2) Confused Confusion
Finally separated Confusion effect for:

It is worth noting that often the advice to stop jumping around and actually finish something often comes from people who already benefited from jumping around for years. Haven't posted in a bit, don't have much to show in terms of progress. Last few weeks have been spent building a constructor/initializer for shaders on loading new scenes. Plus had to completely remake the character controller since I had problems with stuttering and it getting stuck when walking over crevices.
It doesn't get stuck or stutter anymore, but it feels kinda floaty so idk how I feel about that. That said, I'm not touching the character controller again unless I notice something game-breaking.
Did this animation for the umbrella when you hold down the jump button to start gliding. Also made a few animations for the hands, but they aren't shown on the webm.
I think some of them turned out pretty good, but you'll have to wait to see them
Pay no mind to how empty the level is, this is one of my playground scenes where I test new systems and stuff

In Unity, there's something called adaptive probe volumes which work really well for this, and you can pre-bake different sets and blend between them fairly easily.
Rather than render it all in one go, put the characters on a separate layer and then mask them onto a render texture or camera stack. Then, have that output be at a lower resolution scaled up to give a sprite/pixelated look.
They'll still receive the baked lighting information, but they will not cast shadows onto the static objects due to being rendered separately then combined in the composite/final output.
You could also use imposters, which are just quads that display a 3D object at various angles/perspectives.

Starcraft 2 is a vast improvement over brood war because it solved a bunch of problems bw had with control. for example units have shit pathing so you follow them and micromanage their movement. sc2 fixing pathing entirely is a solution to a problem but also a removal of something brood war players enjoy doing.
Is the key to making a perfect rts balancing how much stupid micro a player must do, or can do? most rts following sc2 have made the formula simpler or easier in some way, like pacing or the control you have over what materials you mine.

i just realized that what you believe in has absolute and final control over you.
i do not believe that i will make it, therefore it takes a lot of motivation to do it anyways, but ultimately it takes so much energy to go against your beliefs, that you will always stop at some point.
most people who make something learned their beliefs from their parents. e.g. if your parent is a rich actor, you'll form beliefs around that and have an easy time becoming a rich actor, too. if your dad is a rich actor and he sucks, you'll believe that becoming a rich actor will turn you into an asshole. so you'll avoid becoming a rich actor.
beliefs are everything. and it seems impossible to change them. you cannot make it in gamedev before you start truly believing in it, because doing something against your beliefs is constant stress.
like e.g. compare approaching a woman on the street. if you truly believe (i dont mean thinking, i mean really believing, just like you believe touching a hot plate will burn your hand), if you believe, then you'll have the easiest time ever. it'll just flow, it'll be easy as fuck. but if you believe you'll get rejected and seen as a sex offender, you'll have such a hard time convincing yourself to do it. there's like a 99.99999% you wont do it and therefore you'll also never have a girlfriend. you didn't believe in it and it actually became reality.
if you'd truly believe your game will make it, you'd have the easiest time ever to make it, because there's no resistance. and i mean truly believing, not just "telling yourself that you gonna make it". i mean a deep belief. a belief so strong that you basically couldn't even keep yourself from doing it, even if you wanted to.
