What a final boss.
I had to learn not just the tells for his moveset but even how and when each of his arms moved. and the timings of how long i had windows of attack on the limbs. I used all my consumables, not just max pots but the demon drugs, the hood, micromanage the palico heal. Sharpening mid-fight. About the only thing I didn't do is clutch claw, which makes me laugh about how much my gameplay has changed.
The ending cinematic was great. The music is amazing. What a great game, no wonder it's still popular so many years later.
Can't wait to play the sequel.

i can craft one (1) weapon with the parts that boss dropped. it's a good one: the blast one. but i saw in this fight how useful it is to have that extra length on the greatsword. I kinda want to try the other ones too. But it might be best of all to simply unlock the entire weapon tree. People are saying RAW is the best but all the greatswords have elements or stun or something like that, there's nothing that just straight up maxes raw damage, not yet at least.

I see that some guys on here think that avoiding learning the moveset is retarded. But to me, learning them feels braindead and boring. You lose all sense of romance - what was once an illusion of a fluid reactive improvisation is now reduced to a simple look up table. it's definitely more optimal to learn the movesets, but i'm not trying to speedrun the game i'm trying to have fun. It's one thing to realize that he's about to fire his laser, it's another thing entirely to know that his right foreleg stays put for exactly 5 seconds when he does it. Do you get what I'm saying? It's about self-awareness, it's ultimately a game for having fun.
Well, at least that's how I think about it. I had fun playing monster hunter world. I'm glad it was the first monhun game I played; it was a great experience.
My main regrets are that I didn't craft all the cool weapons I wanted, or really get good at anything other than the greatsword.
Maybe I should pick a different weapon for the expansion. Any suggestions?

Why did Capcom move from MT Framework to RE Engine again?
They spent close to 20 years learning how to efficiently use MT Framework and making some of the most well-optimized games out there, and then they dump all of that accumulated knowledge for a new engine that they have to re-learn from scartch.
And for what?
For an engine that makes games run like dogshit (even isometric games like Kunitsu Gami that shouldn't be graphically demanding run like ass on consoles)? An engine that makes characters all look like they have skin made out of rubber and have some of the most retrograde mouth animations in modern games?
Maybe one day we'll get perfect optimization for RE Engine games. By then, Capcom will have moved to yet another engine, and we'll be again stuck with dogshit optimization games.

About planning the fights. i like the idea of luring the monster into turf wars, of crafting a weapon that it's weak to, of preparing gear to counter it, of learning what kinds of attacks it has (e.g. dazzling glare), of learning their tells and how to avoid them. but the actual act of learning movesets to the extent i did in the last fight, where I knew I could get exactly 2 combos 2nd one with 2 charges whenever he did a lunge... i think this is pretty soulless. You are, essentially, exploiting how the game AI is just looping the same 6 or so moves. What's even the point of playing a game when you've reduced it to something like that? All of the wonderlust is gone at that point, you're not hunting elder dragons in a crystal ravine you're just putting a square peg in a square hole.
Now, I'm not above learning what he's got in his arsenal, does he fire a lazer, can you dash left when he fires explosives, will he slash at you if you hit him from that side. It's the act of this, unnatural reducing into tight moves with timings that I think is soulless and braindead.
I hope that explains why I don't like doing it. I did learn a lot about positioning, and responsiveness. In the end, my greatsword play was much better than it was at the start. I was able to adapt to timing windows, tackle block consistently, I even got some pretty nice hits by reactively releasing the charge early. So I'm pretty happy with the weapon.
But I'm also curious if you have a recommendation for a different weapon I might like more.

As an aside, this "lottery" way of playing is likely why how you're playing now feels more fun, as im sure when shit actually works out it feels great.

But ultimately i think where you're at now is fine. As a beginner with anything you only have enough bandwidth to think and handle a limited amount of things but as you get better and your brain more efficient that space opens up for more things to think about and do, which is why i'm saying all this so hopefully you keep it in mind as you go forward in monhun.

We are now months out from release and the game still suffers from terrible performance issues. Capcom seemingly has no interest in improving performance. The game in general is also very easy and quite boring. Be ready for 30 minutes of cutscene and dialog inbetween 6 minute long hunts.

I was just noted by a friend of mine because we both basically wait for Wilds to be on sale. Since there is summer sale soon, we thought to get the game because we already had a long (and really good) time in World. We also played Rise but...let be honest, World is just a better opinion from that 2 at least.
But looking at the 22% right now...what happend? I know it had problems as it came out, did it get worse? Is it getting bombed? I read some reviews but they basically say its "to easy" and "doesnt run well" (aka said perfomence problems).

