Personally, I disagree, I think this is just the story reaching its endgame, so it can no longer play around the bush, and we're getting into the meats and potatoes, Ep1/2 being the setup to the finale/conflict, and its framing is dependant on your choices.
omitting sexual aspect and romance from a gothic romance would be a betrayal of the story, and we're finally getting into more of an open dive into the characters to see what really makes them tick and where things have gone awry, since the story was always about deep diving into their psyche.

It's sutle but I can't be the only one that notices chapter 1's art always being more rough right? It has it's charm, even if chapter 2 and 3 are polished. Particularly Andrew almost always is a bit off-model in cutscenes, but that's precisely why I like it. It has all the charm of an indie dev prior to breaking out, it honestly is nostalgic. And no, it isn't an effect her older games had to me, as they usually had fewer cutscenes than chapter 1 to have worked on to create that less refined finish. Also having to spend more time on gameplay, cut further into said refining time. This does mean that I think chapter 1 is Nemlei's least well-drawn game overall, but that's exactly why I find it appealing.

Regardless, Better Half and Candy Scabs always stood out to me for being monochromatic (plus being next to each other chronologically). The Thius not having a checkered history of deeds already sets them up as more likable off the bat, but the real decisive component is direction. Coffin is all about the siblings getting into shitshows usually of their own creation, which means that their killcount and wave of crimes only enlargen over time. This in of itself is not a problem, but it handicaps for me any attempt at a concrete narrative when I hold no sympathy for these unlikable trashbags and therefore no real stakes to any scene. I don't feel anything from SnS because of this, like I genuinely find them too insufferable to care if they do or don't destroy themselves, and this also isn't a bad thing. The game was always a black comedy first and foremost, so in truth this actually played to the game's advantage of letting them get into more and more deranged situations- it did become a problem when trying to balance out the attempt at a narrative from this foundation. It just distracts, and can't find a good pivot anywhere, like trying to get a laugh inbetween all the attempts at upsetting scenes just felt both tonedeaf and so uneven, it just lost me in a way the first 2 chapters didn't. In contrast, Thiu is a loser, but he isn't a scoundrel who ruins people's lives. I could easily get myself caring for him way more, but more importantly this means the humour and tone doesn't suffer nearly as much whiplash, particularly when all the issues with his clones is on some level more fantastical than the trauma Andrew and Ashley that is very realistic. I just found dirtbag Thiu a lot less hateable because of this, and it also means there isn't as many gaps where real-life crap bloats the game. While this may seem like a new issue from chapter 3, the flashbacks in chapter 2 already were my least favorite parts because of this.
