I didn't play many but the one that stuck with me was Gecko Gods, recommended it last thread. You play as a Gecko of course, and can traverse any surface without falling, it's puzzle based and not "complete this insane hardcore jump bro" so it ends up feeling less frustrating, while still being satisfying because of the movement

There's no saving in the demo and camera movement on the ceiling is kinda wack but that's literally the only two things I can critique, coming Q4 too.

Okay, so. There's no wind, so you're FAST as fuck, almost motorboat fast.
Second, the ship in Vintage Story is modular, so you can fill it with crates, or seats, or add more ropes to the mast to make two more makeshift seats for players. There are 6 slots in the boat, so either 6 crates or 6 seats or any of them, and they can be easily removed.
You cannot stand on a boat, you have to sit down.

Also dev says he wants to add figureheads later.

Kinda. It's just, like most survival games, a bit tedious if you're alone, because it's not a game where crafting is just "click on things and wait". It's an actual endeavour that might be as time consuming as exploring. That's why I like it, the one player that stays at the base and builds it get as much recognition as the one that goes exploring and hunting.

...yes? That's pretty much it, Minecraft but with a more autistic system. Dev is biased toward blacksmithing, so, so far, this is the most advanced system, but farming is also fairly complex. Only Ostriv can rival it.

Not that I know, and I almost got banned from the Discord when asking that. The community is very elitist and gatekeeping, they do NOT want the game to be famous. this is what game aims for, and the situation expie gets in makes perfect logical sense. humans are generally very cruel, and commiting mass genocide experiments made remarks in our history books more than once.
thing is, though, is that everything is avoidable, and every time expie suffers - you're directly responsible for it. there are no situations when expie gets to suffer just on a whim of the dev - if you stepped on a landmine or got shot, it's purely your fault as a player. gun suicide is just the continuation of this, both extending mechanical complexity (maybe you should think about dropping your gun if you think you won't be able to keep the mood high enough), and the narrative experience, it doesn't exist just for the pure spectacle of seeing a cute thing blowing it's own brains out, you are in full power to prevent this.
finished game will have multiple endings and an option to escape, if that makes you feel better.
if you want a game that actually forces misery, play through naissancee and compare it to scav.

I can see some of the points you're making, the misery aspect of the game is absolutely a motivator for the player to improve precisely because one doesn't want to see the Expie suffer, but it's hard to not say Scav doesn't force misery like that other game mentioned.

You're gonna mess up, sure it's easy to say "you're fault, you're making it suffer" but one messes up in every game ever, even if it's due to negligent complacency when you've been playing for 3k hours and you think you can't mess up, but do. Messing up is more prone in games based on RNG, like Scav then in non RNG-y games.

It's part of the learning curve of the game, you're gonna mess up and yes, it's gonna suffer because of it, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes perfect logical sense because well, it's still having a horrible time and I doubt it thinks it's sitch makes perfect sense.

Slyders -- roguelite FPS, yeah-yeah, I know, but I enjoyed it as much as I did Roboquest. To anon who claimed it becomes "Serious Sam-like" with S+LMB -- you just suck. After a couple of first levels I'm rushing until every single fucker is dead.
Pigface -- I like Hotline Miami vibes and the idea of speedrunning individual levels. Reminds me of The Club which I never got to experience fully because of how bad the PC port was.
Buy on sale:
Hark the Ghoul & Verho -- new strange breed of souls inspired first-person RPGs. They might not be the greatest games out there, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet, so I want to jump on it before the definitive game comes out.
Inventorix -- I think those are called balatro-like now? Building crazy combos to beat an arbitrary score goal, but instead of cards it's inventory management. I liked Backpack Hero, so it's right up my alley. Also don't even try Backpack Hero on switch, controls are so butchered it's not even funny.
Under the Island -- I'm now regretting selling my deck earlier this year, would be a perfect game for that. It's a Link to the Past clone, you know how it goes. My only complaint is that the music is not good. Very generic, sounds like royalty free shit.
After Inc Revival -- a city builder that I hope just comes out on mobile so I can play it on the tablet laying in bed. Reminds me of Townsmen and damn I miss that series.

