People can have a preference for one or the other, so I think it makes sense to include both options.

The photo Max travels to (Dead World or a variation of it) has no indication that there's a storm, it just sort of appears and the Safi in that photo alludes to already experiencing the same storm or many storms. The overall story is on D9 while SE was asking for many changes. Like turning Loretta into a puppy or having a male romance.
Then again, SE supposedly asked to cut the game in two, so more changes.
And when you change a dialogue in ep4 or 5, you got to go back and try to match everything with the new thing, so even more work.
The ending doesn't know where it wants to go either.
The entire project is a mess by SE and D9.

It happens all the time.
Publisher wants to reach a new audience and asks for specific curated content (and DE feels like a checklist).
The game is not what the core fanbase wants (in DE's case, the story, the mood, the accent on powers and the Chloe thing).
The game is not good enough to attract that new audience.
It fails. There is no real interest for the new settings. A direct sequel would be foolish.

If it were one of, like, four DLCs where we got similar experiences as Ryan, Gabe, and Riley I think it would help the game a ton. I think the funniest thing from all this is the no Chloe no baying meme. It really exploded in the Fandom and that image of Max with the camera brings it all back. At the time I figured Chloe had to be in the game and they were hiding Chloe intentionally for hype because the entire six months of de was fans obsessively talking about Chloe. On discord and reddit and Twitter I saw people getting annoyed because all anybody talked about was Chloe.

It's truly insane SE London didn't predict that. Max was the star of lis1 yes but Chloe was a lead too and she starred in bts. And this game was set in the future so naturally fans expected to see the girls together.

It's just hard to process how this happened. We say that over and over but it's hard to work out. It's a self inflicted gun shot wound then they did with a smile on their faces. On social media they went from days before seeking out Pricefield cosplayers to show off to treating Chloe like she didn't exist for almost a year before sheepishly posting her and getting attacked and now they don't even bother on Twitter anymore

It's like obviously this would happen. How was SE London pushing d9 to make things worse and worse by removing more references to Chloe *according to ladydev* and removing her from the game entirely this is another level of incompetence it's actually deranged. All this debate is stupid. At the end of the damn day lis1 sold the best because it blew up among YouTube gamers like Pewdiepie AND attracted a wide audience due to the time power mechanic and the emotional story between Max and Chloe (regardless on whether you ship them or not) as the entire game is about Max and Chloe. The game released at a perfect time blew up in the online space and the combo of Max and Chloe's story because the first game is about them plus the time travel power blew it all up.

Lis1 just had more going for it. I like the other titles but lis1s combo of power and story set it apart.

Which is why them bringing Max back without the heart of the first game (which is Chloe even if you guys hate her here she is the heart of lis1 since the entire damn game is about her) so bringing Max back without the heart yeah it crashed and burned. They were never getting a new audience. They needed to pull back the old audience. People like jacksepticeye for example gave up on the lis series but I suspect a return of Max and Chloe would potentially have even gotten him to play it. They needed to make this something old fans wanted to play to garner more attention. They gambled for a new audience and lost everything lol
