That's how these types of games work, she won't be usable until you progress the main story and unlock the new area. The most you can do is take her to 40 until then. You can skip to 2.0 content but you can't go to Septimont specifically until you've done all the story content from 2.0 onward. Weekly boss materials (Bell-borne Geochelone which is the turtle and any story bosses) > Boss materials > Weapon materials > Echoes = EXP = Shell Credits.
You decide what you need in the moment. If you want to upgrade someone you fight the bosses since that's required to ascend them and go for weapon materials because that's how you upgrade their skills for damage.

Echoes do not matter at all until you are able to obtain the highest tier ones which happens at Data Bank 15. Until that point just equip the random garbage you get, get the set effects, and ignore their existence. Do not waste materials on upgrading them as there is nothing prior to level 80 and 90 that even requires you to do so. Level 70ish is when you start seeing a need to maybe upgrade stuff but by that point you should have it at level 15 so the high tier stuff drops.

They are % based chances, you are not guaranteed them with every kill. The drop rate increases at Data Bank level 5 to 15% and level 10 to 20% which is the max chance. The thing is that any enemy that can drop a 3 seems to have a much higher chance to drop their Echoes on top of the base drop rate simply because there are less of them around the map. These are usually the tankier enemies.

Once you hit Data Bank 20 you have a 100% chance for bosses to drop their Echoes for the first 15 kills of the week.

Spend stamina on bosses to ascend characters.
You'll want some of the materials to upgrade skills and weapons but the game is rather generous early on (events help as well) and give you some so you might not need to farm much for those right now.
Using leftover stamina for credits is fine, you'll always need them, but it isn't a priority.
Some of the materials needed are drops and pickups, so just kill stuff and pick everything up as you travel.
If you're in the menu and select the materials it should show you options on where to get them, at which point if you select one of the options it should open your map to where to go (or the synthesis menu). For "instances" there are two; one in the chapter one story zone (the land where you start) and one in the chapter two story zone.

As another anon said, focusing on Rover is a good idea; Spectro (the first "element" you have) is decent, Havoc is a solid damage dealer and Aero is much later (and a situational support/healer).

Getting the bank level for echoes up is good but you'll likely get "stuck" before you can guarantee gold echoes so don't worry too much about it. Just try to equip some sets until you really start feeling pressure from the time challenges and other intro-to-endgame stuff, at which point you'll likely understand it a lot more.

No. You will get a ridiculous amount of them just from playing the game and from getting the tertiary items needed to upgrade people like rings or the Fractsidus masks. If you really need to get Echoes outside of that they also have dedicated areas equivalent to artifact domains where they give you 8/16 per run.
When a new update comes out that introduces a new set like this one, 2.1, or 2.0 all you do is go around, kill the new enemies, get one of their drops each so they get registered into your Pokedex, and then merge Echoes you don't need to get the majority of what you need. As long as you registered them into the Pokedex it lets you get them from merging garbage Echoes.

WuWa's way of doing its main quests has not changed a single bit since 1.0 The main quest is still just looking at characters talk while ocasionally doing things that have no relation to the game's core and fun mechanics. Hell, 1.0 was a bit better at this since most gameplay sequences of the story had you either fighting stuff or using WuWa's core puzzle and exploration features to solve things. Every story since the mountain island has been literally exclusively watching cutscenes and doing random puzzle shit that's so simple it barely counts as interaction, and keeping you entirely locked away from doing anything actually fun in WuWa during it.
The story still makes zero sense both thematically and character wise. The only things 2.0 did was swap the theme of the game from post apocalyptic+asian fantasy to western european renaissance fantasy. The story is the exact same, in the same annoying ways. The only thing that broke the mold is Carth's story due to how it actually manages to get you to bond with her through the tower's level design but that's one thing with the most recent update 2.0 is back to boring shit. Going through main quest drops in gacha games is generally something pretty exhausting and slow but in WuWa its downright sleep inducing most of the time, and it has gotten more sleep inducing since 1.0

1.0 immediately drops at least a dozen world terms your way that aren't explained unless you by chance screenshot the various loading screens, has characters shuffle you around saying nothing substantial, and has Jinhsi doing riddles with you to waste your time that are meant to flesh out the world but even if you read the pages in Mortefi's lab it's still filled with jargon that barely explains anything besides that you did stuff hundreds if not thousands of years ago to save people.

Then it finally starts the story with Scar and introducing the Black Shores only to immediately go into the Threnodian which has been mentioned maybe two times across the entire story at this point as a potential future threat. The Fractsidus are also barely given any development as why they are villains until the Threnodian. The entire Threnodian fight involves three characters who were not introduced at all up until that point in Youhu, Taoqi, and Lingyang and then Jiyan who just got introduced right at the start of that part and was spoken about like twice.

