I've been thinking and I suspect the Weird Route doesn't necessarily have to have a bad ending. I think that you can spare Berdly with the hospital interaction and that the true end goal of Weird Route is to get Noelle and Kris to repair their relationship and stop repressing their trauma, allowing them to finally find closure. Think of it like playing Omori from Basil's perspective. Your job as player is to stop them from indulging in excessive escapism and make them wake up and taste the pain, so they don't ruin their lives in the long run.

You have to remember at the time, the ending was a TWIST that you were only playing ch1 of a much bigger game. Susie's development didn't feel rushed back in 2018 because that was the entire game. Even with ch2 it spanned like 50% of the game so you didn't notice it very much. But now with ch3&4 it feels like she finished most of her arc at the very beginning of the game and sorta stagnates the rest of the time.
I think Susie, Kris and Ralsei interactions feel more organic in ch3&4 because they've been together for long enough that it makes sense they're all friends now. The main problem is her becoming genuine friends with them should've spanned ch1&2. Heck you could even squeeze in some more Suselle interactions in ch2, have Noelle be the reason why softens up or something.
