Why the fuck does Gaster even want the Deltarune? To what end? Toby is going to have to actually introduce Gaster as a character sooner rather than later with how much he has infested Deltarune or he's only going to confuse people who aren't terminally online and glued to Gaster lore dumps. If you had no internet access and played Undertale and Deltarune, you'd have essentially zero understanding at this point of who Gaster even is. You might not know he exists AT ALL. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but he is the marionette manipulating the entire fucking plot of Deltarune at this point. Everything leads back to him and his influence is so heavy his leitmotiff has permeated half the fucking soundtrack. If he just puts him in the final chapter as a """""surprise""""" it's just going to be jarring.

It's hard to not notice how it stands out further and further from the rest of the game as the least content-dense and polished part. Also taking it has the fewest amount of characters involved. I think chapter 1 suffers too much from the time it was made requiring it to push the message this isn't Undertale 2, from the contrast to the UT characters to the whole idea behind 'your choices don't matter' to the point you can't change how the chapter's outcome is whether through ACTing or violence.
On the other hand, I appreciate there's a comfy feeling of beginning of an adventure where things are still just growing

A work's popularity says nothing about its actual quality and whether you personally resonate with it or not.
I think some of you guys focus too much on how a thing you like isn't popular enough, that you don't think about the lasting consequences of that popularity.
A good chunk of Undertale's "fanbase" were secondaries who just saw a trend to capitalize on, or pretended they played the game to be "part" of a conversation. It also invited some of the most obnoxious "fiction = reality" shitters who brought in discourse I would never wish on other fandoms.
Obviously, there's people like that in Deltarune's fandom too. But the popularity it reached does feel more organic(due to the first 2 chapters being free and all). I'd rather have artists that draw because they're passionate for the game than because it's popular.
Anyways complaining that Deltarune isn't UNDERTALE popular is the greed you'd find in the bible, so many fans of actually niche games wish they had 1/10th of Deltarune's numbers. Even though AUtism has died down, I can look at my socmed feed and people I know who normally don't post about video games are posting about Deltarune, it's unavoidable.
