralist and ultraliberals are actually communist, rene is a communist because he's black and "friend with a jew" (gaston??), henry is the reincarnation of dolores dei's husband and also dolores dei herself as a symbolic representation of the holy trinity with kim as "another aspect of dolores dei's life", he saw the game as a metaphorical retelling of the story of jesus christ superstar with a bit too much "homosexual propaganda" for his liking. He really did not like getting punished for taking drugs or drinking. He still rated the game a 7/10.
>>526993160is your bother by chance, a utter loser junkie who you hoped would realize he needs to fix his shit by experiencing disco elysium?
>>526993730No, he's a loser who is actively ruining our country by falling upward no matter how incompetent he is. I did not talk to him about disco elysium, he found out on his own and gave me his bad takes on his own.
>>526994093can you ask him how the fuck disco elysium is pro-abortion propaganda? the only mention of abortion I remember is the dream ex telling harry she's glad he aborted his kid. which is in no way a good thing
>>526994205Because poverty, cuno, cunoesse, your ex, the claire twins, the mercenaries story. Basically he sees poverty, disabilities and man made tragedies as pro abortion propaganda. He sees harry as the bad guy of the story (which is one of his only arguably good takes), also his ex doesn't exist and it's all hallucinations of harry's past life as dolores dei. His main evidence is the phone call you can make to your ex which to him proves that she never existed in the first place. Nevermind the fact that you can literally ask your former friends and colleagues about your ex. So since harry is the bad guy and dolores dei has a glowing "womb" (it was her lungs but whatever) and aborted her child, it means that the "jesus" of that world is pro abortion. Nevermind the fact she is pregnant with another man's child in that very scene.
Basically cherry picking and general "silent hill circumcision" insanity.

Said I'd try the Big Catch a thread or two back, didn't like it initially but I've mellowed out.
Put about 7 hours into it, overall it's good, keep coming back to it, not sure I'll 100% the demo but I def still got some playtime left
But holy shit, this game is brutal, you'll be trying again and again and again and AGIAN on certain area's, like the absolute gauntlet you run to get up to this area. I feel like it's so much, wall running is the worst, your character drops like a rock.
Give it a try Anons, if you're in the mood for another 3D platformer demo check out Glyde the Dragon, far more Spyro inspired but it scratches the itch.

>>527010091it has what's called streakbreaker code I believe. If you're doing too well, the game forces you to miss shots. If you're doing badly, you'll land ones you have no reason to land. It also works for enemies, though. I've had rocket launchers go at 90 degree angles sideways to off my teammates in the tutorial because none of the other shots missed, and a sniper that never ever landed shots unless they were completely impossible and would result in saving someone's life.
Also, don't play xcom unless you pirate it, it's published by 2k and their EULA has updated so that they can harvest data at root level, and if you use a VPN to screw with the physical location tracking it's considered abuse so they can ban your account from playing it. Modding is also considered a form of cheating so enjoy your ban.
>>527012656>If you're doing too well, the game forces you to miss shots. If you're doing badly, you'll land ones you have no reason to landThat sounds like one of the worst mechanics ever conceived.
>>527012656Eggscome needs an account now?
>>527012796You forgot that it applies to enemies, meaning if they're doing poorly (IE-you're doing well), they'll land stupidly impossible shots. This is not just bad luck, it is actual design because the devs concluded having it be normal was too easy.
it also keeps the failures/success stored per save, so you can't savescum either. If you try again in a different way it'll still count as a miss. I'm pretty sure there's mods to remove them, but it's been a while, I forget which ones they'd be in.
>>527013279>You forgot that it applies to enemiesNo, I'm aware. That's just dreadful game design either way.
Building your game around dice and then constantly(secretly) loading the dice is horrible. It makes all the rolls feel meaningless whether it's a genuine roll or not.
These people should never have made a game in the first place if that's true.
>>527013248check the reviews on steam to see the fun bits. It's worse than installing epic games store.
>>527013858Fucking 2K. First Civ, now this.
>>527012656What? I have literally never heard of that. Only that the game fudges the dice rolls in YOUR favor on easier difficulties, and it's plainly editable in the game files. And I'm pretty sure the tutorial is entirely scripted, all hits and misses are predetermined. Unless you mean the intro mission when the tutorial is turned *off*, in which case it's a completely normal mission.
Also, why would they consider modding a bannable offense if there's a robust modding SDK and integrated Workshop support? But other than that you are correct, pirate only, their launcher is an absolute shitheap.
>>527014459Nope, the rocket in the tutorial can and does miss occasionally, makes taking out the ones in the far building take a lot longer. I laughed a little when it took out my teammate on my first run with the blast, which is where I put the game down for like a year before coming back to it.
as for modding, it can interfere with the data collection (IE- remove it with a mod) which is the only reason the EULA update exists. It also contains forced arbitration clauses so when they sell your data (also part of the EULA that they're allowed to sell everything they collect), you have no legal recourse. Hell, they can even collect your chat data from MP and use it to sell you stuff you might be interested in.
>>527015096also remember this isn't just for xcom, it's for ALL 2k published games. Borderlands, Bioshock, Civ, even fucking Duke Nukem. Funnily enough from earlier in the thread, Spec Ops: The Line as well. So no really big losses I guess, but the important part is its all encompassing across the publisher so make sure you clean up your shit.
>>527012656Can't remember what game it was, but I've heard of one that lies about it's hit percentages, because people are shit intuiting probabilities, so it nudges the numbers in your favor in the background

