I loved this release, and I'm glad it focused so much on character development for the main trio. I think it was the right creative decision not to have a "schizo" boss that took up all the air in a chapter.
That said, there is a hole in my heart where the community-anticipated schizo bosses were going to be.
I hope chapter 5 is psychotic to make up for it.

And then they get back together again after being reuinted, like the naive hope of a child after the divorce
Y'know, it's kinda funny how we were so set before on the secret bosses being caused directly by Gaster, an entity that hasn't even been named in the game thus far. Something that the average player would never really get without delving into the history/code.
The Knight being behind it all is such a simpler answer. It's our antagonist bound to the Prophecy the same way we are. It is making the secret boss stuff in each Dark World so we can have a shot at breaking the prophecy through the power it lends us with the Shadow Crystals.

They often found that bullies who didn't get the reaction they wanted either left them alone, or doubled their efforts. It was always a gamble.
But the silent treatment didn't work this time, and she surprised them by lifting them up by a single clawed hand, slowly edging them closer to her snarling jaws, open wide to make good on her threat. It made their heart hammer inside their chest.
She had let them go in the end, but they still wished she hadn't.

I think it's become pretty clear that Kris can play the piano just fine with or without the Soul inside of him. He intentionally slams his fingers onto the keys to stop us from playing. He doesn't want to play to an audience (including YOU), and only does so in Chapter 4 at Susie's insistence. He's mad at having to make it seem like he's bad at playing when he stops us.
The question now is; why doesn't he want to play in front of others? This behaviour seems to be consistent all the way back to the Spamton Sweepstakes entry in Noelle's past. I assume it has something to do with The Incident(Dess getting mulched by Based Asgore's truck).

Okay, Iโve figured it out. Iโve figured out what happened, what Ralsei was up to. When you destroy a prophecy panel, it ends up somewhere else. At the very end of Chapter 4, Susie rushes ahead and Ralsei follows behind. Along the way, the final panels of the prophecy appear, but there is one significant gap between the panels where two could appear. I think Ralsei destroyed the panel there because he knew we couldnโt look for it in the rest of the chapter.
Ralsei appears from below after the titan is defeated, and I think he did that purposefully to give himself plausible deniability. When we try and fail to think about the night before, Ralsei runs ofd screen as it fades to black. Him taking advantage of the fade-to-blacks has been a recurring thing with him since chapter 1.

When they finally give her that, she stops, says they can't hide their passion to "play" and then gives them an armor that specifically will work against them in the next fight so it can go long enough to chip off another Shadow Crystal and a better weapon for Kris to fight the coming things.
ERAM also uses a ton of stuff referenced in Noelle's game blog. That makes sense here too, it was Dess in the past trying to connect with/mess with Noelle the only way she could. But the Dess of now is clearly so far gone she's even willing to joke about the SOUL basically mindraping her sister. Hell, she may even be involved. We never do find out where Spamton got the ThornRing from.

The Shadow Crystal stuff is something Dess is doing on a more personal level. She's the one pushing the idea of freedom onto Kris. She's trying to set a fire in him to overcome her and the Prophecy in secret while in public they play their roles out.
Her giving you the Shadow Mantle lets you have a chance to fight her enough for the Black Shard and Shadow Crystal. Right after you manage that, the fight is forced to end.
ERAM even says that they have to stop playing cause "WE BOTH have work to do". She's talking about the coming fight at the end of the chapter right next to the game room.
Basically think of the Shadow Crystals as a "Plan B" that Dess is pushing for while still serving whatever/whoever is making them go down the path of the Prophecy.

The Deltarune is pixels, RGB, light transposed onto the screen giving the world form. Gaster wants you to build him a Deltarune so he can build a world. In his attempt to build one, you, Kris, Sans, get sucked into the machine thatโs creating it. One of the worlds is Undertale,
