I look at everyone's relics at the beginning of the match and only about 1/20 matches with erg does someone have CE-tier relics but still theoretically obtainable.
This guy is the only one i've seen so far that put effects onto relics that don't belong then played with erg.

when I play with my friends, we have rev(me), duchess, and ironeye. the duchess rewind mark and status procs and we shred bosses, yet when I play with randoms, duchess players seem like they have brain damage. Why is this the case?

Forget about rolling, forget about not taking attacks (block them instead), when in doubt, always Steel Guard, always go for a Guard Counter if you can.
Practice Steel Guard in the roundtable Sparring Grounds, spam that shit until you get muscle memory for it.

Always be on the frontline, always try to draw aggro upon yourself.

Every nightfarer benefits greatly from 1 to 3 of their class-specific effects.
There's a few no-brainers like Partial HP Recovery on Post-Damage attacks for Raider, or stamina recovers with each successful attack for Duchess, but otherwise it's just whatever you can fit in that makes sense for how you play the class.

I sucked with him until I put prolonged skill duration, reflect on blocks and ultimate gain on blocks.
these 3 things made him feel like what he's meant to be straight away. now that I have them I perform normally like any character.
(Which sucks. he's really undertuned and shouldn't need relics just to be viable)

I stick as close to the boss as possible, pull up shield, attack with thrusting weapons behind the shield to grab his attention, and steel guard only right before getting hit so that I recover stamina between hits.
every time he hits my shield he charges my ult so that I can ress teammates with 3 bars.
I have yet to use my ult for team invincibility, because when I do so it gets wasted by teammates not knowing/acting upon it. using it only for resses means I save some and recharge it sooner.

nah, none of them get to guarantee stack all the talismans and buffs to do what they did in Elden Ring.
Raider for example is still pretty decent with jump attacks but isn't anywhere close to an ER jump attacker with two +25/+10 colossals.
Recluse and Revenant rely on a bit of rng to feel as powerful as ER caster builds and they also don't readily get any equivalent to blue chugs to maintain it at the same rate.
It's really just the mobility and i-frame related Nightfarers and skills that feel a lot stronger, but that's moreso due to the pace shift of this game compared to ER.

He really isn't to be quite honest. Even when my greatshield character was like level 50 or so he was way better than guardian. Guardian can't even move really once his shield is. And because stamina is so crucial to shielding, he can't even regen his stamina by dropping his shield momentarily because if he does then it takes too long to reenter steel guard stance. That is by far the biggest thing I've realized while trying to play guardian. Not just his lack of damage but he's always starved for stamina. Normal Greatshield Character from ER will never be as starved for stamina and will have huge damage potential still.

I think you are missing my point. The very thing that Guardian is meant to do is block and shield. But because of how steel guard works, he is WORSE at it then base elden ring guy. Due to how stamina management works and all of the many drawbacks of steel guard stance.

Meanwhile all of the Nightreign characters can do things that normal ER guy can't ever do. Like go immortal for 15 seconds. Have near invincibility while dodging and restaging like dutchess, grapple hook for extreme mobility, etc etc.

Untrue, steel guard gives you massive magic damage negation for free, gives you unparalleled block stamina reduction and generally just works.
I'm not sure what you think the drawback is. It's a little awkward to enter because you have to move forward or sidestep, ok. But otherwise it's superior to regular block, even elden ring block, in literally every way

The relic from the new shop is pretty good for a cursed-sword focused executor. HP + ult charge on guard adds up if you find yourself deflecting a lot. The dmg up on the suncatcher but hurting yourself with every swing is okay, not that impactful in either direction but you still end up with a good 2/3 relic. Other than that the usual stuff as the other anon mentioned. Physical damage up if you can find it helps all your stuff too but it's a lesser priority

Which boss? A lot of them have gimmicks I found that alleviate it. Adel is the only spastic that will literally just spam drive by moves I found. Like to cover some of the bases:

I didn't "abuse" fingerprint. I played sword and shield ever since I found lordsworn straight sword in limgrave. I used that sword all game long, I killed both malenia and radahn consort without changing a thing on it.
(you can't attack from behind the shield with straight swords, I used guard counters and weapons skill)
fingerprint was the logical upgrade for me.

guardian is just undertuned. he does low damage with slow weapons. even his guard counters suck because the halberd is too slow.
and giving him an even slower, "charged", guard counter is a total misinterpretation of how guard counters work. they're supposed to be fast, low stamina moves for stance breaking. I pull up shield and block, use fast guard counters in-between boss attacks, and crit him after stance breaks.

Darkdrift Knight should not be harder than the final boss. The final boss is absurdly easy compared to the Darkdrift. Friends and I were able to do the final boss, first try with no prior knowledge of the fight.
Comparatively the Darkdrift Knight feels massively overtuned for not even being near the bottom of the boss list. His 2nd phase is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe I'm just salty but I seriously feel like he's OP compared to every other boss.

The shockwaves travel basically the arenas length in a line but are deadzones up close and can be rolled on reaction. That long combo he does with his gross arm that ends with a slam only requires you to avoid 3 hits, the first hit, the second hit, and the last hit. You can jump the shadow arm slams.

You can interrupt the lightshow with lightning damage and every other attack can be dodged either on reaction or on reaction by rolling to your right (his left)
He only really has the lightning check that keeps the fight honest.

When he charges the arena you can surge sprint out of the ground aoe.

In fact the only boss who is weak to their own element is Libra and his description explicit says this even if you ignore the little madness icon.
Adel's weakness to frost and rot also isn't on the same level as what just the numbers imply either, this is true for all the bosses.
Yeah they all acrue at the same rate but in adel case he takes significantly more damage from poison and it's got the special stun/frontload in his first phase.

It's better to stick with a characters prefered weapon, bows in ironeyes case, since they get unique movesets that are generally a step above the generic one, iron eye shoots faster and has a better heavy attack for example.
Crossbows are a oddcase since they have no scaling and therefore always do the maximum damage possible on all characters, only exception being too low a level for blue/purple ones. Blocking with any colossal weapon is great, the ~30% of the damage from the hit you eat is totally worth the massive chunk of stance damage you deal with the guard counter. Shield poking is still just as good as it's always been, if not better than ever. They even added an entire weapon type (read: 2 whole weapons lol) specifically about blocking while attacking.

Standard blocking is almost never worth it, unless you know the enemy ends its attack combo on the attack you're trying to block you'll just get your stamina blasted and then smashed by the rest of the combo. Greatshield blocking is the one exception, because it ends the combo of medium sized enemies, still costs a ton of stamina though. Steelguard blocking on bird is the only blocking that actually reliably stops all kinds of damage.

Not sure I found Guardian to be supremely boring to play do I don't use him much, but if he has a relic like that, yeah, he's also extremely strong. If you have competent DPS with you while running a good guardian they can literally have 100% damage uptime.

Executor was by far the best purely because the end fight. Sure it was easy but the atmosphere is gwyn tier.
I’d probably say Revenant or Raider second purely because I enjoyed just fighting 1v1 in a room and I liked the aesthetic of them.
Duchess next best, the realization felt well done compared to wylders as well as the interaction with Raider.
I didn’t like wylders, ironeyes or recluse desu, they felt like the had the typical dark souls lore of unexplained nonsense tying it together which I don’t think works well here since we don’t have enough outside lore to piece the whole picture together.
Guardians was the worst for me. Embarrassing dialogue, a lot of it felt cringy and the fake decision at the end is the worst.

Holy fuck Radahn's Swords are the best weapon on raider and it's not even close.
Had 3 weapon passives of 2h damage, and a improved initial standard attack relic on just now and was hitting for over 800 damage on the opener R1 over and over.
And since it's considered 2-handing, you can still have a weapon on your back with something like Many Periodical Glintblades