>>527165262I've been stuck a rut like this too, where I'll boot up steam but not feel motivated to actually start a game and just scroll away on here or YouTube, by the time I'm done it's bedtime.

So Anon, the TL:DR is to just find something outside of your comfort zone that looks interesting and play.

I've gotten really into Witcher 3 recently, but put that on hold today because I'm also reading the books and I'm getting into territory where I might spoil myself on the latter so I'll wait until I'm done.
So now I'm back to not really knowing what to play.
Usually a small break goes a long way for me.
Though
>TL:DR is to just find something outside of your comfort zoneis a nice take too. Maybe combined with a break, who knows.
>>527182000I jump into retro stuff occasionally, find weird things that just don't apply to nowadays games. Arx Fatalis (after the community patch) has a shockingly good magic system, letting you cast basically anything at any time without having to access a menu. You can figure out higher tier spells without aid by just experimenting with runes, because they're phrases in the language of magic. So create fire will light your campfires and torches, create fire projectile does what it says on the tin.
The Crusader: No remorse has a bizarre control scheme but once you figure it out, it's great. Every room turns into a puzzle on how to best murder your enemies.

I'm getting into slay the spire and I'm running into an issue with bosses where the only way I can beat them is save scumming and it feels bad. What I mean is my build is technically capable but the deciding factor is just luck of the draw. Like maybe one turn I'll discard a damage card to get a defensive card to block an attack, but that affects the draw order and then 6 turns later the boss has 5hp left and kills me. If I save and quit the fight and do everything else the same way except I trade blows with him, then 6 turns later I kill him with 2hp left.
I understand it's a roguelike and the randomness is part of it but it really sucks to lose a run because "oops you had a 50/50 shot of drawing the card you needed but you didn't and you die now". It blows my mind to see people who have 50% win rates on A20 when I'm struggling on A9. I come from Risk of Rain 2 and I was pretty comfortable on E8 and when I lost I could look back and say "well I shouldn't have challenged that elite. Or I should have taken that red bull instead of that dagger". But when I lose in spire it's just "oh I shouldn't have taken that one card 45 minutes ago because in act 2 I could've got an upgraded version and smithed something else"

I've played the new rune factory for 7 hours and I can say that it's pretty good though it's very much a spinoff rather than a proper rune factory. It's much more action oriented and a lot of the more farming game aspect are simplified. So it's more "Guardian of Azuma: A Rune Factory story" rather than "Rune Factory: Guardian of Azuma". It's still much better than 5, it's not a very good starting point for the series though.
Got side-tracked by another game but I'm back to playing cyber-knight. Still in the early game but the pacing feels on the slower side. New harder mission types, longer story events and new mechanics like head hunters crashing my missions keep getting trickled in so it feels like I'm still on a tutorial despite how developed my characters are. I do appreciate that the stealth system isn't just a binary stealth/loud if I get detected and don't dispose of an enemy in that turn, but instead it more just pushes up the clock before they send big enough reinforcements or additional defenses that I've practically lost the missions. All the classes feel good too, well except for the sniper. It still does good work but with how bad some maps are in terms of line of sight and when there are far superior stealth options(3 other classes have a way to hide or outright dispose of bodies) the damage doesn't feel like it does enough to justify the opportunity cost outside of actually fullblown combat missions. Might need to play around with multi-classing them

