Yes, Codex Black is excellent from an authenticity perspective and the art is also great, some pages/panels are jaw dropping. Writing/narrative wise so far it's hard to judge since I've only read Book 1 so far, but i'd say it's "fine" there, if i'm discounting the cool deep cut Mesoamerican symbolism and historical references since I know most of that will go over most people's heads. I haven't watched Avatar the Last Airbender but I imagine the tone is similar: Feels kinda aimed at older kids to younger teens, but delves into darker stuff at times (which as I have heard is even more the case in Book 2)

I don't have time to give a more in depth explanation on it right now, but I highly recommend it. Try to buy it instead of pirating too so it keeps getting made. IIRC, the Barnes and Noble ebook version had the best image quality, if you want to get it digitally rather then physically.

What changed is that the Grands became much more conventional characters as opposed to Solomon (focal point of the game's conflict) and King Hassan and Merlin(wise, reclusive characters who only act when they deem it appropriate).
Orion became a core cast member of Atlantis, and Tezca was one of many players in LB7's story. They get to be more fleshed out and explored as characters, but in the process lose the mystique due to their expansive screentime and can't be portrayed as a borderline Deus Ex Machina without being a detriment to the story (case in point, Romulus).
It comes with the territory of fleshing out the Grand roster. The only way to maintain Part 1's Grand presence would be to repeat Part 1's Grand composition i.e. one Grand is integral to the plot while a second is a little bit more than a cameo.

Herc and Achilles are much later generations of Greeks than Orion. Orion would have already been legendary by the time either of them came around, and older=better in the Nasuverse.

Caenis is a terrible matchup for Orion, because Orion is a son of Poseidon and Caenis was gifted Poseidon's Authorities, which would give Caenis some kind of seniority over him. His blessing from Artemis may have also been nerfed in Atlantis because the Lostbelt's version of her was antagonistic towards him.

FGO's story is way better than what other gachas bring to the table. Although right now you're at the game's lowest story point : Septem.85% of that chapter is "enemies incoming !". Thing is usually those new Fate/Spin-Offs stray off from FSN at some point so you are good enough there. Newer works tend to reference FGO in some shape or form with parallel versions of the cast from there and vice versa, but Strange Fake happens in a FSN-like timeline ala Case Files.
The one that has to pay attention a lot to FGO is, well, Narita (SF's writer) because his ideas for his HGW took too long, so when FGO's roster got expanded, a lot of the developments there were stuff Narita himsefl wanted to explore and this causes him to rewrite the story over and over again and again. For example: one of the servants is related to the Count of Monte Cristo. In FGO, Edmond Dantes is a full blown servant so Narita cried that there was too much of an overlap and he'd have to start preparing excuses.
It's kind of an issue in the opposite side of the spectrum from Fate/Apocrypha; Apocrypha underused its cast and rushed the war. Strange Fake develops its cast so much they are like, 3 days in the war even now. An hour that passes inside Strange Fake is an hour you witness through the narration of multiple servants/masters. If Gilgamesh is doing X, the narration will show Enkidu doing Y and then the Police will do Z, and then it shows Zealot etc.

So, FGO will give you some context, but you aren't in a rush there to understand SF. As long as you did FSN you are set.

Also no idea on Typhon. I rolled her too but have solely used her to farm the 90++ node and she got the event bonus. Looking at her skills she should be pretty powerful even if you discount that Pretenders don't get full damage since she has like a constant 3-turns 80% damage bonus
