I want a multiplayer 'forever game' - the concept of Destiny appeals to me massively but it appears to be dying, seems to have the most miserable community of all time, and seems to be a bit of a money sink (lmk if I'm wrong on any of these and should give it another try lol). I'd say wait till DLC comes out, see for yourself through gameplay vids and early reviews whether you think it'd be worth putting time into based the changes theyve made.

Destiny has always kind of sucked if you're not with strength in numbers. Flipside is you can set your goals pretty low and still find something to do feel rewarded, but a lot of the real charm of actually doing the more demanding shit and having things count from the spoils of good shit is sorta not there. Other issue that while an inevitable spurt in player count might happen, I think a lot of people have been pretty checked out of the game if the overall player counts are to be believed. Those counts are still factoring people who just log in and log off, somebody i used to play with is trying to do all of the seals for past raids and trying to get anybody for old content is borderline impossible.

Aside from the expansion recap missions, the seasons just have a blurb about the premise and that's it. As an example, I don't think Splicer's touches on what Sav was doing or why, which is a pretty important plot point. I don't think anything about what she was actually doing in the background during year 3 or 4 is mentioned, just that she was disguised as Osiris in the latter.

D2 is still the best live-service shooter around. Bungie has proven they know how to keep things fresh, and while the seasonal model isn’t perfect, it’s way better than relying on massive yearly expansions that leave content gaps in between. The constant updates and new activities give players something to look forward to, keeping the game alive year after year. TFS was a stellar campaign, easily the best in Destiny’s history, with great storytelling and actual narrative weight. The seasonal content continues to push the story forward, something a lot of other live-service games can’t manage. Sunsetting weapons was a controversial move, but it was necessary to avoid stagnation. Keeps the meta fresh and ensures things don’t get stale with everyone just running the same overpowered gear.
The gunplay is still unmatched in terms of smoothness and satisfaction. Add in the abilities, the mod systems, and the ongoing balance changes, and it's a constantly evolving game like no other live service game has ever managed. The raids are probably the best-designed endgame content ever. The game isn't perfect, there are bugs, sure, but it’s also a game that has continuously improved over the years. I can honestly say that I don't regret a single dollar I spent on this game over the years, and it's rare that you spend so much time with a game and have that as the takeaway. FWIW, I'm glad Destiny exists, and I'm happy to at least try out Marathon as thanks for all the years of quality content Bungie have provided me.

So how do we rate Shite of the Nine, did it restore the hype for Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate.

So, these days, Destiny has lost its place as the top game in its genre to Warframe, which has a larger playercount across all platforms according to most sources.

Why does Destiny still feel like the bigger, more popular game? Is it just because its a AAA title made by a well-known studio or is there something else to it?

the main reason as to why both are talked about in the same space is because they both released around the same time, and have lasted quite a long time.
and I'm not saying Warframe isnt successful, it is much more successful in terms of maintaining a constent player count and growing yearly, I believe the reason as to why it may not be talked about much outside of warframe-oriented talking spaces is because it's not a game that's taken seriously like Destiny.
Warframe is more comparable to a gacha game in terms of collecting characters and leveling them up, no true real endgame.
Destiny is essentially the WoW of FPS, at least that's what Luke Smith was gunning for. Destiny is talked about more because players and fans take it more seriously, and care about it more because we've seen when Bungie puts in effort, there's no game like it.

I genuinely do think part of it is Warframe's hero system not translating the best for marketing. Every character is some 5 shades or so different models of wet slick faceless creature with tendrils or not and unless you have some autistic level of knowledge, everybody looking like a Glup Shitto who? I've played damn near every looter shooter ever made and the only one I'd say that feels like an actual MMO is Defiance. It has clans, trading and large scale activities with everything having matchmaking options. If anyone could point me to the modern looter with something like a Major Arcfall a Seige or Warmaster with like 30 guys focusing down a boss or waves of endgame level enemies with automatic level scaling so even the most green noobs can stumble by and join in the fun I'd love to see it. The obvious compromise was always to have limited craftable perks on guns and a bigger pool of exclusive perks on random drops. Maybe you triple the resources for crafting or just flat limit the number of guns that can be crafted per seasons or you only unlock the specific perks found on the reds so you need like three times as many to get them all. One of the larger apparent takeaways in this create a difficult Portal system was if/when people realize what the most efficient setups are, you can basically give everything the finger and cruise your way to the path of least resistance, and for that he was calling it a slight negative because that's going to be an incredibly mindless farm, it'll make some Portal content piece technically hold more Power Level up value than say the *usual* raid, dungeons pinnacle quality and how that could be boring. Personally I could see it from both sides but I agree, running same 1 thing can get old. She was doing a dungeon in some kind of drowned Dwemer laboratory, and at a certain point you even go through an underwater section while being protected against crushing depths by a magic bubble. I'm not sure what is what, but this dungeon was released in a DLC Dungeon Pack (Lost Depths) released on August 22, 2022, the quest tied to it is called Haunted Depths. Destiny's Season of the Deep, which includes the Ghosts of the Deep dungeon, came around a year later on May 23, 2023. I'm not saying Bungo decided to rip that off, but I do feel the parallels are quite suspicious.

As a long term D2 player this is all sadly a very familiar story. In Destiny we have had to for years hear about how the top brass and C suite were driving the game into the ground. Moving funds to other projects, refusing to update aspects of the game because they didn't earn enough or cost too much. Just generally shit leadership.

GM excision annoyed me when I did it twice, not because of the activity itself but because of the people I was playing with the 2 times I got it.
I went in expecting everyone to be granting buffs. I went in expecting radiant, arc souls for the entire team, BoW titans with woven mail, restoration from everyone and constant invis and tight fit hunters for buffs.
I went in with void titan for overshield since I thought no one would use it.

New friend here. I played a ton till Forsaken and got off. I am retarded and am going to play again in Edge of Fate after buying the Light & Dark collection.

Is it worth finishing Beyond Light/Lightfall/Final Shape on every character right now if I don't plan on playing them much? I've been told you effectively need 3 characters to play seriously but do they need their new specs? What I guess I am asking is what prep should I be doing? I'd say I have about 40hrs to play before Edge of Fates. I've finished all the campaigns on my main character. What Exotics do I want to focus/what should I be doing to put myself into a good starting position for the new "expansion"? It's hard to tell because I know EoF is a soft reboot.

Wasn't this the running theory when somebody on a discord had a leak of an alleged fired Bungie employee who was sour grapes? Basically saying how the Frontiers raid was going to be almost like a WoW situation of wings and you could play bosses in a different pathing leading to various combinations and different things happening in the same rooms? Especially when Bungie themselves mentioned something about how there was going to be 2 different contest mode like events, likely one normal and one with just ballbuster modifiers and other shit thrown on it.

I have a feeling this could be completely plausible because by the looks of it the meat and potatoes of Edge seems very light, there's all this reliance on the free QOL shit, and I wouldn't be shocked if really the only thing Bungie's putting much work into is the Raid and for it to have some replayability given it's the only thing we're getting for awhile.
