The old ranking system is one thing that is genuinely atrocious about vanilla though, if people were farming honor at the rate they do in anniversary cap would be at about 3-4 million. I agree if we talk about mounts. Pets are a different situation, pet collection was always a part of the game because there were way more varieties of non-combatant pets than there were of mounts. Outside of the Rivendare's Deathcharger, AQ mount, and the ZG mounts, you could get every mount in the game for your faction in probably a few months. Even faster if you're horde. There's just not enough of them in the game back then.

But I feel like we're arguing different things, "mount collecting" vs "mount collecting as the sole endgame content."