The fact that performance for most pc players is downright shit, the game launched with literally zero challenge whatsoever, the TUโs are rolling out slower than worlds, so artians not really being an engaging endgame system, among other things, i NEED to know what people are going to say or how people can tell me that this is okay or โnaturalโ. I've been playing some other recent releases and it's kind of nuts how I can get 60+ or even 90+ FPS with textures that look better than the high texture pack on max and without needing upscaling, while in Wilds my same rig is struggling to keep 40 unless I put on DLSS and framegen, and it doesn't look nearly as good. The only team at capcom that actually cares about delivering good performance is the one doing the RE remakes.

I'm a big MH fan. The kind of guy who can return to old titles because he doesn't give much of a shit about graphics. And while I was perfectly aware that Wilds had a very rough launch (in term of performance, that is), I thought that it was just that: performance. My PC is indeed good enough (not a war machine tho) to run basically any other game (that I'm aware of) on the highest settings. So I bought the game 3 days ago, thinking that I could run it. And while it was the case... the result was still catastrophic.
Had a good time the first month or so and then there was nothing to do, came back for the sakura event finished it dropped the game again.... Street Fighter Event was not that interesting for me so i did not bother (for the first collab i think a weak start)...Apex Predators too easy...hmm will come back for the Summer Event but until then i'll be playing MH3U again its actually challenging :D

It is just not worth it. The story was lackluster, the optimization was bad (not that I care desu but seeing the washed out textures from time to time just ripped me out right of the immersion), and the worst: there is no content at all. I unfortunately rushed the story because I missed the quest giver for side quests (???). Every new monster was a first-try-kill kind of situation. Nothing was at stake, no adrenaline nor excitement. I really loved Monster Hunter World and even bought it for multiple platforms, but Wilds is just not up to that level, especially not for full price. I learned my lesson - I will never buy any AAA title on release for full price.

This morning 13,000 players in World with a 25,763 24hr peak.
6,600 players in wilds with a 17,066 24hr peak.
For reference Rise currently has 4,400 players online right now, and Rise has abysmally worse general performance on Steam than World. Wilds only has 50% more players than Rise, whiile World sometimes has 100% more players than Wilds.

A technical mess, regardless of whether you're on a high-end system. Even fake frames won't save you from the PS1 era pop-in and intense frame drops from simply panning the camera too quickly. I can only attribute it to wilful disregard that a publisher/developer with the means of Capcpom would release a game in such a sorry state.

As much as I love Monster Hunter, I cannot defend this game in any way shape or form. It runs terribly on PC, the game is ugly as hell compared to what MHWorld had to offer, the fights are underwhelming for what MH usually has (but I do hope that can be improved with a dlc) and there's so many unnecessary details that just made the gameplay experience awfully annoying. Instead of telling the players to upgrade their PCs, maybe actually listen to the fanbase and fix the game instead of only focusing on PS5. For the new Monster Hunter players out there, I can assure you that you can get a much better (and cheaper) MH experience with MHWorld, the game is gorgeous (unlike whatever garbage they decided to do with this one) and the fights are cool as hell

My PC can't handle Wilds and i'm craving a Monster Hunter game. I already have 400 hours in Rise and World, so i'm craving a different game. Do any of the older games have like private servers or some sort of dedicated player base? I've only played World and Rise.
Genuine question: Is this kind of doomsaying and lamentation of player counts normal for /mhg/? All the times I've been in these generals - World release, KT update, Iceborne release, Safi update, Fatalis update, Rise release, Sunbreak release, and now Wilds release - I didn't notice it until Wilds.
I play monhun in bursts and then leave until big updates. Are there really people that play it non-stop WHILE complaining that not enough thousands of others are playing it too?

I just have no interest in the game anymore. Maybe I'll check out TU2, but I don't think it will keep my interest for long. A lot of Wilds' combat flaws are on a fundamental level (focus mode, perfect guard, wounds, how safe healing is). The game won't get hard until everything starts one-shotting you, but I don't know if that form of difficulty will be fun.

focus mode is basically a third person shooter mode. You know how said games play? Itโs usually hordes of small enemies with very small weak points (the head, or joints in dead space, etc) often times having some limited factor of ammo or some shit. Itโs a control scheme not suited for large enemies. Itโs too much control and the game can never ever keep up with focus mode. They would need to shrink the monsters to 1/5th their size and double or triple their speed. At this point itโs not monster hunter

I wish there was some way to dash forward with greatsword because if that happens, all i can do is sheathe and run in. It feels like you get punished for knocking it out.
Anyway beat him first try. Once you recognize his charge attack, you time a tackle parry, then he usually follows up with another attack, you can tackle parry that and then get a big combo off. It's pretty hard to see anything, so you just have to feel out the timing. I hope that "can't see shit" doesn't become a trend. And without his charges it's not too bad. I felt like my damage was low but that makes sense because I jumped into this after beating the base game. I went in expecting to utterly get filtered but it's not bad.

the maps should be a lot bigger. maybe about four times larger. they definitely get stale with the size they are currently. alternatively, you could procgen the maps but keep the size the same.
