This is the point in the story where all hope would look lost and then Sonic appears. But you are seemingly allergic to that kind of storytelling. Again, no matter which way you spin it, there is no logical reason for Jewel to escalate the way she did. You're supposed to let villains show their hand before countering it in a dramatic way. "She HAD to do it (sacrifice hundreds of civilians) because she didn't know what he would do" is such a poor excuse and equally poor writing.

I wouldn't really say that 100%, but let me put it this way: He cares but he don't entirely show since he acts on impulse. If Sonic lost everything, he'd still be an inspiration because he'd be the catalyst for another person to make their time to shine. He's on the move, and he can't see himself stopping anytime soon. I've always liked to think that he has the power to generate it, but has no control over it himself, so he uses these weapons as conduits. If I had to make a thesis for why the manga is so much better, it really is that IDW tries to build intrigue through explanations of everything, whereas the manga tries to reinforce why the mysteries are so intriguing as mysteries.

So the issue with IDW is that it wants to make its own cast of characters to basically be new major Sonic characters They are meant to fit into the games and they are meant to be these long-term characters yuta is not written that way He's very clearly a one shot and he's a guy who just kind of ends up swept up in whatever Sonic's doing Sonic kind of convinces him to be proactive and that is really cool to see Sonic's influence on things like that The most we get from this and IDW was just like Sonic consoling Belle.

Sonic is also written like this much more mysterious character rather than just our protagonist that were supposed to find super relatable and I think that helps with the very paragon nature that the Japanese often prescribe to Sonic. Sonic is also written much more seriously with all of his goofy aspects being quips essentially, here Sonic does some things the main character finds strange but are quite endearing for how goofy they are (like Sonic randomly cleaning the windows of the train).

The manga is not obsessed with taking away this normal life away from Yuta whereas the IDW wants the Restoration because the characters have to constantly be fighting for something.

Let us also point out that the story largely relies on coincidence to get it going while this might seem like bad writing it is actually fundamental to free spirited characters like the core Sonic cast (i.e. Sonic, Tails, Amy) otherwise you get the issue IDW has where it feels the need to constantly tie stories together and introduce a concept like the Restoration to justify even basic things like Sonic fighting Eggman.

Okay, the manga got some potential going on, and personally I like it. There are people that have their own way on writing Sonic in the official media, and this manga's interpretation of him is growing onto me since he has that charm from the Dark Age era and some of X. He has his charm, and he's as rowdy as ever with noticeable flaws that compliment his character than harm it. Yuta imo, doesn't seem like a Chris 2.0, he's more self-conscious than him, but he's got grit I'd say. The story is straightforward as it gets with some plain jokes, and wacky interactions, but it gets the point across of Sonic's character and how he wants to help Yuta be better and stand up for himself. This is just the first chapter of the series so I'm not going to jump the gun about it, but I prefer Sonic here than IDW's take. Hopefully this manga can keep the ball rolling, I need to see more of Yuta so I can properly judge him as a character in his own merit to see if he's a fresh of breath air or just another Chris Thorndyke.
