The original definition of rouglite is any game with random generated content that has any sort of progression mechanic after death. In Rouge you die you lose everything in a Rouglite you die but you can carry over some currency or other buff between runs. That is the original definition. Other characters with high damage ults like other anon said. The standard tactic is kiting a large enemy over to the statue and having them break it but that is a chump move in NR. If you don't play a class with an ult that can break the statue don't sweat it they are only marginally better than a random crate having the +1 stone anyway.
Stones are in the consumables loot pool and you can get that pool to trigger 50 times at a camp by crates and chests on day 1. You also stock up on the other consumables you want.

Don't be like an ergtroon and say you don't have time to check and get supplied, they end up at level 15 during the beginning of day 2 and then complain they had to go at sanic speeds. They play the game wrong with rune+ relics then don't know where to get +1 stones and shit. Play the game normally and you'll still beat the boss easily and learn how the game's ins and outs.

There are people so sanicpilled they never open chests or run through boxes. They don't even clear the first shitcamp you land by.
In theory you can prostrat your way to your first camp/fort boss kill and supply up at a merchant or only break the boxes at a church while getting your flask but that limits you pretty hard and has you dipping into your runes too much for things that are easy to get for free while you are at a place anyway.
It is a byproduct of being hyperoptimized when the game isn't hard enough to need it. Maybe it is warranted in the new nightmare bosses because you do want to be level 15 there but in the normal runs you can beat these bosses easily at 10. The closer you get to 15 the more the final boss feels like a pubstomp, you can afford to slow down enough to stock up really nicely and still play well.
You only really do that supplying up on day 1 anyway. If you did it well you have a pretty full inventory and 6 weapons with decent passives you are now ready to upgrade with better loot from boss drops. Having shitty gear with good passives equipped will make your boss loot better overall too.

If you pick up gear your future loot drops from those crystals will be weighted toward the gear you have already. You can see the effect really strongly when you pick up a greatshield with someone that isn't guardian, your drops will now have passives for guards and guard countering, or blue/purple greatshields.
It does this with the passives on weapons also. If you pick up a damage negation while charging passive on a falchion with raider you will probably get a better item in the future from a boss crystal that has a better damage negation %.
When running through boxes or opening chests on day 1 you want to stock up your 6 weapon slots with items that have good passives for your class. If they have a really shitty combination like a dagger with the damage negation on charge with a raider you might want to skip it you don't want daggers having good weighting in his loot pool. If a Wylder guy kills a banished knight and a magic infused banished knight sword drops he might not want it, the magic scaling makes it do a little less than something like fire and it will now make magic type weapons show up in his pool more. Guardian wants to pick up pokey weapons like thrusting swords/spears/great variants with passives that buff guarding for instance but if you want to be cheeky with him you can grab a sacred seal with a buff like blessings boon and now his weapons will weight toward faith so you can get the beastclaw hammer or siluria's spear, you'll get the pattern of what you want and don't after playing more. Melee characters holding starlight shards so they can feed them to rev and recluse on day 3? Nah nigga drop those and ping them those items are also influencing your loot pool. Warming stones and starlight sharts make those passives that give hp or fp regen show up more often, so you might want them.
There is an art to picking up the trash weapons on day 1. And you can still only marginally influence the system but you can influence it.

The loot generation for boss items checks your inventory and the character class to generate gear. If you have 3 staves equipped on wylder when checking a boss crystal you will get magical gear or passives along with 1 wylder style upgrade as your options.
Its why Rev players get caught in the colossals line of weapons. A few of the colossals are faith scaling weapons like GSGS so the game does give colossals to Rev players. If they take that sacred colossal hammer at level 3 they will keep getting colossals showing up in their loot pool more regularly so they can climb the rarity ladder to their orange. If they took the godslayer seal they will get more seals to marginally upgrade that one.

You have to have magical gear in your inventory to start the ball rolling. And it has to be meaningful for it to happen. Going back to the greatshield example above - say you found a greatshield, like the jellyfish one, and picked it up. Shields and passives for guarding will now show up more often than if you never had a greatshield. Now, if you ignore all those options you never really saw the build the game could have built you if you went all in on that build.
In your raider example, the weapons that were on class for raider probably had passives for int types that you didn't value and didn't choose and didn't see the goofy not good class you would have ended up with.
You can see bad revenant and recluse players not seeing the system at play by checking their gear. Recluse will be all int staves and int cleavers but half of them say they buff incantations or charged incants, she took the wrong items while only looking at the damage number on the weapon. Rev players have all faith but all int buffs, they took the raw spell power (but overlapped spells) and didn't look at the passives.

If you build right all your weapons and their passives line up with what you are doing. Everything will be blue or better rarity by day 3 and you have max synergy. The items you pick from bosses is like a line with dots along it. You want to keep it as straight and narrow for what you are trying to do. Relics you start with and items you pick up while playing can influence the rng to keep your line straight and clean so you get to your endgame legendary options more often.

You can negate most of it and then some with hp regen on katanas and hp regen on successive attacks.
But the cursed sword is bad for attacking so don't use it. It can never upgrade so it is always weak and it is meant for parry spam. If you go all in on the cursed sword it is cool.

Everything always does an initial standard attack since that is just what they call the first attack you do. With bows its easy to do the first attack and then reset and do the first attack again.
Also good for raider and his huge weapons. If you do a big hit then roll then do that r1 ground hit with the weapon that is 2 initial standard attacks.

I know its a ruse because I got caught in their fake lobbies multiple times before he said it was a ruse a few days ago. I've had no issues using it. Everyone's been super nice and usually communicates well with pings.

Its fine as is. Most characters have a fine build using 2 story relics and a good on character grand scene relic. The 2 relics wylder uses for +1 grapple and the follow up are already good so you have a free relic slot to enhance the build. Using those relics also gives you the fire on ult passive 'for free.'
It is a fine economical build for john nightreign at 2 relics and leans into what he is best for, with a 3rd relic of madam's choosing you really get a show.
