It's also why most of them are trannies. Because they were raised by gutter trash single mothers with no male influence. So they only ever learned how to act like women. >>527164010It's just because I'm using VRR on a 120hz display. I'm sure it's fine if you vsync it to 60, which is effectively what setting an external frame limiter is doing. Dolphin's frame pacing just sucks unless there's something else locking it down, be it your monitor's vsync or a limiter. Play a sidescrolling shmup using a VRR monitor and you'll see it.

Oh I remember this one. It's the tactical horror Lovecraft game. I saw a YouTube video years ago of some long haired freak pretending to be a woman talking about how it's some mysterious hidden gem from the far off Orient and of course it allegedly couldn't be emulated with primitive Western technology. I'm sure he or his friends weren't just trying to pump it on the second hand market. Seems to work fine though that background gradient is pretty bad.
Even if the Switch 2 somehow gets emulated, I'm extremely nervous about those Denuvo-based Switch 2 titles...

CRT tech in general horizontally blurs. You could use a shittier cable but unless you mess with the TV's color way beyond standard those bars'll be there. It's just inherently a shitty gradient here. I'm the PS1 could do better, or they could have applied a composite mesh pattern.

If I worked in QA I think I'd blow my brains out. I choose to do this and it's a pain in the ass. I can't imagine doing the same thing for software I don't give a shit about. >>527413701I don't foresee Nintendo tapes plummeting that far, but yeah, eventually the fucks will dry up for them. Or their wives/gfs convince them of it. The ones that don't come to this will likely blast their brains all over them and their family will sell them off in a hurry. One way or another it's gotta pop.
>>527316734No one in the world has these?
Atari stuff was actually, yknow, objectively bad and primitive. Only their early arcade and 8bit computer games were any good, and the latter's a real acquired taste.
>>527419217Marble Madness is still better than Sonic 3D Blast.
>>527419339Agreed, like I said: their early arcade games. Atari Games of the early to mid 80s were fantastic.
Western game design was weirdly super-solid in the early 80s, then was shit and stayed shit til the indie era. I wonder why? Maybe that boomer pinball design mindset helped them make compelling score based games.
>>527419501I hear Marble Madness' sequel was fucking weird, though. Apparently they modified the controls to make it more console-like.
>>527419943Oh yeah it's trash as it was rumored to be for years. Was still wild to finally play it MAME. What's funny is it definitely had YT footage of it running on a MAME driver with MAME menus for years. It was CLEARLY a case of private driver made for the owner that was hoarded. I need to dredge up the video. It was from 2016-17 though.
I wish we got the trackball proto. Joystick controls for such a game are stinky. Guess they decided it would work better with the dash mechanic, though.
>>527420967Maybe it can be hacked with trackball support baked in, that's a good possibility.
>>527419650>Maybe that boomer pinball design mindset helped them make compelling score based games. Most likely, explains why they're so damn difficult.
https://youtu.be/HeM8QkAgWS4?t=971
Newer than I thought it was, but this was months before the public release of Marble Madness 2 driver or any announcement that it would be coming out. The driver likely existed privately for the holders of the board/ROMs for ages. Probably a number of these cases.
>>527428001I can't tell what pisses me off more; hoarders, or hoarders masquerading as "preservationists."
>>527432003The pretense is a little aggravating. Maybe now and then devs have to negotiate with these slobs, so maybe it isn't all a circle jerk.

