Depends, the total time changes to it and the third bonk you're getting are going to make maintaining it during those important windows easier. It's going to feel bad to drop it in between packs and you might just get unlucky with uptime on it but the 2p/4p bonuses are so much stronger for 11.2 it might not matter. If you have like 670+ then you can get by just getting trinkets (you need medallion to break cc, and 2 pvp trinkets gives you 15% stamina bonus), imo.
PVP gear has tons of versatility so it's definitely not close to optimal and you'll want to grab conquest pieces as soon as you can afford them, but it's not as bad as being naked and might even be better than honor gear that only scales to 665.

For getting elite sets depends how good or bad you are at pvp desu, at least for smaller scale (2s/3s arena if you are planning to go with friends, solo shuffle otherwise), in Blitz you can get (carried) to >2k without conquest gear probably

If you're going to grind honor, get the vicious flask of something from the auction house that increases your honor gains by 15%
There's also some bloody tokens you get from doing weeklies and WQs in the world with WM on that give gear that's almost as good as conquest

You get free conquest weapons after gaining (not spending) total 2500 conquest points so don't waste resources buying or crafting a good one. You also get 9 of the items that you can use to craft pvp gear, you can make 3 max level accessories (neck + 2 rings) or other slots depending on your needs, and save on conquest points.

Emerald dream in DF was really jolting and bizarre, but undermine was just another level of disconnection. For the first time i felt like my character would be standing there going "why the fuck am i here? what are we doing? what's going on?"