>>527292681 The 1.0 is a merely formality, lel, game already had full content a while ago. You can even read the "patch notes" to confirm it. Combat system is cool in theory, but ends up being too limited due to the grid where you attach skills and passives being 3x3 and the skill links are just horizontal/vertical, no diagonal. It was cheap on my currency, so I was satisfied by it, solid enough but definitely not something I'd say it's a must play for fans of dungeon crawlers. I'm disappointed the cheevos aren't retroactive.
You can check Steam reviews for a more in-depth explanation of the combat system. Dungeons are pretty simple and straight-forward, no real fancy gimmick or puzzles.

It's a losing battle man, this type of realism probably just doesn't have the necessary mass appeal for devs to bother with it.

are you ready for the the biggest bag posting of our time /indie/?
>>527348327I really dislike how this backpack game (is there a name for these?) went for the "real" time PvP angle. I feel like the turn based stuff has more strategy, PvP makes the issue even worse, you never get to see what you're going up against so it's more like fancy rock paper scissors and hoping you chose the right counterplay items.
>>527349043its about cramming up as much synergy as possible while getting as much vertical scaling as possible (getting better items as opposite of just increasing in quantity, because you run out of space).
>you never get to see what you're going up against so it's more like fancy rock paper scissors and hoping you chose the right counterplay itemswhile there are items to counter specific stuff, there is so many builds now and the skills add some diversification inside the builds themselves, I mean, builds don't focus on a single thing as hard as they did in the past, so this seems to be a non issue. I would point out the rng of the shop, if I wanted to complain about the rng, on high ranks you start going against builds who just had the most perfect curve and the right picks at right times, it gets ridiculous sometimes.
>>527350592It's been a while since I've tried it out, so I'll trust you that build diversity has improved. I still feel like just having a preview of your next opponent would be a good idea, letting you set up actual counterplay and giving you a reason to keep powerful but niche items in your storage. Sort of like a sideboard, if you know MtG.
>>527301805got me to dwell on if I wanted to actually dev.
>>527351313wouldn't that make it way too easy? I mean, we are playing against "ghosts" of other players, just saved builds on their database, its not real time, so these builds don't have the chance to adapt against you, it seems a bit unfair.
>>527351872Sorry yeah, forgot to add that I want it to be actual real time PvP. They can limit it to a certain bag or a number of swaps or whatever, I think having two people competing against each other is way more fun than fighting against what might as well be bots.
>>527351872Also to elaborate a bit more, I understand the devs probably didn't go that route because they would need actual servers, which carries even more risk than other indies. This is just me rambling about personal preferences. I'll probably give the game another shot sometime anyway, the core idea is still fun.

It's a bit of a learning curve but you get used to it surprisingly quickly. The only thing that's a problem are shooters that require VERY precise aim, because your wrist is in a different position and fine movements are a bit harder. Or maybe I'm just bad at video games

>>527376982I feel the same whenever I want a mouse that isnt wireless, either dirt cheap crap that last half a year or muh gaming mouse with 6 buttons including one that change the mouse sensibility which is mostly just annoying. I'm unable to enjoy Rain World whenever I've tried. Can I get some recs? Been playing Marathon, sorry were closed, signalis, hylics 2 (but bored me)
>>527397098I use wireless for my notebook, because wires are a pain for portable stuff, but other than that I agree, and its so hard to get something basic and high quality that is also wired.
I got some G something (403 I think) mouse from logitech long ago, and it comes with some discret leds AND rubber on the sides, dirty sticks on the rubber, its a pain to clean, the rubber also deformed with heat (using it under sunlight near a window), absolutely disgusting.
Meanwhile, on another G something version (wireless), of similar quality, they removed the leds (to save battery) and the rubber (to cut costs, most likely) and it feels so much better to use, except its wirreless, the fucking irony. Why they can't make just make something like this wired? Remove some extra buttons to save costs while at it.

