I just didn't really like the damage taken/damage dealt ratio. You melt everything in SotE and they one shot you, which was a problem I also had with base ER to a lesser degree. Nightreign feels more in line with dark souls fight pacing which just feels a bit better

both deal 200 damage against heolstor on average with the edge going for notl. but holy on starting weapon will easily out damage it if you get a few decent passives. best notl run I had an erdtree bow with a ton of affinity bonuses and I was hitting for 247, best holy on starting weapon run I was hitting for 227.
for some reason elemental damage ramps up around level 12 and starts hitting like a truck against everything while notl stays consistent throughout

Haven't played Elden Ring since release, got the DLC and playing a fresh playthrough. Trying out unga bunga greatsword front flip nonsense and while it's really satisfying against enemies I can pancake with the flip or launch while mounted, I don't enjoy it against big bosses. Any suggestions for a weapon that's mostly strength that is more enjoyable against big bosses? I have a little extra points in dex and faith as well.

Marais Executioner Sword, Bloodfiend's Arm, and Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword are all really great and you can swap "builds" between them with some talisman and maybe a helmet swaps.

Honestly, I think I already got bored of Nightreign, despite the promise of replayability through randomization, it feels just as samey as playing any random Souls, but with an almost infinitely lesser amount of weapon, spell and armor customization.
Mages are by far the worst in this regard, because at least the melee guys play more or less the same, often with improvements like Wylder's hook and Ironeye's bow moveset, but casters going from having 10 spell slots and an entire arsenal of elemental infused weapons with matching skills in Elden Ring to using one or two spells at most and no weapons just feels like ass.

It's pretty fun for the first 20 hours though, I'll pick it up again once more characters are released.

Mountain is great. Several bosses and really easy to beeline between them since you can spiritspring jump/climb all over the mountain in no time. Final dragon boss is trivialized just by picking up the mountain power before fighting him. Beats having to run all around the rot woods on foot to pick up the power and then hit up all the bosses.

City is easily the best though. Free revive for the entire team and even going there late on day 2 you've still got enough time to run right to astel, kill him, and take out another boss or two on the way out.

Then, he tries to fight the rune bears, but he sees the rain and books it, too.

You'll slice the initial hit to a manageable amount and the second hit gets reduced by a reasonable amount. Post attack recovery lets you regain that to return to full hp if you stack it with successive hits.

I usually just go for a combination of the defensive passives. If I don't get those I hyper stack the offensive ones instead. Low Life negation is also valuable. I'm assuming it works how it usually does and it applies to hits that would kill you, reducing them to amounts that won't kill you if the effect is strong enough.
