I wasn't around for that time so I can't confirm or deny, but KS really took the site and the internet by storm for a while when it came out. Of course that was in 2012-2013 internet, which is like a blip in the radar in 2025.

Yeah she's sort of a strong presence for quite a bit of the first arc, it's almost rigged in her favour with her just whisking you away if you did enough stuff that was polite/affectionate. But it's not like "treat everyone other than your main girl like dogshit" works here, since Emi/Rin and Lily/Hanako are pairs.

I think she was pretty much spot-on with regards to basically everything in her route. Not so much these days but people used to complain how Lilly was tardy with her papers for the festival and I think that was just people being picky. It was a class with only blind and legally people, some leniency should be expected for them, plus something I used to always bring up back then was that Shizune (who I don't dislike by the way) was purposefully being hard on Lilly due to their relationship, she'd still have been a hard-ass on any other student but with Lilly she was extra bitchy.

The other thing I see people complain about these days is her abandoning Hisao and I wonder how many people who say that have ever been in a similar situation to hers. She's got half her family in another country, in fact I think it's more than half since only Akira, Shizune and Hideaki are in Japan as far as we know, and a family member of hers was dying and she was asked to be there. It wasn't permanent, it wasn't she was there with you one day and gone the next without warning, and it wasn't selfish. I never got why people hate her for this, if I was in another country and had a girlfriend there and I had to do the same thing she did I'd do it no questions asked, and I think most of us would as well, and if our girlfriend got... upset and angry about it? Maybe they aren't the right person for us.

This was my issue. I wasn't expecting Act 1 to end when it did, since it's only the first week at Yamaku. So I was intentionally being non-committal to try and get a mix of scenes with the different schools, so that I could pick one later.

Hell, just telling Hisao herself might have the same effect even if she waited.

Possibly, I don't remember it being mentioned one way or the other, but the deadline being so close to the festival inconvenienced Shizune so she had a right to be annoyed.

she gives people too much space (like her classmates). then, when they fall short of her expectations, she just shrugs and treats it as how the world is, and then tries to clean up the mess. she just presents her worldview as a bubble of good feelings like that, distancing herself from the moments where it fails to align with reality.
contrast this with emi, who foresees hisao's health problems and pushes him to eat better and exercise, or shizune, who would realize a problem was coming for someone and would intervene so as to guide them to do better than they would have without her subtle influence. even Rin (if unintentionally) brings up Hisao's problems in such a way that he is forced to look inside himself and realize he needs to take responsibility

Hanako isn't the worst, she's totally my second favorite, but I think she's the least crippled. Like; Lilly is blind, she can't enjoy art, video games, drive, etc. Shizune is deaf, she'll never fully appreciate music, she'll never drive, she'll never enjoy a non-subtitled movie. Emi has no fucking legs, and while her prosthetics are top of the line any fluctuation in her weight, if she grows any taller, or if her hip gets sore (common for people with prosthetic legs) they'll become useless. Rin has no arms, she can't wipe her ass let alone anything else that requires the dexterity of hands. She can do things fine with her feet, but note how she has short, messy hair. That's because she physically cannot fix it herself, so she has to chop it like that for convenience. Hanako, she's just disfigured. Like, PTSD too, but aside from her skin being thicker (in a literal sense) her quality of life can be almost entirely normal with some therapy. She's 100% the safe choice if you for some reason want to date a non-crippled girl in the crippled-girl game.

I think that too come to think of it. She's socially isolated and very insecure. Alright, I cracked the code. Basically, there are 2 Lillies:

1) South African Lilly: comes from the pre-alpha version of the VN, won't ghost you, full stop. Only Akira intends to go back to South Africa. If Lilly chose to follow Akira, she would certainly give you a proper notice and probably ask you to join her

Man I finally tried the beta, only did the Hanako route, it's utterly insane how the final one, while still pretty good, feels extremely cheap and unfinished compared to the old one. While I do think there were some issues with her route, Lilly by far has the worse pacing. With alot happening all at once, then long bouts of not much happening to then have the central conflict thrown in halfway through the last chapter.
