This is the bleeding-edge beta testing thread. You get the latest posts, but we don't know if it will crash before the bump limit.

Wanted to try the boss again to see if I could suck any less at it this time. It is easier, because at least I know what I'm doing now, but I don't think I'd want to try beating him without at least a quick save after each phase. Getting insta-killed by a fireball as I come around a corner is just too annoying. Also, I'm not good at Quake in the first place.

I can't get DLSS override to work.
>NVIDIA-SMI 570.153.02
>Wayland KDE

I am adding "PROTON_ENABLE_NGX_UPDATER=1 NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE=on DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE_RENDER_PRESET_SELECTION=render_preset_latest %command%" but it doesn't take any effect.
The "DXVK_NVAPI_SET_NGX_DEBUG_OPTIONS=DLSSIndicator=1024,DLSSGIndicator=2" still shows the old DLSS version. Tested in two games, same results.
What am I doing wrong?

Anonymous
6/12/2025, 5:47:58 AM No.527114173

Ok I figured that the syntax should be:
"PROTON_ENABLE_NGX_UPDATER=1 DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_SETTINGS=NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE=on,DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE_RENDER_PRESET_SELECTION=render_preset_latest %command%"
Which overrides DLSS version.
However I think it still uses the light CNN model rather than the newer CNN/VT hybrid model because a) There is no performance impact b) It either still has the same preset in one game, or in another one it changes to something else other than "K".
So yeah I am still stuck on that front:
Also interestingly in one game the internal render resolution got bumped by one pixel. This shit seems slightly buggy.

OK I give up for now. For the record, "NGX_DLSS_RR_OVERRIDE_SCALING_RATIO=" doesn't work neither. Only version override works, can't change anything else.
I will do a system update later and try again. >570 is supposed to be supported with this but maybe 575.57.08 will fix my problem.
I also tried different proton versions, same story.

>>527123303
No.
I am trying to use DXVK-NVAPI under Proton to do this. Which is supposed to be in working condition for months now.
The reason I don't use optiscaler or replace dll is that it is an online only game and optiscaler explicitly says "Warning: Do not use this mod with online games. It may trigger anti-cheat software and cause bans!"
Maybe it works but should I risk it after this warning?

Ok I think? I managed to get it to work with:
"PROTON_ENABLE_NGX_UPDATER=1 DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_SETTINGS=NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE=on DXVK_NVAPI_DRS_NGX_DLSS_SR_OVERRIDE_RENDER_PRESET_SELECTION=render_preset_k %command%"
after the update.
I can set j and k with this and the DLSSIndicator thingy displays that the preset is changed. Though I haven't personally seen any noticeable visual changes either way. The ingame benchmark had no performance change. But I loaded the game and at the same scene old dlss was putting my GPU at 81% load while new one is at 84-85% so it is using the VT model?
I also still can't change resolution scale but I don't need it now so that's a problem for another day.
Alright, thanks for reading my blog.
>>527126529
Yes it has anti-cheat. So I wanted to do it under proton.

https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/firmware-guide/acpi/osi.html#osi-is-born-and-immediately-misused
>This misuse was adopted and continues today.

>Linux had no choice but to also return TRUE to _OSI(โ€œWindows 2001โ€) and its successors. To do otherwise would virtually guarantee breaking a BIOS that has been tested only with that _OSI returning TRUE.

>Not to be out-done, the Linux community made things worse by returning TRUE to _OSI(โ€œLinuxโ€). Doing so is even worse than the Windows misuse of _OSI, as โ€œLinuxโ€ does not even contain any version information. _OSI(โ€œLinuxโ€) led to some BIOSโ€™ malfunctioning due to BIOS writerโ€™s using it in untested BIOS flows. But some OEMโ€™s used _OSI(โ€œLinuxโ€) in tested flows to support real Linux features. In 2009, Linux removed _OSI(โ€œLinuxโ€), and added a cmdline parameter to restore it for legacy systems still needed it. Further a BIOS_BUG warning prints for all BIOSโ€™s that invoke it.

>No BIOS should use _OSI(โ€œLinuxโ€).

he's wears it short and dyes it now, but it looked surprisingly cool when he grew it out in college, and he always got complements for it

You can use this example script: https://git.dec05eba.com/gpu-screen-recorder/plain/scripts/toggle-recording.sh . Bind it to a key in your desktop environment hotkey settings. It will start/stop recording depending on if it's already running or not. But you can also use this: https://flathub.org/apps/com.dec05eba.gpu_screen_recorder if you want a full ui where you can configure these things

The dbus error means that you dont have any notification service running, so your system cant display notifications. You must have fucked up something or if you are using something like arch then you forgot to install something like dunst and activate it

no problem, I've placed xfce-notifyd inside my .xinitrc and it starts up on boot. The script that the first anon gave me works fine and I made an alternate version that encodes it with ffmpeg and spits out a webm with no sound. Not sure if that's the best way of doing it, but it's something.

That's what I do as well, I have a script that takes a mp4 file and converts it to webm file, making sure it's below the 4mb limit and removes the audio as well:
---
#!/bin/bash

video_file="$1"
output_file="${1%.*}.webm"
output_filename="$(basename "$output_file")"

duration=$(ffprobe -v error -show_entries format=duration -of default=noprint_wrappers=1:nokey=1 "$video_file")
max_size_mb="3.8"
bitrate=$(echo "$max_size_mb * 1024 * 0.99 / $duration * 8" | bc)

# -am
ffmpeg -y -i "$video_file" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -b:v "${bitrate}k" -an -vf scale=-1:1080 -pass 1 -passlogfile "/tmp/$output_filename" -row-mt 1 -speed 4 -f null /dev/null
ffmpeg -y -i "$video_file" -c:v libvpx-vp9 -b:v "${bitrate}k" -an -vf scale=-1:1080 -pass 2 -passlogfile "/tmp/$output_filename" -row-mt 1 -speed 4 -fs "${max_size_mb}M" "$output_file"
notify-send -u low -t 2000 "4chan webm" "Finished converting webm, filename: $output_filename"
---

I have added this as an entry to thunar, so I can right click a file to convert it to a 4chan webm. The input file has to be reasonable, like 30 seconds long and not 5 minutes long. Btw, you can use losslesscut (or even ffmpeg) to cut a longer video into a smaller one, losslessly and instantly since it doesn't have to re-encode it

Splitgate 2, per anon's recommendation.
The game works flawless, I was just interested in the invasiveness of the anticheat, since on windows it's kernel - level. Like how much can it do and where is it working?

I ran it through Proton as well, from when I understand the Windows anti-cheats don't run kernel level, but instead user mode. Maybe it'll be able to see your documents if its going though your folders that have accessible permissions, but not being able to scan your memory or root/inaccessible folders. Hopefully someone smarter than me can answer you.

Even if it is a virus, isn't it likely that you've just installed a virus to your Wine prefix?
I don't know how common it is for malicious Windows executables to check if they're running in Wine and then try to escape into Linux.

I've heard ransomeware can hit your home directory if the wine prefix links to it, but since I run Common Sense 2025 I have of course never experienced it myself.

Not the case for prefixes created by Steam and Bottles though.
