Reminder that you can't define what a "good game" is and you're just a normie who's way out of his depth. You will never join the chosen ones on the plain of enlightenment. You're only a small insignificant humanoid born to follow orders and get his mind impregnated by the thoughts and opinions of greater men.
>>527035339You have to define a vague abstract term otherwise it just means whatever you feel it means in the given moment. This is why games can't be objectively ranked based on "fun" because "fun" is going to feel different to different people.
A game that one person calls borning can be the most interesting game to come out in years to another person. I know this because we observe it all the time. I observe it with myself in relation to others. A player who finds sports games fun isn't going to automatically like RPGs or shooters.
Guess what, in the discord and this community most of the posters quietly rand and evaluate games not based on overall quality but on a personal perception of "fun", this is what "genre bias" means. You need to learn about it.
>>527035516I think it varies by hardware and they just resorted to using RTX instead of their own code they made
>>527034284 (OP)How many times are you faggots going to let fygoon make the thread early to literally shit on it?
It was made when the thread still had 30 posts to go, this is grounds for reporting and making a new one.
>>527035747Oh wow you discovered people have different preferences and likes. Good job.
>>527035747Fun is flow, and a factor is player's skill as well as how quickly their skill improves as they play.
>>527035906no one was stopping you from making a proper one
>>527036102Your best might not be enough to achieve success.
>>527035964I didn't discover different people have different tastes. I discovered that the fact that different people have different tastes is aggressively ignored and overlooked in this community and games that are otherwise very high quality are stomped into the dirt because they don't meet the arbitrary criteria of the majority of devs here (who skew towards interests of developers and 4chan users). There's overrepresentations of people here that like anime games, or old school games, or mech games, and these people decide what should get attention and what shouldn't and this is never called into question, even thought there are enormous niches and markets out there that these people will call completely unappealing.
So they should not be listened to, because they are not some objective arbiter of absolute truth and taste. Every single developer here only understands two things: Quality of superficial presentation (flashiness), and games in their preferred genres, again often superficially. These aren't your customers. These aren't your audience. So your game can't be judged and evaluated by the other devs here, but they pretend like that's the case. Our opinions don't mean anything. Go to your audience. A lot of their opinions might not mean anything. The fact is, a good game can fly under the nose of even the most experienced hardened industry veteran. It's not as easy as 1 2 3. If it was, there would be a hell of a lot more success stories. Most of you have no idea what you're doing.
>>527036478this was made 30 posts early
>>527036654>a good game can fly under the nose of even the most experienced hardened industry veteranactual skill issue, just learn marketing lmao
>>527036662and someone probably reported it, but it often doesn't matter because /vg/ mods are lazy about deleting new threads.
In the future you can
1. Make a proper thread
2. Link it
It's not a difficult concept
everybody's a critic these days...
>>527036332Flow is different based on the player's tastes, his skill level, and other external factors. You can't perfectly design flow unless you innovate a completely new genre and perfectly design it for the entry level player. This is what vampire survivors owes its success to, and it's also why clones don't perform as well as the original. The original captures a lot of the possible audience, and once they are no longer entry level it's not the same, therefore they will have a different experience than other players and this dilutes the width of the flow corridor.
Who would enjoy your game?
>>527035906im not him. im making these out of protest against the enshittification of OP images. it's my art piece. if not for the turd you or that faggot would just use a turd image just not a literal turd anyways

>>527037084>when? 50 posts early?when the current active thread hits bump limit.
Reminder that Deltarune makes bold and offensive decisions that would be right at home in 4chan while you make nothing but sanitized, family-friendly games.
>>527037084unironically yes because nortubel will shit out threads way before then too
also it's up to the posters and people to decide where they post mostly within a timeframe, if you make a good OP it will usually beat other threads
>>527037054*different sensations
>>527036973>You can't perfectly design flowdopamine optimized games like slots, videopoker, pachinko, roguelike of the months are addictive because a fastpaced skinnerbox leads to flowstate consistently... so you can definitely design a perfect flow you just cant do it without being a drugdealing piece of shit with no ethics
>>527036973Yes. This is why genres exists. This is why despite appearing to be competently made and high production value, every 3D platformer released on Steam will flop, but will sell just fine on Switch and Roblox. Steam has a specific audience consisting mostly of adult males who enjoy crafty buildy simulators with generous amounts of gamba, juice, and appeal. VS beats most of its competition in terms of absolute amount of content, and Steam gamers love replayability and content.

You could catch an OP making a new thread and immediately shitposting in it or calling himself a fag, going so far as to criticize the OP for missing links or vandalism despite being the same person who just made that post.
An anon once posted a webm where they scrolled through a 600+ post thread revealing they were responsible for 1 out of every 5 posts, samefagging against and in favor of their own posts and bragging how many people respond to them.
The mental illness and nodev behaviour here is absolutely heinous so its not schizophrenic to believe every useless post you see is coming from one retard.

