Okay, am I crazy, or is the following a bug? I've noticed that sometimes when using auto equip to gear up characters for Last Night, it'll sometimes ignore certain items. I think I've noticed that even though it shows the gear as unequipped, it actually knows it's being used in another setting, and it apparently reads from fiend hunts and maybe guild raids.
When an item is in use, it'll have a tiny portrait of who's currently using said item, but when trying to gear up in LN, it doesn't show a portrait, but it skips the item all the same as if it was in use.
If I go and unequip gear from those other formations, suddenly I'm able to equip gear that's already supposed to be equipable
Pic is an example of Celia ignoring a rank 4 staff that's equipped by someone else in fiend hunt, and also shows a neat bug I just found: if I manually equip the staff, then hit remove all, it only removes the staff and won't remove anything else.
And now there's a little portrait on that initial staff even though it's supposed to be unequipped

very important in the late game.
you can brute force later normal mode story packs with 2 +5 dps and some supports but it's hard.
but hard and very hard are actually hard.
for an example, this guild raid level 4 had me stumped at ~25 million HP out of 300 million.
i only beat it when i switched out a mediocre dps for my +1 Diana.
of course, can't even do later stages because i lack dupes and highly refined gear because i started last month.
with that out of the way, if you take the game slow, it'll take you a long ass while to reach the endgame so rolling who you like is also important.
i did get who i like and brute forced the story with them. Priestess and Sword Maiden.

Zenith is core chain meta and with her swimsuit costume soon, she'll be even better. Due to how this game works, units become more complete with more costumes rather than newer versions replacing older ones.

Guess I'll also explain the other choices.

Homo Lathel was the most meta physical buffer, but since his buffing capabilities have never expanded and likely aren't going to be since male releases are probably never going to happen anymore, he's probably the most skippable meta buffer. Liberta has mostly replaced him.

Diana is the highest property damage buffer in the game and has remained the most meta buffer in the game despite only using a single skill every 8 turns and doing nothing else.

You already have Helena+5

Rubia is a chain unit that saw use early in the game's life, but sees little to no use whatsoever now.

Office Seir is hyper guild raid meta and wants +5. For guild raid, you essentially want the 5 meta buffers/chainers at +5 and then you borrow DPS and Seir is one of those 5.

Ventana is the optimal phys light DPS, but not really feasible for you to build as you need all her costumes built.

Loen is the optimal magic fire DPS, you're more likely to build her in the future as who the fuck does not +5 her bunny version.

Game Club Rafina is +phys damage debuff, but we've gotten more sources of it, so she's become replaceable.

Base Refi is secondary to her meta wedding version, but you cycle her crit damage buff regardless and want it maxed at +4.

Venaka is the optimal magic wind DPS, also needs a lot of building. Front 3x3 however is the most convenient clearing skill in the game.

Levia is an off-fire DPS, more used for her +magic damage debuff.

Seir's merciful in that her unique gear isn't important, you only want her office outfit maxed, and you can usually ignore her other costumes and not even use them. Sometimes her idol costume is used for SP support, but generally, she doesn't need it highly invested. She rarely has trouble surviving Guild Raid even at level 10 so long as she's properly geared.
