I like the spinoff characters but I'll have to sort of disagree with the whole taking some over the original cast. I can understand that with labrys because she existed before P4 her first mention being in a P3 dramacd and being further expanded in arena. But the other spinoff characters are made and written for 1 game unlike the OG cast who you can showcase more outside of their mainline game. Sho is too much of a edgy donutsteel and the rest feel like their stories are complete in the spinoff that you can't expand much of anything outside of it sadly.

I don't think 3 and 5 have the same character driven art style approach in the way 4 did. So there is no character in 3/5 that informs the design philosophy the way Chie did. Everything about 4 was to create the realistic, down to Earth throwback atmosphere. 3 and 5 are much more "modern" with their respective art styles, both taking place in more major metropolitan areas and having a lot less design elements in common with a specific era of the past.

I think at least for me the fact that they do have a game to themselves is sort of the advantage they have, it gives them more time to develop compared to the smaller arcs the main casts get, then they have to contend with shared screentime
Though obviously it depends on the spinoffs themselves, Toshiro and Erina are great examples of that kind of structure working really well, and Hikari, as I said before, is on the other end of that spectrum, though it's not really her fault
But on the point of expansion I'd disagree and say P5's phantom thief model leaves plenty of room for those characters to be used again (hell that's basically how the gacha operates, everyone's a phantom thief), but Labrys and Sho are a bit more stuck because they're pretty heavily tied to P3/4's world, not just their story, and with P5 not really focusing on any of that stuff it'd be harder to draw them back without causing issues
One particular idea I've always kind of liked though that would bring all/most of them back would be some kinda Suicide Squad deal

Was Ann really the first drawing of a Phantom Thief? Her costume does seem to have the most attention paid to it. And considering the fact that the only thing that sets Makoto apart is blue hair, I guess it would make sense if he was the first character designed in 3 as well. But I just don't see a very strong artistic vision when I see his design. He's the most generic one compared to his teammates who all have more flavor. Blue is blue, cool, but that doesn't really inform us about anything. Sadness? Water? Even Yu being gray and colorless in his color scheme works for the setting perfectly because of the storm clouds/rain/fog/static.

Scramble is good because it actually does things with the cast that feels meaningful unlike the others and while the musou gameplay is a hit or miss it's atleast fun if you do enjoy musou and does something unique with the genre by mixing persona elements with it. PQ2's issue is that the cast is too large and it doesn't accommodate that with different paths unlike the first game while still having a worse story and spinoff characters. P5D is a cashgrab. We'll have to wait and see for P5X it might actually end up being decent story wise despite being gacha.

The gameplay as far as I've seen is just watered down typical gacha gameplay but with some P5 mechanics slapped in it and since it's a gacha the story will be going on and on until it doesn't get enough money to sustain itself like most gacha do. Femc is one of the issues but she's not the main issue. Yeah they focused too much on her but the biggest elephant in the room is the fact that the cast is way too big and unlike the first game doesn't have 2 separate routes that give a different perspective that allows all of the vast to shine. Remakes are modern versions of older games they're made for newer fans most of the time and fans that also want to experience the same game again but mechanically different with a new coat of paint. FF7R's issue is that it claimed to be a remake when it's not and newer fans will play this game without playing the original and acting like they're fans of FF7 when they're not. This all falls in line with SH2 where SMTfags somehow get some sort of spine due to the art style, hating on a game introducing new concepts to SMT, expanding Chaos/Law in new directions and depth with Iron Mask and Figue showcasing aspects that haven't been in the series since the fucking SNES days. We used to get good human designs in this series for persona forms that were human but not exactly human like pic related. Now everything is the same base 3D humanoid model with random ass shit attached to it. It's obviously due to animation costs and developing the models is cheaper, since most animations are done with MOCAP due to it being quick and optimal for doing animations in bulk with renting equipment. This is heavily true for P5X and Metaphor where the party member content is all reuse. At least metaphor had something for monsters, even if they didn't design it themselves and took it from some painting. Atlus makes millions from Persona 5 alone. Can't they afford to be a little creative outside of Makoto's Persona line?

EO largely doesn't have waifushit either - the closest thing is with the Untold games, but as everything else is blank-slate self-insert characters the concept of waifuism doesn't work - there's no character to waifu.
It's also 1-probably not dead dead - it did just get a bunch of ports like a year ago. and 2- the biggest problem with it is the death of handheld consoles, not anything to do with the reception of the games themselves. It's the same thing as trauma centre - no motion controls/touchscreen stuff = no more TC games. At least for EO they've shown that there's a workaround for that that they've put time into working on.

Like if a story was about pirates on the moon, they'd call that original because they can't think of another story about pirates on the moon.