The whole environment simulation should be right down my alley, and I've had genuine moments of joy during the game Evading the big bird by scurrying into little tunnels But somehow the game just doesn't click with me...maybe because the last two times I've tried I've semi softlocked myself.
My latest blunder was Making it through some swimming challanges to end up in a spooky dark place that seemed like I wasn't supposed to be there yet. However escaping from it required completing some even harder swimming challenges that I couldn't complete
>>527399315Do you like doom standalone? Because I could recommend Wolfenstein; blade of agony which is a very well made free standalone doom mod, has 3 whole feature lenght chapters as of now iirc. There is also Ashes ; 2063 which has a post apocalyptic vibes where you are a scav trying to survive.
In term of gameplay, if you like going fast, I recommend either Haste or Crumble.
>>527403517No, actually. I hate fast stuff, I tried Ultrakill or whatever its called but its too fast and it looks ugly to me, I liked cruelty squad a lot but just watching ultrakill gameplay gives me a headache

>>527404903You generally need three things to win:
>a way to kill beefy dudes and bosses>a way to kill squishy backliners>a way to keep your dudes aliveDifferent clans will be better or worse at each, the most straightforward example would probably be the woke plants. Animus of will is a great scaling carry to demolish tanks with buffs like razorsharp edge, husk hermit will hit all those pesky utility guys in the back with sweep, and all your healing spells are great at keeping alive whatever tank you choose. Sometimes things won't fall neatly into any category, like a unit with high regen and spikes isn't going to clear out tanks and healers, but it's great at dealing with attacking backliners and bosses. Hard to give more advice without knowing what's troubling you.
>>527405547My favs are marathon, system shock 1 (but i hate 2), tactical shooters, killer7, adventure p&c games, old rainbow six, cruelty squad, deus ex, i also can like stuff like the bpd girl game or such, i can like most things but if i dislike something i can never get to change my mind on it
>>527410860Yeah, Awoken + Lazarus seems to be the overall best combo (easy regen, easy rage on the animus, spikes when necessary), although I've also had good luck with Underlegion + Melting and Luna + Stygian/Hellhorn.
I'm usually crashing out against Seraph or the fight before Seraph. The big 440 HP dudes kill me a lot; it seems like if I prioritize survivability my DPS is too low and if I prioritize DPS my dudes die too early. I've got the fundamentals down, I took MT1 to Covenant 15 or so, but I keep getting fucked here in MT2.
oh good now AAA games cost 80 bucks
def gonna make wanna buy more games
>>527415457If you're dying at seraph or right before, you probably need better scaling. Could be from having too bloated of a deck, could be not getting good upgrades on units, could be not taking enough risks early to be able to reap the rewards later.
>>527418609After losing against Seraph again, I think I'm making my deck too big. Maybe I should take the card draw ember after the second boss more often.
>>527420105You should look at your deck and how many cards are going to cycle. So the spells without consume, the units you can't place down, the blights, etc. The goal is to get it down to the number of cards you draw each turn, but that's usually difficult. If you can manage it though, you effectively have holdover on every spell, which is nuts.

>>527436453cov 25, in mt1, but not the last divinity
>>527411507system shock 1 had a remake that's 95% accurate to the original, but better inventory, you can mod weapons, money is a thing and the trash in the area can provide it, and they did something questionable with the regen bays per deck only needing to be active on the hardest mission mode. They even got back Shodan's voice for extra lines. You're only missing out on that stance "spectrum" thing they did, it's now just crouch and lean.
Citadel/Beyond Citadel. Beyond is the better one. Realistic weapon handling (jams, manual cycling of pump, lever, and bolt action, etc., lets you manually increase fire rate but you can fuck up and cycle out live rounds), leaning/pie-slicing is kind of necessary especially early on and you have to account for bullet drop per weapon.
>>527437939>SelacoHad this for a while. Like I told my friends, wait for the full release and sail the seas for it. Whatever their final asking price is, it won't be worth it. It's made on the sourceport of gzdoom, modified, but that were the problem comes in. Most of their time is attempting workarounds for basic shit, like to get something like room over room to work more effectively or have enemies realize glass is transparent and can be shot through. Still haven't figured out how to reliably make it so when you're sliding you don't hard stop on a random loose floor tile, of which are literally everywhere. Their devs have had meltdowns over various stupid things which they always delete on top of it, but since it's an established pattern (if you've been there since the beginning anyway...) you should be wary of the very real possibility they have "the big melty" during their own perceived crunch time and just turn that last stretch into slop so they can be done with it.