I don't get what people see in this. You start withy so much ammo I was able to kill every enemy without even switching from my starting gun or using melee once, you take like 3 sprays from a machinegun before you even need to worry about hp and you get the ability to fully heal at no cost right after the tutorial.
In my mind it was just a really bad FPS with absolutely no challenge at all with only 2 types of enemies and every mechanic except shooting felt like ass

Current progress on trader revamp.

I find very annoying when games switch to my OS language when I have Steam set in English.
I want the English translation that fits on the screen, not the bugged out clipped translations that 50% of the time wrong or weird.

the other problem is that a single screw up doesn't lead to a simple loss of HP. It punishes you disproportionately, and continues punishing you until you CAN take care of it, and makes it easier for these screw ups to arrive. Like brain damage makes it harder to see, meaning threats outside that range can close in on you that much easier. A busted jaw makes it painful to eat, so now you need painkillers. You then OD on painkillers. Like falling down a staircase of bad situations, because the previous step made the following one that much easier to slip on. Sadists find that kind of thing interesting.

Yeah, that sums it up. It sound great on paper, a Valheim-esque game but with a handcrafted map and NPCs to populate your base with so if you build and elaborate castle you're not alone. I have been playing dying light and it's fun but the combat feels awful, average zombie is made of concrete, and bandits are made of titanium,while i'm made of paper mache, while i'm playing on hard i still think it's not normal for a thug to take 12 pickaxe hit to the head when he is on the floor to the point i have to take breaks from hitting him and kick him to keep him down while my stamina regenerates, sometimes i use a charged attack (that it feels like it barely deals any more damage than a normal one) expect a zombie looks at me and activates it's fucking psychic power to cancel my attack and i just stand there for half a second watching the zombie calmly takes it's time to start the shitty bite animation that takes half my health, i hit a thug in the face and he acts like he got hit in the face, sometimes he pretends he did just to riposte me for half my health.
Maybe im just bad, maybe i should play on easy, maybe i should give up and use to op DLC weapons, i don't care tell i want to take a break from that game

In DL1 at the start, your weapons have shit durability(don't recommend to invest in mods for these ones). The strat is to farm weapons and avoid combat until your inventory is full. Then do the combat missions, and burn all your weapons. Also guns are OP as fuck thanks to head shots.
In DL2 combat is a lot better, but enemies still have bazillion HP and your stamina is a lot harder to grind. As you need to find drugs, that are generally in hard to reach places, gated behind either parkour, which requires easier to get drugs to reach(so you have to prioritise the easier ones) or places gated behind combat and stealth.
In general DL2 combat is a lot more grindy than 1, even after they added guns post-release.

Pretty sure the Chain type of weaponry was added in multiverse, basically for every volley you fire the weapon cooldown get reduced by an increment that last for that specific battle and there are multiple layers of it that can stack. Ie first shot take 9 sec to load, 2nd take 7, 3rd take 5, 4th take 3 and 5th take 0.9 sec. Its basically meant to overwhelm mid to late game shields because the damage itself is kind of meh (1 hull, 1 system) and it has a lower chance to hit because the strike area is an aoe zone rather than a pinpoint.

And here is the part that confuses me: the building system is VERY detailed, requiring a lot of different kind of materials, like logs, branches,flax, but also different kind of planks, and even scissor (?) to place the rock ground.
But you have to place all the elements separately, so while building is really fun, it's also very linear and doesn't allow any freedom.

Also, surprisingly, you don't seem to need to sleep, so my main building is a woodworking workshop, and the rest (farming, cooking, and so on) are just adds I place directly on the ground.
So far, I haven't got any building elements (like foundations or such) like in a normal game. I don't know if it's normal, but I'll keep playing and see.

Update on Riftbreaker. There are a bazillion technologies and they take like 2-7 minutes to research, even when you build all the speed up research buildings. I'm running low on patches of resources and I don't know how to get more besides the very expensive energy to matter generators. Also enemy waves are starting to spawn bosses that rape my defenses. At least there's a good selection of weapons and all the ones I've used seems to be viable.

Preemptively clear out those hives and you won't need nearly as many defenses per outpost. You really only should need passive defense, when the big waves come around 90% of the time your outposts will get shit on anyway, just keep your homebase fortified and rebuild after the attack. I'm having to babysit my base from waves of enemies every time I rift back to base. The natural widl life attacks you from several fronts, but it seems to have 1 boss per wave, so I wait until my radar tells me where it is, rift to where the boss is and murder it, while my other defenses takes care of the other fronts.