I genuinely want to see an autistic, greentext breakdown from ciggy himself on this video. It would be a fun read.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmcFvZLQgKo
>gamma for ios
Not ciggy, but it seems like you've got a new emu to test. Would be funny if games that don't work properly in Duckstation happen to work fine in Gamma.
>>527707264Games that are broken in more accurate emulators often work in less accurate ones because instead of emulating parts of the system wrong, they just skip them entirely or replace them with a hack.
>>527707264From what I've tracked of ciggy's tracking, Duckstation has most of the outlier flaws Mednafen has, with a few of its own. Just about all the 'big' PS1 emus perform similarly with a smattering of unique fixes and flaws. Like Duckstation will run Monkey Hero but Mednafen won't. Then there are games that don't correctly on absolutely everything like Kattobi Tune. No$ and Xebra play the Mad Stalker intro properly. I highly doubt this iSlop is any different. It's also based on PCSX-R which is on the lower end of emulation accuracy, but runs on almost anything.
Hinky shit going on with the FPS counter.
>>527713273Almost like it doesn't know what to track with the VPS here, like the usual metrics aren't working at all. I presume the game itself is running normally and not halted.
>>527714862I wonder if it's doing some genuine software/CPU driven rendering here on hardware. Does it scroll/zoom rather choppily for what it is? Does it seem to "draw" in?
>>527715250No choppiness that I can see. It bounces between 0 and 1 FPS as the graphics change from day to night but other than that it's flat 0.
Someone on the tracker made a report about Dead Or Alive (USA) doing the same thing.
PCSX2's PS1 mode is really strange. It's like they haven't worked on it since they added it. Wonder why they bothered, maybe to improve PS2 games that use that chip?
>>527719268>maybe to improve PS2 games that use that chip?Possibly, I'm aware Jak X doesn't work on software-emulated PS3 consoles because it's one of the few PS2 games to use one of the PS1's chips.
>>527719405Oh yeah, forgot the PS2 slims that cut out PS1 backwards compatibility entirely. A sad day for Jakbros on a slim.
Am I blind or you can't actually disable fit to screen in PCSX2? If I'm not, is there any way to disable it in the INI files or something? I just want it to show actual (in my case 2X) render size when I enter full screen.
>>527720882Doesn't seem so in full screen, but you can enable integer scaling in the options which will give you clean nearest neighbor multiples, if you're worried about scaling blur. It'll scale your 2x up honestly without fucking with the render.
You could also do this by rendering to a separate window at 1x/2x or whatever and using an external full screen scaler too. Seems a little silly unless you really want a tiny window in black space, and it's doing the same job with more steps if you make it integer-scale.
>>527721841Yes, integer scaling is what I had in mind, but I'm on 1.7.3 because Windows 7, so it's not an option for me.
>>527722050https://github.com/Darthagnon/pcsx2-win7/releases/tag/v1.7.3024b
Try one of these out. Not completely up-to-date but at least runs with most of the modern niceties, including integer scaling. One of those should work on 7. There are apparently ways to hex edit or drop a dxgi wrapper to make plain PCSX2 run in 7 but I don't have 7 around to test that at the moment. This seems easier.
If none of those builds work you take a windowed render and throw it through this:
https://tanalin.com/en/projects/integer-scaler/ or older versions of Magpie or Lossless Scaling.
>>527722793Qt version with new interface and integer scaling option doesn't even launch unfortunately, and wxWidgets one is actually much older than my nigger-rigged 1.7.3555. Oh well.
>>527722793>>527723957Hold up, I actually am blind. There is IntegerScaling setting in GS.ini and it works just fine. Guess they never got around to add to it to the GUI.
>>527723957Oh, it looks like the integer scaling setting is in gs.ini even in 1.7.x
>>527723957I believe you have to run the non-AVX2 version in Win7, but I dunno.
Can sorta simulate the Activity Meter but it's annoying manually defining responses. It's also weird because the game disconnects regularly during communication and expects the device to reconnect. But if you do it too much it just infinitely loops the same requests.
Definitely would be better to emulate it. I think it runs on the same HW as the Pokewalker, so you could work off a pre-existing emulator. But the ROM for the thing just isn't available anywhere. Will probably pick one up some time since they're cheap and the method of dumping its ROM is easy.
Thanks to the guy that reported this. Happens when you open the status screen, scroll over and then scroll back. She looks like Bleh from Drawn Together.
This one's odd. The game runs at 30 but the character animations are 60. So whenever this chick's on screen she moves like the Flash.
In your issue tracker, can you note what emus these do work in? That's more important than what Matt won't fix.
>>527758682I'm not downloading and testing half a dozen broken down abandonware emulators for every game. I usually note whether or not something works in Mednafen though. That game's not broken though. It's like that on HW.
I also make a note in my spreadsheet of things that seem like emulation bugs but happen on console.
>>527758914I see, well, so long as you're trying/noting at least one alternative. I may make some github throwaway and try a few others I already have set up on my PC at some point. I'm interested in getting these games to work one way or another. Stenzek just seems to do his own thing or whatever his discord kittens want, so I'd rather just know the workarounds. It's also worth nothing cases like Kattobi Tune where no emu on this planet works regardless of settings.
It would also be good to document which things are fixed by underclocks like the FMV/audio cutoffs.
Of course, underclocks aren't a magic bullet as they usually are detrimental to some other element of the game, and are a clumsy fix for what's probably one element of the system emulated without delays. Still, it's nice to know.
I fucking hate old mac emulation so much.
Proprietary zip and cd format which breaks fi you even look at it in a windows environment.
Add to this that sheepshaver 3d rendering is absolute dogshit.
Anybody have a link of something that comes preinstalled with games?
>>527759348See if you can find an emu that doesn't crash after watching an FMV and quitting back to the main menu in Ray-Ray CD-ROM. Ducky and Med both hard crash so I assume others do as well.
>>527759735I'm sure such a thing's on Internet Archive. What is your particular problem? Can you not extract/install from some StuffIt archive? Having trouble mounting a disc? What game?
Alps Hen renders garbage on the right side of the screen that shouldn't be there. I assume other emus do as well but there's no way to know because ducks' the only one that can boot it.
>>527759919My problem is how this shit is annoying for everything. No, you can't use new stuffit on older stuff without issues.
Mounting toast images is a pain in the ass because every single program decides to cause microstutters/crashes if the toast actually has audio files for some reason.
It just means having to keep multiple os versions with multiple software and it is annoying.
As for games, descent has a ton of missing effects, especially when it comes to cloak.
I just feel that the hassle is not worth it when it comes to exclusives or interesting ports.
I wish there was a way to boot PS1 images from a thumb drive on a softmodded PS2. Before some smart guy responds, there is a way, but that just boots to the POPS emulator instead of using PS2's PS1 hardware. I wonder how much a PS1 with an ODE would set me back. I'm sure clumsily soldering it in like I'm building a bomb or some shit is lotsa fun; only done a couple soldering jobs. Burning CDs feels like such wasteful caveman shit.
>>527760346It really isn't worth it from my experience. Mac emulation seems to be better for casual/2D/edutainment type stuff. Marathon had really janky mouse aiming when I last tried it too. It's a fun toy to get going just because classic MacOS is so strange, or perhaps nostalgic because a lot of school PCs had it. You have to *really* note what Mac generation the software you're trying calls for.
In truth all mid-to-late 90s computer emulation is rough. PCem/9x is in a better state than 68k/PPC mac emus, though.
>>527760346Don't bother with QEMU either; been down that road too. You'll lose your soul getting it all working with sound, it's slower, and it's just as janky.

