step 2. assuming step 1 was in emunand, boot sysnand on a clean sd card with just atmosphere, and the save on sd card and jksv.nro

all of this assumes your switch 1 isn't banned and you have a clean sysnand

if it is banned, you can use a friends console.

Yes, however I personally wouldn't do that because who knows what all data is transferred (and if it could be used to ban at some point), as paranoid as it sounds.
What I suggest is start out with what the previous reply said to copy all your saves to sysnand first, then merely copying the saves over after setting up the S2 normally.
Then the following instead of their step 4:
1. Set up S2 without system transfer
2. Sign in on S2 with your Nintendo account(s)
3. In system settings -> data management, transfer your save data from the S1 to S2 (you can even send the save data back whenever you want).

no it's not, updating with the stock way replaces all the hacker stuff you did so you have to basically do everything from scratch again (as in, you need to restore the "path" for hekate and atmosphere to work properly), for starters you need to fuck with the jig again and inject the payload and all that shit, and then make sure everything has been updated properly and there's no old sysmodules fucking up the process, hence doing the clean install method

I'm on an OLED with a hwfly or whatever I installed, I forget. But it boots to either hekate or insert sd card automatically now.

I booted the stock sysnand via reboot -> ofw, that was on 18 or 19, updated to 20.1.1 and then it never booted again. I didn't do anything to said stock sysnand. The only thing I've ever done to it is copy it to make the emunand.

So as far as nintendo should be concerned, it's a normal switch, updating. So I updated normally, now it's a black screen on stock sysnand.

Hekate and atmosphere work fine, I can boot semi-stock and my emunand fine, I just can't boot the switch without an SD card that says to bypass whatever it bypasses for semi-stock.

I want to play DS2, I have this old PS5 still sealed that's probably on 4.51 at the latest, I think. I'll wait it out and just rent a PS5 or something, I guess.

Are people backporting games to previous firmwares at all? Being limited to 2022 games is not great, especially when most games are on PC.

Yes, I choose the stock option.

It's different from rebooting to ofw, as that is telling the switch to boot as if it has no modchip, which is what I usually do to get into stock.

And yes, it can boot. It will just say insert sd card, but you can press volume up/down to bypass and boot ofw like how hekate does it with reboot to ofw. Which is why I still think the update bricked it. I didn't do it without an sd card though, I rebooted through hekate, as I've done that multiple times before to update.

It's not something you "activate" and leave it on. You can simply set it when you want to use it and remove it when you don't.
You just change your internet settings to the dns on the switchbru page. By setting up wifi, the switch will try to connect to it and will fail, so it assumes you need to log in or pay. Usually in a public wifi this opens a small, static browser page from the public access point, but in this case the switchbru dns redirects this to its own landing page. From here it let's you open urls and whatnot.

You can use it and it has no implications of hacking so you won't be banned, if you worry about that. But keep in mind you are still connecting to the internet, so at any given moment the switch will connect to ninty's servers for an update, if released.

Reasons I've had are:
Some games (namely xenoblade) had some issues on emulator (graphical, and sometimes hanging on load screens). But honestly the tradeoff of having a much better resolution/framerate is worth it in my opinion.
Second reason would I have is for pokemon. Even without owning the game you can still put the save data on your SysNAND to use with Pokemon home. But that's only assuming you're interested in playing Pokemon with regards to official methods/event.
All of this becomes moot if you don't have a Switch already. If you don't have a Switch just emulate and don't bother. If you already have a switch might as well hack it.

Playnite has a plugin called SuccessStory that you can link your accounts to so they all show up nice and consistent next to each other
I've got cross save set up across my PC, phone, Switch, and Vita, so any achievements earned on any of those will show up.
Exophase works well too for just tracking, again by linking RetroAchievements and whatever other services you care to track. I use it to check progress on my phone

You can! I only play Nikke but even that struggles quite a bit, I tried Genshit a couple years ago when they promised a native Switch port and it ran much worse at about 8-10fps.
Most standalone emulators and Retroarch have better performance when on Android though, so playing something like Spyro through Duckstation at native switch res + widescreen feels great. There's other emulators like JoiPlay that don't have Horizon ports, PSP/N64 which run better on Android, and OpenMW actually works very decently
Plus you can install apps like Syncthing to automatically sync saves/screenshots/configs/whatever to other devices. You can even access the native Switch storage from Lineage, so you can read and write whatever is on your emuMMC

Found what I was looking for with the first resource. What I meant by backgrounds was the image that displays when you launch the game. Picrel is an example of one. It's a PS2 game bundled in with an emulator, so without specifying a background, it's just display the PS2 background before starting the game.

I looked further into it, and I guess I was mistake; I don't need a cover nor background, it apparently auto-populates--at least according to pkgviewer. It doesn't have the exact cover, but it does already have one. I guess it's just necessary to do so with PS2 games converted to fpkgs. There's probably some way to choose my own cover art.

The Switch is underclocked to help save battery in handheld mode and not degrade the battery out as fast while it's charging while using in the dock. Calling it "overclocking" is just to keep it simple. Those settings are basically all safe, since they're the range that the chip was designed to run at. I did some research but have conflicting results. For OG Xbox I have a question.

I did well over 100 HDD swaps for OG xbox from 2006-2019. 10 or so modchips. About 50 cap kits too. The thing is I have not touched modding or fixing one since 2019. A local store just gave me 20 to fix so I could sell for charity. I want to swap the hard drives and do a basic hack before I sell.

I think my previous methods are similar to CHIMP and Rocky5 to swap drives and do a softmod.

What is the best current method to do a basic hack that would allow me to just swap to the 80pin cable, update to a larger drive, and let the buyers play whatever games on the console after they buy it from me.

Endgame exploit and then do a TSOP to some random bios that lets any hard drive boot (even ones that are not locked or properly keyed)???

I just got one of the $30 AliExpress Sega Saturn Fenrir Duo ODE clones. MSRP for real one is $90 and the dev only does limited runs that sell out in 6 hours. Seems to work exactly like the real one, has the current firmware, and is properly detected by PSK carts.

I was going to post about it in the /vr/ /hbg/ but it 404'd before it came in the mail, lol. At $30, it's cheaper than Saroo, and you can run PSK off of it directly if you don't have a cart/don't need to play RAM cart games.

You can use a normal SD card only for transferring album media. If it's FAT32, the switch reads it just fine. If it's exFAT, the switch will prompt you for an update before it can read it. This is not a firmware update, it's only exFAT drivers/licenses/whatnot. However, if your system is not on the latest FW, it will also do a FW update

You should get an A2 microSD because emuMMC in particular is about random read speed (technically IOPS) which is like 4x faster with A2 cards vs. A1 cards. Switch can't read faster than 100 MB/s so there's no real reason to overpay for faster microSDs. Also, OLED's MMC (therefore its emuMMC) is 2x the size of other revisions, so consider that too.
