Cosmetic grind in Shadowlands is absolutely awful, there's so much shit that requires anima, currency you get from daily content, just upgrading your sanctum is time gated in a sense that upgrades need 24h to "research", very low drop chance on certain transmogs/mounts/pets, achievements that can take weeks to complete because of rotations of world quests, certain drops locked behind certain covenants

If you only want to purchase a few things with anima then it is not THAT much work. You just do the four Covenant questlines, buy what interests you and then leave. But if you want to buy everything, or even to visually complete the zones buy building all of the anima conductors that cause the streams of anima to appear, then that will cost you tens of thousands of anima. Which means logging in every day to spend 45 minutes running around Korthia and Zereth Mortis looting chests and killing rares, which quickly feels like a tedious chore.

Not all Covenant rewards require the same amount of effort. The blue two-headed necrodragon from the Kyrian arena is pretty fast and easy to get but then you have stuff from the other Covenant minigames which could be timegated for weeks.

If you want stuff from the Maw reputations then you have to go to the Maw a lot (where flying is disabled and you have to ride across this huge zone with no flightpaths) and do reputation dailies and weeklies. It takes a long time to get exalted with the four rotating factions, so realistically you are looking at months of work here.

If you want the Mawsworn weapons from Torghast then that will just take a few hours and hoping you get blessed by the RNG, but it is a lot of time spent running through samey grey corridors.

Shadowlands isn't the definitively worst expansion to grind stuff from, though. Try the 1% Rajani droprate mount in BFA where the boss has a 1 hour respawn timer and is only up for 3 and a half days once every 2 weeks.

Remix expansions IF IT IS the same as MoP remix are "seasonal" characters you can play which are confined to said expansion's zones, leveling is much faster, and it's fuck filled with cosmetic rewards.