Does it even work on a PS2? Are Sony's hardware engineers also incompetent? probably
I'm just saying going for the throat with "incompetent", even though all you seem to do is play emulated PS1 games (a shocking amount of them to the credits), is just a little mean. Have you done a single thing in your adult life that would get a 95% grade, let alone emulate a console? I just think a certain amount of respect is due, even if emudevs are unlikable as a rule or may have slighted you. Some competence is required to have enjoyed PS1 emulation to the extent you have. Words have meaning.
Obtusely defiant and socially inept, maybe, but I dunno about incompetent. I'd wave that around to more modern machine emulation, though.
>>527965183You're right I should distinguish terms better. Incompetent is regressions like breaking the SCPH1000 BIOS or the health Bar in Gamera 2000. Or the OSD which has been fucked for over two weeks. Lazy is not bothering to emulate something as basic as a cheat code you can activate by holding L1. Disingenuous is crying poverty as an excuse to not add support for peripherals when you're a millionaire with a retro game selling business and own boxes of them.
At this point emulation is so stagnant and the people running it so mentally deranged and nakedly corrupt I'd be willing to be a good little paypig cuck and just give them money for some basic fucking progress. I'd pay someone to add support for the Music Maestro Baton or the Hotei Guitar pick or the Minimomi tambourine for the sake of completeness and preservation.
Ain't the PS1 neat. So many obscure peripherals.

>>527966760Been suggesting as much if you really want someone to roll their sleeves up and do it. You'd be amazed how much home renovations and repairs cost these days, let alone software engineering on this level. Maybe my standards are low but I'm happy with what's available for free for PS1. It would be nice if devs listened and bothered to fix the issues you've found, but one can still have a good time between the many free and mostly-complete emus out there, and you can wish in one hand, etc etc. You've said yourself, it's very close to perfect or perceptably perfect, it's just they can't/won't do the last 3-5% to get there. That said I'm still curious about whatever all-emu or suspected all-emu issues you can find.