>>527457962>mostly positiveThat means it's shit like you say.
>>527464043the problem with the review system is obviously that someone isn't likely to purchase a game if they think they won't like it, so the review system has a massive positive bias that gives almost every game a positive review score to some degree unless it's just an irredeemable fuckup of a game
the best you can do is take a positive review and imagine it lower by 20-30% to accurately gauge what the popular reception would actually be, games with 90%+ positive review scores are the only ones that have anything close to a guarantee of quality

If you put a troon or their ilk in the game as a major character it's going to suck just as much as a furry game that's a loose excuse for a fetish. Scav is probably going to suck because it'll have so many ways to depress or kill you because it just fascinates the dev rather than being a fun mechanic.
Stuff like Selaco just has asshole devs with melty's and banning naysayers in their forums for calling them out on their shit, Atlyss had fat fetishists losing their mind over a character proportions bug to the point it openly split the community between ERPers and people that actually enjoy the game because it's good. With that split defining things better, the development appears to be going a lot smoother now by all the videos getting posted.
Get rid of the sex pests and the game will develop into something better on its own.
>>527559103>The sex pests are the problemI agree with petty much everything you said, the constant and unending obsession furries have with being crazed sex fiends has forever damaged their hearts and minds and the perception outsiders have of them.
I really really fucking hate it too, people hate anthros because this shit has been happening for over 20 fucking years, feral is commonplace, the most insane and immoral fetishes are ignored or worse justified, and they have the gall to act like victims. People are never going to be able to take anthro games seriously because they associate it with crazed sex fiends, and who's fault is that??? We're seeing Scav adding more insane deaths bordering on fetishistic, and Atlyss is made by a porn artist, and those are just the thread relevant examples.
I just wanna enjoy anthro animals because I think they're cool, not cause I'm a degenerate, but ig we can't have nice things.
>>527564874the thing that's worse about Atlyss is the guy did this specifically to get away from the porn and made a good game. The furries melting down over a proportions bug secured the idea the "service" is intrinsic to the game, which it absolutely isn't, the game stands very well on its own and you don't have to make a chonk character to enjoy it. They infested it so hard he built a self-isolating feature into it by having lewd servers seperated from the main ones.
>>527565895>the guy did this specifically to get away from the porn and made a good game.So he makes a fat fetish furry game and uses the excuse "but you don't gotta be fat though", and then gets surprised when it's infested with fatso's?

Also depending on the stage of development it might be too early to put on steam, as peoples tend to be understandably annoyed if somesthing stayblvon EA for "too long" on steam.

>>527572579Did the patches improve the game much? I haven't played since right around release and felt pigeonholed into needing to do only one thing or die (stuff that procs instances of damage into instances of other damage types). The patchnotes look like a huge number of buffs, so hopefully that gives more room to freely experiment.
>>527603801>stuff that procs instances of damage into instances of other damage typesWell at the end of the day you're still building synergies to break the game, the type you described is pretty common but you can get creative with it. That run for example was built around drain pulse with the summon cat on kill upgrade. Since the cats reincarnate, you get to kill them for more cats, and with restless dead you get skeletons as well. Dark harvest basically lets you spam those spells forever. Found an early sprigganmaker, which just adds to the spam. The summons alone don't do much damage, but with necrostatics, chain lightning gets super buff. Add the shield upgrade and now it also chains to allies, granting them a shield for more durability. Then you have sonic shielding, which deals damage and silence when shields break. It's like 5 different damage types so very capable of handling immunities, and the summon spam provides some defense as well since enemies can never reach you. I don't think you could really call it the same as say, my last run where I was spamming 30+ wizard summons, despite both being summon builds. They have superficial similarities but function very differently.

