Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 games in the week around your release.
AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)
Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."
Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.

Am I supposed to just prototype with pro builder and make the actual level in blender or something? And if so is it more efficient to make building blocks and piece them together? I'm just making simple interiors
>>528564401Thanks, sorry
>>528564735There is sufficient demand for co-op shop simulators to absorb the current volume of slop being produced, and there are currently no indicators of oversupply or reduced demand.
>>528565037The demand is being spread thinner and thinner with every single day. By the time the two maid cafe simulators (both amateur projects so you can't even argue that they are the medium studio projects that will swoop in to meet the quality demand) it will be nearly impossible to stand out or convince people to pay for it while having 300 similar games already in their wishlists
>>528564651raise the FOV when speed increase, use an easing to make it nice
>>528565012probuilder is for creating rudimentary level design that you can use to playtest without needing assets
when you are comfortable with the greybox you can then bring in your assets and slowly fill out and replace things
best practice for level design in unity is loads and loads of assets stacked on top of each other and making as much of it as possible modular so that you can reuse it constantly but in different ways
Vector3.MoveTowards started to randomly stop working and it's making me want to kms
I really feel like a lot of you guys would make better progress if you just like chilled out and got a gf
>>528565591works for me, maybe it's a skill issue
>>528565263I can't tell if you're just a low-vision retard or if you're being insincere. Shop sim players don't really care what games are skinned as. It doesn't matter if it's a maid cafe, a cat cafe, a wrap house, or a gas station with aliens.
>>528565685There's a reason why biteme's two best performing games are still forge industry (niche genre) and unicycle pizza time (unique premise). You don't understand just how drowned the current market is. Sit down underage zoomer
>>528565543How modular are we talking? Should I make individual rooms their own assets and connect them with hallway assets? I have a bunch of static meshes for set dressing but in terms of just empty room blocks I'm wondering what the meta is. Should I make individual floor blocks and tile then? Make one wall section and put it everywhere?
back to devving, drawing some sprites
can't share anything because the character design will get copied though
matter of fact as soon as this character's art is "done" and the actions implemented I will never post progress until launch.

>>528566071Pedos, losers, who make mediocre games, there's a reason none of them will ever find success.
>>528566427Than you, I will be watching your career with great interest
>>528565894pillars, doors, walls, floors, etc can all be modular and reused
then you have props like chairs, candlesticks and whatever which are obviously reusable
if you make tile1 and tile2 floor patterns you could make a hallway with all tile1 or alternating tile 2 and if you're designing a large cathedral for example, you could make a 2x2 pattern and save that as a prefab and use that as the floor
it's honestly all about reusing assets as much as possible; it becomes significantly harder when you're doing outdoor organic level dressing though, but you can still apply a lot of the same work with trees, rocks, cliffs, etc along side terrain
>>528565435hows this change?
>>528566267I couldn't give less of a fuck if any game fails or succeeds. BiteMe is choosing to build a crafty buildy simulator while leveraging their primary strengths: Unity asset store flipping. That sounds like a solid plan to me.

>>528572826Okay, anon. Here's my review after 5 minutes of playing. You need to fix the jumping. Basically, right now, if I let go the direction key mid jump it stops in place, and then if I press it again it starts moving again mid jump. You don't want that. At most you should be able to influence the direction of the fall by just a little bit while falling. But you shouldn't be able to stop dead still in the middle of the jump and completely change directions at a whim. Also, my card went from a chill 37C to 68C before I quit. Probably, because I didn't have frame limiter on, but also it wasn't able to tell me at what FPS your game was running. Maybe limit it to 60. And if you already have and it's causing that much of a spike idk. For reference, modded Skyrim barely makes my fans turn on at 63C.
>>528571110Just use it and do things, when you don't know how to do something type it into YouTube and a tutorial pops up. Duh

>And the FPS isn't limited and if you've noticed the coins spin faster the higher your fps... sorry.I didn't notice the coins, but I assumed it was unlimited, because that about the only thing that non-demanding games can do to heat up my GPU ie running at like 999FPS. For whatever reason my card was just not showing me what the FPS actually was.