Which CAVE shmups do we have accurate slowdown emulation for these days? Has there been any progress on CV1000?
>>527975972FBNeo and MAME have blitter delays properly implemented now. I don't have boards and shit to tell, nor have I compared them to console counterparts, but it does seem to slow down when things get hairy. I recommend trusting but confirming this.
It's really kind of typical and shitty of the Japs to make a game so rushed and linked to hardware cycles like this. I know, it's an arcade game, it only has to run properly on that set of chips. It creates more work for them later when they have to add simulated delays to ports (which are often stuttery compared to the original) and I bet they've had issues with different runs of their hardware having ever-so-slightly different chips that are a little faster here, a little slower there.
There we go. Ski Air Mix (Europe) and the Jap version. Busted flickering graphics on the course select screen. Broken in duck, fine in med. Don't know about others.

>>527980642Ah dang I forgot Ares in the last battery of tests. Need to remember that.
I do wonder why exactly the L1 thing doesn't work, though. Maybe it doesn't carry some variable from BIOS to game? I dunno when it grabs the input or knows to play the trailer.
>>527981371Could be, considering not a single one of them emulates the BIOS correctly either. They've all got that echoing reverb garbage problem. The BIOS screen always ends either too early or too late depending on the game. The SCPH1000 in duckstation is a writeoff. It's broken graphically and according to several people randomly stops reading inputs in the menu. It's a mess across the board.
Ultraman Tiga for example is so fucked that it gets to the loading screen before gameplay and randomly starts blaring BIOS reverb. Like where the fuck is it even coming from at that point?

>>527951141So I took a glance at the PS4 version of this. It has a giant function to place stop instructions all over the rom. I'm assuming it's any place text is loaded. >>527928580You should instead be minding your system temps, Event Viewer -> Windows Log -> Hardware, and fucking with your setup until it's fixed. There's gotta be a reason. I'd try new chipset/video drivers, setting conservative RAM values, running as few background apps as possible, and make sure your cooling system is working right first.
As for a direct answer: Neither Dolphin or Retroarch has this setting (hilariously hizzlekizzle dismissed this saying Rewind is sufficient; so RA DOES have this capability with all the save state manipulation it already does, he just WONTFIX it), but you can set up an AutoHotkey script to hit the save state button every x minutes, or download a program like Auto Keyboard Presser.
Shit like this makes me 'get' ciggy. Dude, rewind and runahead already do ungodly more elaborate things with RA's save state functionality. You can't take 5 minutes to key in this little script?
Rewind doesn't even work in all cores, similar to runahead.
I wonder how the RNG is calculated in this game because when I played it in duck I was winning almost every spin but in Beetle PSX I'm winning practically never.

>emudev autism? There's plenty of it here, including one anon who's made various peripherals work for the DS. Another anon is working on their own GB emu, and I wish them good luck.
Emudev autism/defiance and ability, honestly. I think freetard software can only get you so far. There's the ciggy-tier cases of stupid peripherals and long-standing edge cases not getting fixed on an otherwise well emulated system, sure, but I just don't see Xbox, 3DS, or any >=7th gen machine getting emulated properly. You can throw NEETs at a proprietary mystery box and only get so much, and I think the glass ceiling is 6th gen. Low spec users and Nintendo can be ignored, largely.

>>528463536Got a YT link for that? I'd like to hear. Also, that's just what the PS1's supposed to do. It had the decoding hardware and storage to crank lots of FMV out, especially if you shit up the quality a bit. Not that the Pokemon FMV is special either. Rise of the Robots did that shit on SNES. The numbers all check out for each of these cases. RE2 is fairly special for compressing/decompressing that amount of FMV on the N64's meager processor and 64mb, though.

What's more impressive is how much $50 will get you. I snagged a NUC7i5BNB w/ a 7th gen i5 that'll do 6th gen just fine and is more than adequate for comfortable usage. I connected a USB-C powered monitor to it and it's a great lil work jerk-off station.