All of the companion quests for Jinzhou are basically just "A life in the day of this character" and doesn't really expand the world at all outside of Lingyang, and even he's a very minor thing in the world.

2.0 has Brant explain how the Order of the Deep worships and functions, how Rinascita functions, lets us see an example of the excommunication of citizens, and then immediately has us introduced to Zani and Carlotta so that we can start working towards uncovering the truth about Rinascita via the festival. This leads to us being introduced to Cartethyia, and companion quests further expand upon the Order of the Deep's corruption.

2.1 to 2.3 continue to expand on the Fractsidus' goals, Rinascita's founding, the Sentinel, the Threnodian, Fleurdelys' life, the Montellis, the Fisalias, and the Order of the Deep in ways that matter.

Yeah, because the exposition is actually explained to the character and shown to the character what it means after being explained. Chixia and Yangyang literally start the game talking like this with no explanation for what any of it means. The only thing explained to you is that Resonators have Terminals, that Jue is the Sentinel of Jinzhou, and that all nations have a Sentinel. I don't even know if Chixia explained what a Resonator was because my screenshots don't have any mention of it. Tacet Fields are shown to you that they randomly form but they barely explain what they do outside of spawn Crownless. You have to read the loading screens to get any explanation of what the Etheric Sea, Tacet Fields, Tacet Discords, or the Waveworn Phenomena even are. Mortefi's papers only explain a sickness that happened during Jinzhou's formation that you specifically fixed and I think you stopped the initial Threnodian incursion but it's been a bit so I might be remembering that wrong.

WuWa's intro is hilariously easy to get from the first go. Playing through this story makes me baffled as to why they didn't just release Carth with her story update and Lupa with this one. Not to an acceptable degree otherwise this wouldn't be the number 1 complaint about 1.0's story and its pacing. It pussyfoots around many of the concepts, ties the explanation of major concepts to the loading screens, and just does a basic overview of each concept that doesn't really help going forward when they start using these concepts more often.

Early impressions on actual usual player experience with Carth. Haven't completely maxed her right now but she's getting there.

The biggest problem with her is mostly external out of her actual kit. You can stack enough HP substats to make up for Cia missing in all content, but the problem is that her usual team of A.Rover and Verina next to her does really bad damage when it's not just Fleur on the field. With Zani's non whale options, S.Rover still deals a good amount of damage and is easy to rotate with, with havoc teams H.Rover is one of the best units in the game so they work easily, and H Rover is even good with Changli and Jinshi. But with Carth any time you're not Fleur, you cannot literally deal damage, and the damage you do deal with Fleur seems to be slightly lower than Zani's rotation most of the time, and not as easy to use due to her animations being confusing as fuck compared to Zani's.

Carth feels like what shitposters think Zani is like, a character that doesn't function properly in non whale teams, except Zani actually feelss great with Rover and Verina.

Her weapon is a priority then the biggest upgrade is S2 and S3. Remember that those calcs are made with the standard 5* sword and her 5* sword is a massive boost as there is no cope sword with similar stats. Weapon is guaranteed. I'd get her S0R1 and get other characters you like.

The issue is that you need to know what these basic concepts are in depth because they're the foundation of the world itself and the main story and if you don't know that TDs mimic everything, not just people, it makes how they appear confusing at best. The actual threat to people is that TDs want their frequencies but I don't recall this being stated anywhere but the loading screen and I think that one side quest tied to the radar dishes?
Tacet Fields can appear anywhere which is why the shields are around, but I believe Chixia or Jinhsi mention this in an offhand comment somewhere around chapter 3 or 5 to explain why they don't have them popping up in their city.
Retroact Rain only gets covered in a specific side quest until you reach chapter 5 if I remember right but I believe they briefly explained it there because that's how they know the Threnodian has awakened.
The Lament is mentioned regularly as a thing that happened but I don't recall them even explaining it until I think the Scar discussion with Jinhsi in chapter 4 outside of the loading screen.

Overall, the issue here is that they regularly name drop stuff and then go on as if you know in-depth about what that is when you've just barely absorbed what they've even talking about, and they've introduced you to ten different concepts about the world in less than five minutes.
Imagine if you started off an Elder Scrolls game and someone ran up to you and went "The Daedra have used their Oblivion Gates to attack us. We must get the Elder Scrolls to hiding. The infighting between the Redguards and the Argonians has given us enough time to escape to the Imperial City. Praise Sithis." and then five seconds later they go "Daedra are dudes that come out of these portals, Reguards live in this part of the country, Argonians live here, the Elder Scrolls are powerful, and Sitihis is my homie".
