As I said in that thread, Hometown is probably just a small-ass town. We don't really know anything about the nation it lives in (or if there are even nations) but we know there's other places besides Hometown (there's a mention of a photo of a "far-off, snowy city" in Ch 4, Noelle's house) so we don't know how many humans are even in the region or what laws they have about such things, there is a popup during a fight in Ch2 about "monsters 4 humans in your area" so monster-human relationships are presumably legal and there's enough interest to run ads.

Even if say this nation or whatever has places where humans and monsters live side by side, there just probably isn't much reason for a human to go to Hometown. Just look at the place, do you see any real reason to move there? And unless you had a family with you, you and Kris would be the only humans around in a town of weirdo monsterfolk you don't know at all.

Knight wants to kidnap people, presumably to take them to the bunker, I guess Kris wants the same. They're trying to create a different world they can all live in for whatever reason, maybe just to bring someone back from the dead as the Gerson thing established is possible. The dark world is underground, so it fits Undertale's premise. Sans and Papyrus in-universe in UT basically inexplicably showed up out of nowhere one day, ie they were among the last to get thrown in the bunker. Sans vaguely seems to remember some things but maybe the longer you spend there amnesia of your "real" life sets in, or it could be a post-roaring thing that led to amnesia since there's no light anymore idk. I think it's very possible by the end of DR we learn that the world of UT is technically fake, so the whole thing will kind of have a depressing backdrop to it in retrospect, we kind of just have to accept the characters are making the best of what they've been given even though they're completely unaware of their original base-reality lives and how they've been ripped from them.

The one issue I potentially have with Weird Route is that we have no idea, as the player, where it's going. This seems like in a metanarrative sense it could only lead to more "You did this just to fuck around?" scolding which was already done in Undertale.