the dopamine that this gave gives is just unreal
Act 1 was mediocre (relics are good, cards are terrible). Picked Slaver's Collar over the +2 Miracle boss relic since my curve was terrible
Act 2 was weird since normal fights didn't hurt as much (thanks Anchor) but I had 0 block/damage output. Spent all potions and rests over elites, had to dodge 1. Boss went about as bad as expected, but I squeezed out a kill. Ended the act with unupgraded Mental Fortress, Lesson Learned and Fusion Hammer since I needed the energy.
Act 3: barely got any upgrade with Lesson Learned due to annoying spawns (+ I have no meditate). Spent all gold in 1 shop before burning elite (wasn't even good buys) and barely survived the encounter. Last rest gave upgraded Tantrum, which was a massive improvement.
Act 4: got unupgraded Talk to The Hand and an upgrade pot. Took 40 from the elite fight. Seemed doom since I have 0 damage output but then they dropped cultist potion.
Final boss: took 0 damage from all the good shit the game dropped since last act 3 rest.

>>527668728In the case of some of the dark souls games there's at least one sword that you can literally stab yourself with until you die.
In cry of fear there's an enemy that "attacks" you by causing your character to shoot himself in the head if your equipped gun is loaded.
In dead space 2 there's the eye needle machine that if improperly operated will fatally stab isaac to death and the QTE against nightmare nicole that is revealed to actually just be the marker influencing isaac to shoot himself with his gun
>>527671359In the case of dark souls the Seppuku art is just a buff, there's no extreme suffering like Scav is and you can only KYS if you try too, you always come back after death too, same with becoming hollow in DS3
In fact a lot of the games mentioned are far less embellished with KYS'ing, it's either just there or you have to go out of your way to deliberately off yourself
>>527671359>In cry of fear there's an enemy that "attacks" you by causing your character to shoot himself in the head if your equipped gun is loadedOh right, I think that's what I meant with

>>527680856At least not outside the discord, but the discord is sfw.
>>527668728imo "being a game mechanic" means the player can do it as an available action rather than a consequence, from the ones I listed DayZ's is probably the most obvious one, Disc Room is arguable, and buckshot roulette death by suicide is a fail state.
>>527629734Bots are...usable. You need to babysit them on bad subs, forbid them from interacting with any cabinet that has medicine, and probably have to get the mod that allows them to respawn after a mission. But they're passable meatshields for on-foot combat, are better turret gunners than the average multiplayer rando, do their assigned jobs reliably if rigidly (as long as pathfinding doesn't break), and are essentially extra lives for you. Definitely need an assistant dedicated to putting diving suits back though.
>>527664473There's some medical game I recall where you can either save or kill a patient through various health complications. A patient can get depressed and suicidal and may even kill themselves immediately resulting in a loss/win that way.
>>527667440>>527668003There's also Kill Yourself, which is a little game where you have to find various ways to become an hero within an apartment.
>>527684806Good point on Buckshot. A lot of the games listed have the suicide as a fail state that arrives quickly, like a single attack or a trap, not a full slow burn system that constantly pushes the player character toward it. With Buckshot Roulette, the entire game revolves around manipulating the result and possibly being forced to gamble on it, a decision that you can incorrectly judge, making it a solid mechanic. You don't even need to ever turn the gun on yourself either.

It's basically an idle game on your desktop
>>527702936>there can be many reasons for thatNot good ones. If you plan on committing suicide, it follows that you either don't believe in an afterlife or don't care about there being one. If there isn't one, your consciousness ends at the moment of death, and the feelings of anyone around you become irrelevant as you will not experience them. If there is, the pain of you killing yourself will likely still be felt by your loved ones wherever they end up, meaning there's no reason to wait until they die. While you may think you're being noble, in reality you're simply robbing yourself of happiness while also refusing to take meaningful action to end your suffering by either improvement or death. No one can make you suffer other than yourself. You choose to be unhappy.
>life experience tells otherwiseThis is actually a logical fallacy - you can interpret it as appeal to tradition. Something being true in the past does not necessarily make it true in the present or future. That said, anything can be a logical fallacy with a little wiggling. You're thinking of argumentum ad populum, or appeal to popularity, but I'm not saying that most people believe that happiness is possible, therefore you should too, but rather that most people are not suicidally unhappy, which is a verifiable fact.
>we don't always get what we wantNobody gets everything they want, but that doesn't make it a binary situation; you can get some of the things that you want. Getting some of these things is better than getting none of them, which is what you're currently doing. Assuming you are not terminally ill, mentally retarded, or otherwise disabled, there are actions you can take that will improve your quality of life and thereby your overall mood. You probably regularly reason your way out of doing so with some manner of habitual nihilistic thought, but playing through a scenario in your head is not representative of what will happen in reality, and you probably recognize that on some level.
>>527707640To add a final thought: you're using your own thoughts and beliefs, which are actively making you suicidal, to attempt to figure out what you should do with yourself. To borrow a platitude from 12-step programs: you can't fix your broken brain using your broken brain. It is natural to humans to prioritize being correct over basically anything else. It's a common issue to get stuck in patterns of self-defeatism due to this. It is not an issue that is unique to you and it is not insurmountable. Therapy and/or meaningful action can and will break you out of your depression.
Boy Scav is quite a game.