Probably a loaded question but at what point does a game being "too hard" go from a failure of the player to a failure of the designer?
I'm a sucker for punishment, I love soloing multiplayer content, I love facing these "filters" and "walls" but it's hard for me to judge whether these things are good or bad imo.
This has probably been asked and meme'd a lot but:
I want to flip a node in Godot and the fucker just wont let me multiply the scale by -1. What the fuck? This is the most basic shit in gamedev ever.
The nigger wants me to have separate animations for left and right. Like, what the actual fuck
Just when I was starting to have fun with this piece of shit
i dont get how im supposed to use ai to create a game
>>528607461If you have to ask this question your game probably sucks
>>528607461It varies from person to person. Understand your target audience. There are lots of tricks to getting people to stay invested in "hard" content. For example, the souls formula makes use of sunk cost to keep players hooked by strongly incentivizing them to run back immediately after dying, rather than just giving up and quitting.
>>528607598Huh? What do you mean flip a node? Also yes you typically have animations for all directions lazy ass.
>>528607461>I love soloing multiplayer contentSee in that case you are already doing what is unintended, so usually such stuff should not be the _intended_ difficulty in a game.
From my observation, games needa be PISS EASY except if they come up with some memeable angle at difficulty, which would be either DS "learn le dodge rolls" or roguelite "stack le metaprogression" the original Roguelike - "learn the proper strategies (like fighting in hallways) to preserve more and more resources in the early game to get deeper and deeper into the dungeon" - seems too big of a filter generally
>>528546567 (OP)black godette kinda slaps ngl
>>528607807I want everything in a node to be reversed position and rotation wise.
In Unity, in Unreal, in pretty much any fucking engine, I can do that by multiplying the scale by -1, and that will do it. It will reverse all of its child's objects.
I made an animation of an object rotating to the right, now I want it to play to the left, should be simple but ooooh no I have to make another animation and add more lines of code with something that should be a simple multiplication
Like, this is total ass
>>528607965I mean I am writing this as somebody who is also a fan of huge difficulty and struggling with making game accessible enough. I think the best bet, without a meme angle, for stringing along shitters while also catering to difficulty enjoyers is to offer bonus stuff on the side, not even declaring it as objective really, just having it available for explorative types that always wanna run ahead of the easy stuff the game asks them to do.
>>528608167I don't see your issue, scale -1, 1 is a flip.

>>528609701That's not what that means. It means that if you try to set just one scale axis negative, it'll still apply it, but because of the way the data is saved, you'll read it back as both scale axis negative and a rotation, which is mathematically equivalent.

Day 24 on a Thread for Project C-Con โ "Tedious, not hard" Edition
Journal logs are being posted into /agdg/ daily.
I of-course had the same goal, like just finish the animation basics tutorial. I got distracted though and just decided to mess around on my own with keyframes, it got somewhere at first because I had a really good animation, but afterwards I sort-of lost the idea of how they work, because now my new keyframes seem to be changing the old ones, and I don't quite understand how to save keyframes and make sure they don't affect the new ones, or how like animation pausing works/making it look natural. I think I might have an eye for it, just fighting blender binds honestly. It isn't really hard like some other things, it's just sort-of tedious. I think programming is harder than animating from a surface level take.
What is Project C-Con?

>>528575791>>528576332Haha yeah that dumbass, imagine having 6 billion dollars in your bank account, couldn't be me!
>>528611945Anon, Notch sold Minecraft 11 years ago for $2.5 billion. Whatever money Notch has in his bank account is definitely far from that number at this point.
games are...le bad. let's fix that
>my ideaguy friend gave up talking about making games
well, gg for him.

Posting grifters should be a bannable offense.
>>528612157It's so fucking over.
>>528612401I only do it because posters here are really good at bashing them

>>528611732>fighting gameHow many indie fighting games there are?

>>528596068I think the lack of loops on her torso is going to be a problem when it comes time to animate. You won't be able to bend her back. Adding a couple loops around her waist will allow you to shape her figure better, and animate more flexibly.
>>528553383Save the indie title for real indie games like Disco Elysium and Baldur's Gate 3.
I came up with decent joke dialogue but the audience for it absolutely tiny, should I pull the trigger?
Tried making a Twitter account and posting my pixel art on it, only for it to get 2 views and 1 to 2 likes, been a week and I have around 2 followers, how the fuck does this shit work?
I need help finalizing the draft for my game.
I am working on stuff for it but I need to find a concrete direction to go in
>>528614476You don't have to tell me twice! But during the stone age...
>>528609701>>528609909Alright fag. I stopped working and spent 5 minutes vibe coding this for your dumbass. (I'm an artist on my project and not the lead programmer).
>>528614561you need to interact with people to build up a following, it takes a bit of time, but they'll support you

