Dark Amy.
Much like how despite originally being "evil", Shadow was hellbent on destroying the world out of love and revenge, not heartlessness or sadism. Surge isn't evil at her core, she's just a victim of unfortunate circumstance, that ends up blaming the inactions of others for failing to prevent her from losing her life. She wants to kill villains for wronging her, but she also despises heroes for their perceived "laziness", finding the fact that people like Sonic are content to wander around on adventures even though there could be people just like her that need their help.
Surge has the makings of an obsessive villain-killer that pesters the heroes for being lazy, even after she learns that Sonic doesn't actually pull his punches when it comes to dealing with villains, with her seeing the worst in people to counter how Amy sees the best in people, as well as being driven by hate whereas Amy is driven by love.

An Anti-villain is a character that pretends to be heroic, doing outwardly "good" and kindhearted things, but for their own selfish ends. An Anti-villain is the kind of character that plays the role of a hero, but only for the fame, fortune, and power that comes from it. Sort of like what's happing in IDW at the moment, although I don't really prefer that direction for Surge, and they aren't doing it particularly well either.

I really liked their character models and animation.
With respect to the source material, Shadow is fine. He's NOT "in-character" but the resulting Shadow character in Prime is perfectly entertaining to me.
Prime Sonic should be very annoying to me, but I don't mind him. I think he's cute.
I remember even on this general, there was this odd notion that Prime Shadow was in-character. I think that's more of a projection of what people want Shadow to be rather than what he has ever been. Shadow is, after all, portrayed as the more mature but brash counterpart to this goofy and energetic Sonic.

It's really not, but like you said to each their own and we can agree to disagree. If Sonic risked losing his speed on something, he'd still do it. If he has to risk his freedom to ensure that others can live freely, chances are, he would. Sonic is simply someone that goes out his way to do whatever he wants and he chose to follow his heart by the joy of adventure while taking on whatever is in his way. Helping people out is a bonus for him. I understand why you feel this way and I may not agree with you on certain things but it's to each their own regardless if you don't want to drag this any longer.