There are different biomes focused on a elemental gimmic(acid, radiation, space aids, etc). And you move there to exploit the resources, and then move back to base to expand some more, and research more stuff to kill even more stuff.

Rune factory GOA is actually really, really good. I'm relatively near the end (50 hours) and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that the game is well written with deep characters for the most part, surprisingly dark moments and a lot of content. Tried the 1.0 full release of Supermarket Simulator. Is it me or is this shit fucked? The balance feels completely off, self checkouts are insanely better than regular checkouts, storage is basically useless as it just makes you bring wares from Delivery to Storage to Shelf, when there's zero penalty for just using the side of the road & your shop floor for storage, in fact doing that seems a lot more optimized. You can buy shit from a store instead of having it delivered, but shit's so far away and you need so many boxes of shit (specially once you've unlocked more licenses and need to visit multiple shops) that it doesn't seem worth it at all. Like yeah, you'll save some money, but in the time you did your shopping, you could have played 3 more days. Hell, even the truck that you can eventually buy only lets you carry 4 boxes, so the inclusion of these shops seems pointless. It's also absolute ass that you can't tell how much inventory you have of something. There's dozens and dozens of products, do you expect me to have a mental list of every products stock in my fucking head when ordering? That's literally why IRL shops have electronic inventory systems. (also a feature that literally the free to play game supermarket together has figured out properly)

Depends on what you're looking for. I've only played the Forest and as a horror game it's superb. You'd think having coop buddies to good around with would diminish the impact a horror game can have, but I remember shitting our collective pants when we explored our first cave back in 2018 or something.
One mistake we did on our playthrough, was immediately going to all out war with the natives, because we were so used to enemies being enemies in games. I've since learned that the game is a lot more tense and enjoyable, if you try to coexist as long as possible. Their AI seems to be quite good for that sort of thing.
The building system caters to a certain type of autism, where you have to carry logs and stones almost one by one to build a structure (until you find better ways to transport them), which I personally liked, but many people find tedious. I've heard Sons of the Forest doubled down on that even more.

HOWEVER, it's one of those games that is out in 1.0 but still feels like late early access. There's still some jank you'll run into every now and then and the story/worldbuilding is absolutely nonsensical, once you finish the game and try to connect the dots. Most of them don't connect, they're just a bunch of clusters of dots while the main story is slapped on (quite literally, since it was patched in later) to the point where I've seen a video of someone stitching together just the intro and the final story location and it works almost seamlessly, which doesn't bode well fro your story, if you can replace the whole main gameplay loop with "several days later"

If that doesn't bother you, it's still a great time though.

I've never actually gotten far enough into the game to build a mine, but judging by the map selection menu it depends on the map.
There's only one where all 3 resources are infinite and I've already played on that, so I chose the one with iron this time. You start by setting up mines, generators, and so on. Then you set up production chains (for example, gas generator requires a pump, a swamp water treatment station, and so on), and then you start to set up defenses.
Periodically, Jews will try to attack your base, that's what the flamethrowers and gas turrets are for.

Once the map is more or less under your control and you go up the tech tree, you unlock the ability to teleport to other maps to set up local exploitation mines to get rare materials. Locals won't attack as long as you're in another map.

Why is building such... not a bore in Dragonwilds? It's annoying in Minecraft, Vintage Story, ARK, RUSE, Conan Exiles, Valheim, and yet, in Dragonwilds, I find it so oddly fun.

Think it might just depend on the player, I can never bring myself to play most survival games because the only one I've truly enjoyed was ARK, put in 1k hours there, but Palworld scratches the itch top.
Don't dislike building in either, I always tried to make a good looking home, if not excessive.

The enjoyment reminds me similarly to how in a JRPG you'll grind for days to get to a good level to fight the super boss at the end, but in survival games, you're working from the skin on your back to having a fortress filled with arms and in the case of ARK and Palworld, allies, to then take on the bosses. Building is just one part of they process though often a important one.

But since I've rambled enough, any games scratch the ARK/Palworld itch? I have one on my wishlist that's releasing Q3 but I'm still skeptical, Enshrouded looks good but everyone says it gets shallow.