>>527707640>If there is, the pain of you killing yourself will likely still be felt by your loved ones whereveWhat if there isn't? Curious how you don't explore that hypothesis.
>No one can make you suffer other than yourself. You choose to be unhappy.Love this victim blaming. Of course, it all boils down to it at the end, all the arguments and mental gymnastics until now, they all have been just about this in their core. Curious how people who argue against suicidal people online are mostly like this. They try to pass as being positive, unbiased and delay it a bit, but try to argue a bit and soon it becomes clear: they just want to say its all your fault and you should feel bad about it, you should suck it up, stop being sad in front of them and stop reminding them that bad things exist, that is it, that is all that the arguments boils down to. That is just being condescending and beating a dead horse, you are never going convince anyone with this. I am not even going to comment on the rest.

>>527711501>victim blamingYou are not a victim and you have not been victimized. Being alive is not a persecution. The reason people tell you that you are doing it to yourself is because you are - consider the common variable in the times you've been told that. Your problem is mental and you are the only person who can control your own thoughts. You have an emotional reaction to this because you are aware that it's true, which means that you're wrong, which makes you scared, which makes you angry. I don't care if you live or die because I don't know you. I'm arguing because it helps me to identify my own thoughts and beliefs about suicide, which is of interest to me because I've attempted suicide multiple times and keeping my thoughts aligned against further attempts is in my self-interest. I can tell you from my own experience that revelling in your misery is non-productive, and no matter how unhappy you are now, you will become even unhappier if you continue in this way. In short, I'm not trying to condescend to you, I'm expressing the thoughts that prevent me from killing myself while also keeping me semi-functional as a human being. If you consider the argument you might find it useful. Good luck to you.

Humanity is basically dead, the survivors are mindfucked, the few survivors that aren't mindfucked and help the player character get completely obliterated into some ashes and smoldering gristle, and she smashes the remaining standing military of humanity by the end of the game because it's blocking her from being re-united with her dead brother which she loved just a little TOO much.

Devs will never admit they come here to get brutally honest opinions for developing anything, nor advertising to that consciousness.

