I already replied to this, but to add some more, Lightning was actually really good after she got her update in FR era, and she was good at some point in Lufenia prior to that. He could have tried to do some Lightning solos.

Have only been posting in this general for a year now. Came to the general after completing FFXIII for the first time to share my thoughts and ended up becoming an infamous Lightning poster. I did not play all that many other Final Fantasy games before FFXIII. Just VIII, X, XV, Remake, VII, Rebirth, and XVI. I did not/do not play mobile games either. So I couldn't possibly have played a phone game that'd already been EoS'd months before I had ever arrived here. Months before I became invested in Lightning as a character. And I'm supposed to have played this phone game in order to prove myself a "real fan" to some angry little shitposter on the internet, kek. Buying and playing almost all of the mainline games including all the classics just in the last year or two? It means nothing to play these console Final Fantasy games that cost real money.

I have no doubt that Opera Omnia was a fun game though. I've seen a lot of very positive opinions about the game. I just never played it. My favorite is VIII. 3D, ATB. I played FFXIII on launch on PS3, but I only ever really saw bits and pieces. It was my brothers game. I remember lots of parts of the game, but never actually knew what was going on. I thought the gameplay was boring to play, but I really liked the aesthetic. I only sat down to play it and beat the game last year. I was emotionally moved by the game. I decided that not only was it one of my new favorites, but I became dedicated to discussing the game as openly and earnestly as possible in here, in an ATTEMPT to beat back the negative stigma associated to the game. But I don't lie about the game(s), not intentionally. I recognize the many problems and mistakes. I recognize a lot of people hate Lightning. Absolutely, touch controls are why I'm not fond of playing games on a phone. The handheld form factor helps a lot though obviously, pixel art Command based RPGs are perfect for handhelds. I think Pixel Remaster is worth it. New music, all the artwork, updated UI and pixel perfect, beautiful backgrounds. The original FF1 pixel artist was the supervisor, so the style of the characters from game to game is slightly different from the original. But overall, all 6 games look visually cohesive which is super nice when you look at them all together.

In no particular order:
-VII: Great cast of characters. Great soundtrack. Materia and limit breaks are fun. Midgar is one of my favorite locations in all of video games. Remake and Rebirth are all great as well but I won't be counting them as separate games.
-IV: My first, Objectively it can barely even be called an RPG due to near-complete lack of customizability but I'll always have a bias towards it due to it being my first one. Battle with the Four Fiends is still probably my favorite FF boss theme to this day.
-VI: Insanely huge game for the SNES. Great characters. Massive world. Fairly mature plot. Kefka is a standout villain.
-XIII-2: While the story was probably a downgrade compared to XIII, I really enjoyed the time traveling and the smaller more focused cast of characters. Serah, Noel, and Mog are much more likable protagonists than the cast of XIII. Changing the past and going to altered future timelines was a neat concept.
-XIV: Played this one for nearly a decade. Phenomenal characters and story, even if they're a bit uneven at times. Emet-Selch and Zenos. Dawntrail was a bit of a kick in the nuts. I'm not sure when or even if I'll return to this game, but I'll always treasure the story I experienced.
Applies to all of the above: 10/10 soundtracks

Hall of Shame: XVI. Boring characters. Boring story. Generic world. Mediocre action game. Almost as much of a non-RPG as IV.

Well I finished OG FF7 and completed a lot of the optional challenges like beating the weapons with parties of frogs (incredibly tedious, but not particularly challenging). It was fun. I can see why boomers hold it in such high regard. I think I would’ve liked the plot more if it’d turned out Cloud really was a mass of Jenova cells instead of a real person. It could’ve led to an interesting exploration of concepts like biological destiny vs free will. Probably in the minority but it made me appreciate the remakes a bit more.

Cloud was a nobody. His "biological destiny" as you put it, was basically a dead end. Not good enough to be a SOLDIER at all. But he still defeated Sephiroth, the GOAT, with nothing but magical friendship, "free will". His brain becoming liquid scrambled eggs by Hojo and reforming itself with JENOVA was actually super easy for him to get over, barely an inconvenience. Body pumped full of Mako and JENOVA? No sweat, he was ready to do backflips as soon as he saw Tifa. Suddenly he's capable of wielding a massive buster sword effortlessly and pulling off insane 1st Class moves he had never ever trained before once his boo thing finally notices him.

Otherwise, great post and I agree with basically everything. It has some problems but overall it's an obvious 9/10 even 30 years later.

I disagree with you, Chaos poster. I like the way Nomura/Dissidia's style is merged with the old chibi model style. Very good style for Final Fantasy, especially a spin off. Just like in other Dissidia games, there is a very strong cohesiveness to the Nomura art style too, which is not easy to pull off when you're talking about adapting all those characters from 1-15 and the spinoffs and their alternate outfits.

From what I can gather, Maehiro is director of Ivalice Chronicles. Not Yoshida. Yoshida's name doesn't seem to be anywhere on any official material. Yoshinori Kitase did more work for the Final Fantasy VIII Remaster, than Matsuno or Yoshida have done for Tactics. Here's what I'm using. Equal opportunity coom and pretty much only on alternate outfits. If Aerith and Yuffie and Tifa are all barefoot, then so are Cloud and Barret lol. Everything here is pretty good. Though I think some of the gameplay ones are redundant/overwritten by others.

Definitely check out the music mods that tweak all the different story moments/towns/fields with a bit more faithful tracks that maintain the tone from the original.