I see survival games as... kinda like that Viscera Cleanup Simulator: there's probably one or two parts of the game that you like, so you put up with the rest to get to the part you really like.
Enshrouded is, on paper, very good, but it just feels odd. Like, it lacks soul. I always feel like there was no real plan, and dev just added tiers and assets without deciding beforehand what would work. It's hard to explain.

If you can stand jank, there's Conan Exiles, it's a bit reminiscing of ARK, except that dinosaurs are replaced by slaves. And it's also quite racist, like the original work. Don't agree to share a dinner with the Darfaris, they're cannibals.
Then, of course, there are the other survivals, but they don't have any taming mechanism, so I'm not sure it's interesting to review them. You probably saw Chinese Frontier or Vintage Story earlier, and Dragonwilds that I posted is not a survival, it's more of a RPG with crafting. Think... Dark Souls' world, except that you have to make a kitchen to craft food to get that poison resistance before you head to Blighttown.

Didn't expect to enjoy Magicube this much. As a steam review said, the graphics sucks, the music sucks, the controls sucks, but the puzzle are all incredibly well-crafted. Even the first puzzles are real brain wracker. I still have the last couple of levels left but I wanted to post about it.

I think I need to invest in plants, but I dunno if fortified a fughuge chunk of ground in my main base or use one of the outposts. There's just nothing to talk about with ARK.
I've 400 hours, and it's a fun game. But the shortcomings are really obvious and crippling. PvP is just horrible in practice. Breeding strategies have long ago been optimized. The game doesn't really function as a solo player, and has to be changed significantly for small tribes (but does work fine).
It's also for some reason a woman game. As in I think the population balance was genuinely around 50/50. The breeding and base building aspects really appealed to women I guess.
It's a game I'd quickly recommend at times, but also one I have absolutely zero desire to play right now. They also have some terrible business practices between some of their absurd DLC pricing and the scam rerelease.
I'm hopeful for ARK 2 in that it'll be less buggy and hopefully more supportive of players that aren't in a Chinese megaclan, but I kind of doubt there will be any real change.

Abso-fucking-lutely I did, Dino's take minutes to tame, and if I don't wanna bother wasting time for something I'll know that'll get done anyway, I'll do it instantly with the console.

I customized my .ini's a fuck ton, including rasing the stack size for most items, increasing resource gain, increasingly player stat gain per level, and downloading the custom dino levels to eliminate mutation breeding. You can do a lot to eliminate the unnecessary grind while still enjoying a closely vanilla ARK.

If you're playing solo the first step is to turn on Small Tribes Mode which drastically reduces tame times and build costs.
Tame times really aren't that bad even vanilla though; you're not meant to babysit them, just check in every once in a while. If you're solo instead of a new tribemate taking over when you log out the game just pauses so no big deal.

There are three things I would consider incompatible with playing solo though. The first is basic gathering; the standard strategies only sort of work at best with a single player. The standard methods just require two or three players to pilot their various dinos, alternatives were MUCH less effective. The second is breeding. The time sink that is breeding is enormous. I don't want to get into it but there's a lot of issues with the system, and the benefits are massive and required for the third part. The third, final, and IMO most important part, is bossing. Bossing is nigh impossible solo. You just can't adequately control the dinos, especially if you're trying to do anything more complex than Rex spam, and without bonded riders your DPS is garbage. I understand a lot of people are happy to just never engage with bosses, but while a solo player could conceivably do some of the easier bosses those like Dragon and Overseer are just out of reach.

Last year about this time. I did Darkest Dungeon and beat it on first try, without spoilers (ok exccept one) in any part of the game. What I did for spoiler was the big circular dungeon location of the room. I went blind to the last fight, and won

time to do my second run, with that fucking time limit. Let's go and lose. Because what else grows a person than pain and loss and regret

Combat's a bit weird, I think it's meant to be played in the third-person, but I prefer first person.
Dodging is ctrl, blocking is alt, you have fast attacks and heavy attacks, and so far, the weapons I got were oars, spear, naginata, kanabo, knife, kama, bow. But I know that you later get katanas and wakizashis.

For the few I saw, you do have a need for security that is fulfilled by a militia, but killing bandits has to be done by you, directly. You can also build defenses, so I assume that eventually it comes to blows.