there are games that come close but don't exactly have the same amalgamation of qualities
cataclysm dark days ahead if you're autistic enough or bright nights if you like fun
dda is about forgetting a recipe for a bandage because you got hit into head and then wasting 3 bedsheets because you're nauseous and there's no light while trying to disinfect a dressing with alcohol
bn is about plowing through two hordes of zombies as a mutated nuclear-powered bear with a shoulder-mounter grenade launcher on a custom-made jet wheelchair and then suffocating rubble you've just created. after about 40 hours of slow skill and material grind.
pick one of the survival sims, maybe. green hell for the funny animations and actually decent balance, the long dark for a cool narrative, but I can't really say much otherwise, not exactly well versed in the genre. maybe something classic like the forest could work.
barotrauma has physics, and if you mod it enough - a similar hardcore medical system, but it's more of a vehicle manipulation game and bot wrangling simulator, or a multiplayer wackfest with friends.
>>527872729...what? "School pub"?
Gotta start young, I guess.
>>527869295Funny, but he does have two weapons on the right.
I always want to make these fatigue builds, but end up with vampiric or poison again.
>>527869723Yeah, what I'm looking for is something similar to cdda. I love its complex gameplay depth that you have to slowly learn. In cdda you have to first learn how to hit and run zombies through obstacles and then you learn cheese tricks like how to polearm or shoot zoms from a roof or maybe just learn how to do dangerous stuff like throwing grenades and then you finally learn how to safely mutate and modify yourself into a mutant-android zombie killing machine (not as strong as it sounds). Like in scav I probably have OCD so I died so many times but I finally learned to slowly look before I leap and even throw glowfruits around for vision. Any other games where I need to learn stuff like that?
Also you made dda sound so lame compared to BN but I actually prefer dda just because of the pocket system. The pocket system in BN is so dumbed down while in DDA, I need to have dedicated holsters for each of my weapons, like a utility belt or a strap on my backpack and a pistol holster for each leg, which let me pull them half a second faster than anywhere else, it feels tacticool.
>>527877589I mean, CDDA really isn't that complex. I played that game enough my mutations didn't fit in the UI and literally all I had left to do was permanently learn the biotic MA (which is just rng).
You just punch a bench to death, make a cudgel, run into town, find food/books and jack off in the basement reading until zombies inexplicably fall through the cieling, then beat them to death with a table. Once you get dodging to like 6 and and some drugs for if you get a bad bite, you really have to choose to die.
You don't need a dozen weapons, you don't need CBM's... a single weapon with block and sufficient (not high) stats trumps 90% of the world. Even the stuff you claim you need to learn like polearms (literally you just press F) and grenades (the game clearly marks where they're going to land, what are you learning?) aren't complex at all.
You really just want
- Strong unarmed or a generally good weapon (ie cudgel)
- A rapier or something with high pierce (for shoggoths specifically)
- Maybe a gun (for mi-go when your stats suck)
- The sense to leave shit areas (ie mushrooms, not worth fighting)
What CDDA actually serves as is a game people trick themselves into thinking is harder and more complex than it actually is so they can post screenshots and stories online.
Within that niche,
Elona, Kenshi (fucking trash game btw; literally barely runs), Unreal World, Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld, Zomboid (as a blatant CDDA ripoff) all come to mind.
All of the above have a reputation for being hard and complex, all are super easy to trivialize, all lead to interesting stories to the guy posting the stories
>>527879194CDDA's game mechanics are definitely hard to learn, or at least it take time to learn. I don't know why you're trying to trivialize it like that. For "badass gamer" internet brownie points maybe?
Polearming from the roof is not as simple as it sounds. You usually have to climb through drainage pipes.
Not enough dex? Slip and fall
Too much encumbrance? Slip and fall
In pain? Slip and fall
It's a risky early game maneuver and it only gets safe once you are able to craft a grappling hook which is a bit difficult.
Early game polearms break quickly too, you can't clear an average zombie horde with those. You have to craft higher quality ones, which take time.
And if you get cocky and a grabber zombie appears you instantly die if it grabs you from the roof. You will fall, break your legs and be surrounded by zombies.
Grenades in CDDA are not like in other games, aside from the blast radius they actually launch shrapnel over long distances. You have to learn how to take cover because if you're unarmored and get hit by shrapnel, you're pretty much dead. An advanced trick is to position yourself behind zombies just before the nades explode so shrapnel dont hit you.
Getting your dodge to 6 is not so simple too. Usually you'd need to learn how to hit and run in the early game.
I don't know if BN is super idiot proofed for you to describe cdda like that. Maybe you just cheated or something.
>>527881661You said how to polearm
Not how to polearm specifically from the roof
Bruv
>>527868780I really like the Lovely Planet series, it's a shame now it's going to get a bad rep now because of it
>>527881890No, literally every downside you listed only applies if you're stood on a roof.
I'm not suprised the kind of brainlet who thinks CDDA is SUPER COMPLEX BRO thinks this is semantics however, since its also a retarded take
>>527884034It's semantics because I merely typed it in a confusing way instead of "polearm/shoot" zoms from a roof. You choose to focus on that instead of the actual discussion. You're just doing ad hominem, cherry picking, moving the goalpost and semantics.
I know I'm right. Any person who's actually played cdda will call it complex. There's a limb system, a pain system ,drugs, addiction, gun autism, a shitty NPC system, POCKETS, and many more. At this point I'm just curious as to why you're acting like this.
>>527884958>Says A>Means A but also B>Semanticsbased brainlet