>>528511371*correct about it running that way on hardware and needing an OC in emulation
I wonder if Gameshark codes or mods to remove motion blur, bloom, and the fur 'shader' would make the game run at 30fps on PS2.
>>528511371I mean, the fps drops do make the colossi fights more intense, gives them a heavy feeling, if they intended that or not is anyone's guess. But yeah, what I mean is that's how it should be on HW, and emulators will reproduce that by default.
>>528486486Very few others, especially with N64 being the weakest link here. Hexen, Sim City 2K, Command & Conquer. Doom's a different campaign altogether.
I wonder why Quake didn't land on PS1. I feel like its software renderer look would have been a match for the hardware.

Crazy ambitious game for the hardware. The genre was rarely fully polygonal, even on PC, by 2000. It runs like shit, but still.
>>528411843I don't think that's normal. Except if the console ports on real hardware had that bug.
If not, then maybe the same people did the ports on different consoles and used weird code, so that different emulator devs of different consoles don't know how to fix them?
>>528518043I'm sure the mindset and flow was this: the original asset didn't fit in Sat memory or their engine (it's not the Build engine, it's the SlaveDriver/Powerslave one), they pulled some generic cityscape pic off the net or scanned one in, and in the process of converting it to a format suitable to the Saturn's hardware and their engine, it ended up looking like this. They then shrugged and decided tube/composite blur would trivialize it.
>>528518043cont.
It's not a bug, it's just the way the asset is. All the respectable emus display it that way and several hardware vids (surely at least one of them has to be true) show it that way too. It would be truly bizarre for it to be the exact same fuckup on all setups, if it's a bug, but crazier things have happened. I'm erring it on it just being that way, though.
I feel like one crucial thing to keep in mind in 90s testing was the devs were flying by the seat of their pants and just barely turning in something that runs. Since it was ugly in the best of cases they probably let a lot of asset flubs ride. The hardware itself was barely able to render a stable 3D scene, even when used properly.
Uki Uki Tsuri Tengoku - Ningyo Densetsu no Nazo (Japan) is the biggest piece of shit I've ever tested. There's a garbage buzzing noise that starts when you enter your name. It happens in duck, mednafen and Ares. I can't hear it in the Jap videos on Niconico and I assume they're using real hardware but maybe it's just not picking up on their mics. I want to be 100% certain but it will absolutely not work on a CD-R. So fuck it I guess I'll never know.
Some day I may buy a PS1 ODE and scream my head off for my neighbors as I clumsily solder the stupid thing in. $100 or so, looks like. I have to wonder if they have their own bugs, though. Probably better than a PS2, though.
>>528521797Made a note of it on the spreadsheet anyway and it's over 1700 entries now.

>>528525665it's not even worth it, i'm just looking to see how much i need since i need to make a desktop anyway. i pretty much only use thinkpads and i think my best gpu is an integrated hd 5000

>>528525508I wouldn't get the Wii unless I was going to play on a CRT, and there SCART is more than enough.
My NUC-Israel has an Iris 640 and handles Dolphin no problem. That's about 2.2x the power of the average HD 5000. I tested Brawl just now and it ran @ 60fps with 3x uprendering and hybrid ubershaders. HD 5000 should run at native res easily. Man. This stupid thing was $50.
>>528527494my laptop I had back in 2012, with an integrated graphics that could barely run HL2 at max settings, would run basically any game I tried on dophin at native res

>>528531907That's a pretty standard no-fuss setup for PC emulation, straight VGA or passive DVI-VGA dongle to VGA connection. For your Wii, you'll want to get a convertor or more ideally a transcoder from component to RGB. Plenty out there. >The Dumping Union's CEO, who goes by Smitdogg online, says only that the dump came from an anonymous donor. But a MAMEWorld forum-goer with the handle "atariscott" had an explosive accusation on that score (emphasis added): There were only three machines ever built. All are in high-end collections. One collector had a tech come and work on some of his games. The unscrupulous tech copied the ROMS without permission. The game was not broken and not one he was supposed to "fix." The owner is reviewing a couple of months of security video to see if he can catch him in the act. This is the first time that someone has actually had the balls to steal ROMS from a collector.
>>528534737Why can't more dumpers pose themselves as "fixers"? It's not like boomer collectors are technically inclined enough to know what's actually being "fixed", and they largely seem to be allergic to emulation.
