I think Japanese writers just struggle to write stories where the cast changes over time. A group dynamic is set up and generally there is no deviation. Characters that are introduced later, if at all, do not really rock the boat. In Persona games you see how generally the best case scenario is a character at the end of the game is introduced and does nothing. When this isn't the case, it usually feels like the cast quickly starts bending over backward to accommodate the new characters.

Hard disagree, they’re pretty fun games. What about the gameplay loop do you not like? Going out into “unknown dangerous area” -> exploring, learning how to get in further, fighting battles where you can die almost always -> returning to safety with a greater understanding of the dungeon and loot -> upgrading your team incrementally -> repeat is a really solid loop imo. And the progress you make in the game is very visceral given you can see the map becoming more and more filled in, things that were once insurmountable threats becoming first beatable with strategy and then commonplace is really great.

Nothing you say could ever change my lived experience with these video games over the years that I've took out the time to try and play them. Your experience is different than mine. And maybe once I complete the other games, I will feel differently. But as of right now from where I'm standing, Persona 4 is just better than the other games with the time I've put in. Not to say the other games are bad, they obviously are not.. But I like how the characters look more in 4, they feel real and I love the glasses when exploring shadow world. I like how the UI looks more, the yellow is absolutely gorgeous on the eyes. I like how the characters act more, they feel real and have insecurities and their relationships feel tangible and are strengthened through their shared turmoils. I like the way the story is more closely focused on these character dynamics. I like the way the dungeons are reflections of the cast members inner struggle in a shadow world TV show, rather than cartoon dungeons based around villain of the week, or an endless dark hallway with almost zero variety. I like the music more as something I can easily listen to endlessly on a loop. I like the way they have to climb into a big flatscreen at the department store.

Yes and no. Look at say the Resident Evil remakes that came out recently (okay probably like a year or two ago idk it feels recent to me). Those were massive - bigger than anything else that came out in that period by far.
It’s very much an individual thing - you can’t sweep it up into general trends.

Yukiko oneshot me with double fangs. Pixie with her is impossible due to the fire weakness, but I made it just fine with Sylpth. I got extremely lucky with finding rakunda as a skill card. I've prepared a slime with growth 1, hopefully it won't take too long to get to level 8 for High Pixie preparations.

As a fan on FES, I would say P3R was a bad remake, but it has really good Steam reviews and presumably sold really well. While myself and other veterans of the series would probably agree that P3R was a bad remake, it's undeniable that it succeeded with the normie/P5 only crowd.