>>5286149841 million germs
>>528614561Most people start slow in the art sphere. It will take time to accumulate eyes on your art. It helps to post in multiple places. Especially spots where artists hang out. Because they might give you some pity attention.
try posting your art on pixeljoint, deviantart, and newgrounds.
what if we were all really nice to each other
like a big family
>>528609537>BOKUBE still being made on a less than 8k kickstarter >Hytale quits after MILLIONS in funding from crowds and riot/league of legends of all publishers and gives up.What the fuck... Were they just a shitty amateur's dev that conned even riot and just wasted millions for a decade pretending to know what they are doing? Im so confused.
>>528615198most of it is just banter. we love each other.
>>528615395true
i hate you all but not really
has anyone here ever been stuck on a problem for an entire month? I'm feeling pretty sad right now.
>>528611945Notch didn't fuck up by taking the money his only mistake was thinking he would suddenly fit in with the rich Hollywood crowd when he's not that guy. He's only just now getting back into the things he cared about.
When George Lucas sold Star Wars he took that money and dedicated his life to making small movies for his friends and family to enjoy so he could continue to do what he loves without the pressure of critics and the media. That's what I'd want to do if my game made billions.
>>528615503I have "put off" problems for years since I knew I didnโt have a good approach. Then when I had a good approach it still took 1 month to fully implement. Donโt know if that counts.
>>528614747>>528614808>>528615187Thanks for the info, bless your little dev hearts
>>528615503i tried making a super simple mobile game as a quick little cash grab project but couldn't comprehend the simplicity of the "genre"/mobile market so i spent almost two months experimenting with different approaches before ultimately dropping it and moving on to a more conventional third-person PC game
i just couldn't accept that by mobile standards my game was "done" in the state it was in
it was a simple incremental clicker/idle game
>>528615771I'm no dev. I just check this thread periodically for art related posts.
>>528616102He's right, you know
>>528615232Thats what I'm saying. Over the years iv seen so many kickstarters make hundreds of thousands or even millions and give up like its impossible to finish their game. So retarded.
>>528615198Families don't have to be nice to each other. You're conflating niceness with kindness. Close families will have plenty of trashtalk, banter, and brutally honest fights. You can only truly argue with those close to you.
I'm switching to 4.4.3 (blender)
>>528616102just spend 3 years making friends on discord and twitter if you want people to support your game lol
Once again an idiot using godot gets corrected and disappears.
>>528616740what's wrong with godot? i only use unity
>>528616740open source tools are killing my game
UOOOHHH damn godaughter. needs correction
>>528616903There's nothing wrong with godot, it's the user. They come in bitching about godot saying it can't do something then we prove them wrong and they disappear. Happens like every other day.
>>528617184The problem with Godot is too low of a barrier to entry. Any retarded turdie can have it downloaded and running on a $30 craptop or even cellphone in less than a minute.
>>528616740We're still here.
>>528617052nice reddit gachatroon "meme" that has nothing to do with amateur gamedev lol!! :)
its even funnier to read the 536536659696969369th time haha, here is your posted it again award :)
>>528617417do the hardest thing
>>528617349Outside of hardware, Unity seems easier to get into, especially with all the official and non-official tutorials.
Does Godot even have tutorials on their site?
>>528614808>BlueskyItโs dying and impossible for artist to build up followers
>>528617418Omg I've never gotten so many updoots. Thanks for the reddit gold, kind sir!
>>528551150noooooo
but my ... but my get rich quick youtubers told me how to run games like a business ...
asset packs, sloppa, indians off of fiverrr to do touch-ups
my game won't be good but I will have made it in 3 months so I can start my next 3 month game! hmmm, next time I will use synty, look at all the big games made using synty and nobody mindsif someone made a game about digging a hole I can do it too!
>>528617349Yeah but these people always mention other programs meaning they didn't start with godot.
>>528617523I don't see unity as easier and I've used both
>>528617523Godot's official tutorials don't baby you and assume you know how to program, like any other non-gamedev software framework.
>>528617639In many ways, Unity is better for beginners to intermediates. Godot can be far too flexible. Instead of giving you a single solution to any given problem, it gives the user 3-5 different ways to solve each problem and assumes the user is smart enough to figure out which one is best for their use case (they aren't).
>>528616181well good families will have nice times with each other
if its all fighting like it is here that's a shitty family or everyone is just enemies, seems more like the latter
>>528618010Which is a skill issue not an engine issue. More options is better.
this place is so disheartening I thought muh game was so cool then I join here and get smacked with reality now im tempted to make a cute cat selling stuff on island simulator and sell it to women