>>527041963Oh that's interesting. Is it true that if you want to make a game multi player you should design it for that, from the start? As in, networking code is spread throughout the game logic? A something like that? I never did it. Probably will someday.

Developmental progression.
Mostly did bug fixing. Fixed some annoying bugs I made months ago and only discovered until now and rewrote some stuff, but it is working as intended. The only problem I can see is a string variable not being fully cleared and replaced with a 0, which I am not sure what is going on there. I might have to rewrite some stuff to include forced clears if a slot is empty or turned into a 0 when it should be a string.
The AI system so far has no impact on performance, I ran a stress test and even in impossible conditions where 100+ AIs are going at once, it ran extremely quickly. I also made sure every part of it works, and it does.
>>527042118That's what I have been doing. It's been absolute hell learning this. Making an authoritative game server sucks. You can never trust the players so you have to send everything to the server have the server check it and get back to the player....
Then on the client side you have to let the player move right away (because nobody likes lag) then reconcile with the server, and then pass it back to the client.
My first few attempts were to have all inputs be sent to the server, then have the server handle the world state and then pass it out to the clients. I don't like any perception of lag. So, I'm having the client do everything, If the client cheats, the client cheats. Detection will be serverside.
This article and the following examples have been crucial to helping me understand how to do networking: https://www.gabrielgambetta.com/entity-interpolation.html
>>527042706I would like to point out that this is the _WRONG_ way to do networking. But it is the fastest. By having the networking in first, I can hammer it out quicker. Every single time I've tried to make game with pygame, godot, and love. I make something single player. Struggle to make it multiplayer and give up. This time, I'm doing the networking first.
>>527042706The game I envision would likely be co-op, so I wouldn't necessarily need an authoritative server. But I would still have to learn how to have the player be the host and all that. But for me that is years away. But it's cool to see others doing it. It's a skill I wish I had. Just in case I ever come up with a co-op idea for mobile or something
>>527037926Look man you'd have a point if you made the shit thread on bump limit since no one else made it, but doing it so many posts early shows you're a petty asshole forcing us to break board rules and make multiple threads just to satisfy your terminally online sociopathic needs.

If you can understand the problem that you're solving, and apply it across domains, you get 10x the productivity and ability, but people with low IQ have difficulty seeing the same principle in different contexts, so they can't apply what they've 'learned' outside the confines of a tutorial.
The Phenomenon of "Tutorial Hell" makes a lot more sense when you realize that it's just a great IQ filter for game dev, not that low IQ people can't make games, they just have to recognize that they need to do the reach back into the underlying abstraction: reading directly from documentation, learning C# instead of just learning Unity, things like that.

Anyone know godot 3d physics? Using 4.4 and jolt physics, but default has the same issue.
I'm trying to add physics to a character, and if I don't skip not one but TWO physics frames since setting the position for the character node tree while physics are off, the rigidbodies go crazy after calling physical_bones_start_simulation on the physicalbonesimulator3d node. Okay, I can understand skipping one (though I really expected just setting the position for the tree before calling for it to start in the same frame would be ok), but why two? Does it like, need two frames to get the velocity of the moving rigidbodies or something?
Also, while it's nice to have a node hiding the mess of joints and physicalbone3ds, why is physicalbonesimulator3d needed at all if any skeleton3d has a physical_bones_start_simulation method? Like, what's the point of the physicalbonesimulator3d node? Is it for applying physics after controlling the bones using custom SkeletonModifier3D constraints or something?

Or the development of stuff like the wheel, the hammurabi code, the invention of the tunnel.
Also things like sausages and beer come from this era I think.
From summerians we have the myth of gilgamesh.
Summer was a civilization that was alone until It died after 2k years and later it became assyrians and babilonians.

The gist of it, is that childrens in godot are in front of their parents.
So you need to have something like the mouse filter set to allow or pass in the nodes that are on top of whoever you want to control.
Color rects also can block the mouse, as well as transparent control nodes.

>>527077662I don't think that they're creatively bankrupt, I'm sure a few of them have original ideas.
The problem is that they have absolutely no confidence in those original ideas, and would rather copy something that was successful.
Then there's different levels of copying. Take a look at two of our resident e-celeb devs, Sasquatch B and Stardew Valley guy.
Stardew Valley is a clone of Harvest Moon and some other farming game. While it's a copy, there is a decent amount of depth to it, and it's pretty obvious that the dev at least cared about his project, despite the foundation not being an original idea.
Now, let's look at Sasquatch B. I know of two games that he has either made or is making, Cropolution and that Avocado game.
Cropolution is literally "what if.... Stardew Valley, without the charm??"
And the Avocado game is basically "LOL how funny and le quirky would it be if I took Binding of Isaac... But I made him into an avocado??? LMAO Well memed, right, friendos??"
One is basically a passion project built on top of an existing game's ideas. The other is the game dev equivalent to kenyan helicopters. They look at a picture of a helicopter, and think if they make something that *looks* like a helicopter, that it will be, in fact, a helicopter.
