Having a stable DPS for bossing that doesn't rely on parts or core damage is more useful in general considering that ShiftUp likes to shift gimmicks around a lot. Most often we don't even use Leona anymore for the SG comp. Leona was mainly there to increase the pellet count which only MPriv benefits from since her additional damage from her S1 and her ATK buff on her S2 require 30 pellets to land, which normally requires 3 shots, but with Leona upping the pellet count from 10 to 15 it only requires 2 shots.
The other buffs Leona provides are nice, but not really better than other supports.
Most of the time the SG comp is now run with Blanc + Noir and the two required units for this comp are Tove and BSoda, Tove for obvious reasons and BSoda since she acts as the CDR substitute. The last unit in the comp depends on the element you need for the boss you're fighting, but generally Drake with her treasure is the strongest pick as the second B3 bursting. There's plenty more SG comp variations, but the only constant is Tove + BSoda (unless we're doing the Arcana + Isabel variation with actual CDR).
If you only just started out playing though I don't think you gotta bother investing into the SG comp as it is only used in SR, requires a lot of resources and you really can't use the comp elsewhere.
