Yugioh is incredibly complex. I've played basically every major card game and Yugioh is the one that has the biggest hurdle to play and a lot of it boils down to how fast the game is and how much information is hidden from you and how much each card does.
A combo in any other game is something like
>Card A deals damage equal to the amount of cards you send from their Deck to the GY.
>Card B makes your opponent send 10 cards from their Deck to the GY.
>This two card combo makes you deal 10 damage to the opponent immediately, which is strong.
A combo in Yugioh is
>Card A summons Card B from deck.
>Card B searches Card C from deck.
>Card C is activated which searches Card D from deck.
>Card D has an effect to summon itself, and Card D also summons Card E from Deck.
>Card F, which was in the Extra Deck, can now be summoned using Card A and B as material
>Card F is summoned which resummons Card B from GY
>Card F and B are used to summon Card G from the Extra Deck, this card stuns the opponent out of playing cards and was made purely from the whimsy of retarded card designers and will be banned in 6 months
>Cards D and E are used to make Card H, which is a negate.
Unless the player is already knowledgable about said archetype and combo, the player wouldn't be able to know the potential of Card A, or figure out that Card A could lead to Card G and H. All this is also assuming the player read 2-3 effects each for every card from A to H to get to grips with EVERY potential play they have, and this all spawns from a single card.
The base rules ultimately don't mean dick, and having extra complications like "Wow your card said X instead of Y and therefore in this scenario you can't use it :)" mixed in makes it impossible to grasp for most people.
Konami entirely gave up getting people to actually learn the game. The OCG hasn't had a Starter Deck in 6 years and the TCG struggled to output one themselves and fucked up teaching core concepts

Long combo by default is an aspect of complexity and is ultimately a hurdle to newer players to get over to get to actually play the game.
Having to know and understand Card A through Card H to know what Archetype A does is something players absolutely need to learn to be able to play the game at a baseline level. This knowledge of Archetype A also doesn't help you at all to understand the gameplay of Archetype B, C, D or E making up a good chunk of what people will face at locals and above commonly, because each archetype fundamentally plays different and has different weaknesses and dodges other weaknesses in little ways.
And in a few months, Archetype A-E could vanish out of thin air in favor of Archetypes F-J, which you would also have to learn, but also still remember that Archetypes A-E still exist and can suddenly surprise you so remember that Card A of Archetype A results in Card G and H of Archetype A, and how to stop them on top of knowing what you need to stop from Archetypes B-J.
Yugioh is never in a moment to let the opponent figure out what is going on until it is too late, mostly because everything happens in a single turn. This overwhelming information IS complexity

I think the reason why I love Kaiba so much as a character is because he goes through the most growth from anyone on DM, yet at the same time he's never "redeemed" like "rivals" such as vegeta nor sasuke. he never turns good and never admits a loss to yugi and instead takes each loss as a stepping stone that gets him closer. and having the coolest looking dragon in anime doesn't hurt.

Alternatively I've always wanted a competitive Egyptian Gods Deck but apparently they weren't even rogue when their support released except for maybe Ra, and it was expensive as real gold when it came out. Osiris and Obelisk got structure decks but the strong one had been Ra and his cards weren't readily available unless you were willing to play premium for a pet deck.

That's my taste in cards.
Actually I was never a /fan/ of red-eyes, I just decided to be different and pick something that wasn't the original protagonist or his rival, I loved Phoenix Gearfried because of the warrior's strike structure deck and when remaking it I found it was tightly connected to Joey cards (gemini red-eyes cards, equip fire warriors, Immortal Phoenix Gearfried literally looks like an alternative timeline monster in which Joey won the power of Ra and it powers up Gearfried) so I decided hey I like equips and burn damage, let's make a Red Eyes deck. But Konami is unwilling.

You know what, just like they made an OC Archetype of Joey using Metalmorph to evolve his cards despite it being Bandit Keith's style, they should combine Red-Eyes and Gearfried cards with Winged Dragon of Ra.

Because Salamangreat still stands tall and proud as a deck that has lengthy combos that run into nibiru and extend past it, yet the thing was a prime Starter deck that led new players have fun in the shitfest that was MR4.

I don't see people calling schools bad because you need to learn to succeed there, likewise, learning combos and matchups isn't a problem. Nobody should care about matchups beyond those within the format, anyone bringing up Mirror force is just a 1 time wonder you won't encounter again.

It is a problem when the difficulty of learning said combos and matchups is much higher compared to other games. It's the way Yugioh is structured that is ultimately the problem. Yugioh as a game is far too fast to be easily digestible and the learning too format-specific to be able to accurate get newer players up to speed with what they should know.
It's the reason why the OCG has largely given up with actually trying to teach people the game, and just accepted that people will either come from Master Duel or the people in the shop will go through the effort to teach you instead. There is no tutorial or document that will be able to get people to understand modern Yugioh, and attempting to learn via playing modern Yugioh is filled with a lot of failure until you "get it".
In a game like MTG for example, you could teach someone the basics and what each color generally does, and that knowledge can be extrapolated to the modern game quite well. Red is burn and aggro, Blue is draw and stopping you etc. The game ultimately sucks cock, but its easily learnable.
Yugioh doesn't quite operate on the same level because there is nothing binding anything together. Despite both being Synchro decks, Mannadium and Centur-Ion act completely differently for example. One is comboslop and the other is a grindy control deck.
Adaptability is a key skill in a lot of games, but its largely missing from Yugioh in favor of bulk learning because of the speed of the game. It causes players to flail blindly against decks they don't know because any card can do anything and cause anything and it leads to "just use anything that glows" gameplay

KoA and KoE are operating on thin budgets and can't really afford to be too experimental. In addition, when Rush was being produced by the OCG, the TCG was already full-force with Speed Duel. At the time, Konami had 3 options

The very first day I bought the BEWD SDs I was looking for ways to play Secret Village but couldn't find any, that's a nice idea. It cucks all decks I've faced, they all require spells to truly get going.


And yeah I'm sadly finding out I don't have many opportunities to summon boss monsters from my ED against the stronger decks, they obviously don't let me swarm the field enough for that and nearly everything can respond to Azure's attempt to negate their face up board, he might be getting cut whenever I run into difficult foes.

Watching the short made me realise how barebones the writing is in it.
Like why and how did the Dogmatika form and decide to follow Maximus? What made characters like Fleur and Ecclesia obey him? They talk in such vague and broad terms, but the attention to detail isn’t there.
